400 watts is plenty for a hall. $400 a speaker is plenty below what you should be paying for a 400watt speaker

:stroke: I'm not sure if big ones will be loud enough - I reckon get really big ones. Of course it's no guarantee ppl will dance tho

Did u realize You'll also need an amp??, so ull need a bit more than $800
why not charge your mates a hire fee and then youll get something extra to spend on them??

The SK are the best in this lower price range imo and a pair of 10" powered soundking Max200a would cost u $790, but ull need at least the 12" to do a small hall function/backyard and they cos about $990 pair.. then when you save more you can add a sub

Oh and buy stands to help spread the sound futhur

How long is a piece of string?

How big is the hall?

I would suggest going into a store and having a listen. Try before you buy.

soundking are better and cost about $550... yes they do a small hall, if you raise the tweeter to head height, go to a shop and listen to them

if youve got $700.. borrow the extra 300 and pay it back or get finance

what size is the hall, how many people are you playing to, and what style of music are you playing? Most of the speakers mentioned are great mid - high for approx 100 people, and will do you for your house. The B215a's will do if your music does not rely heavily on bass and its a smallish party.

You can get earbud headphones for $3 a pair and double adaptors for about $2. Buy 100 of each, and get everyone to stand really close to your line out socket.

The other bonus of this approach is that if anyone hates your music they can plug their earbuds into their iPod.

Make your own if you wanna stay in that budget. I would suggest you look at http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/ and build the OTop12's and add a sub later. They will cost you maybe 300 each and really are quite high quality and not that difficult to build at all..
