when did it launch?? it was very slow for me last night, not sure if it was the new version though, nothing seemed to have changed...

edit: just had a look and it definitely hadn't launched when I was on there last night. shame I can't load it as my shitty work computer doesn't have flash 10.

Mine comes up with 100% complete & intializing keeps twitching

The old site was working fine this morning.

You'd think they'd test the shit out before going live

^^ likewise. On Beatport customer service, it says the next step would be to go to the Macromedia site and clear another cache from there.... can't be assed.

Bassbunker
22-Jan-09, 09:35pm
wahoo...cheers for the tip on emptying cache.
It was buggy for me on safari but emptied cache and away you go!!!!!

FUCK YES! Thank you Beatport. Hold bin is what I've been wanting for ages, since I'm such a pov cunt and occasionally just want one tune that I'm dying to hear.

Tried it out on Mac (which is the system I download to) and it worked first go using Safari. Looks great, but... sooooooooooooo srrrroooooowwwwwww....

Improvement of sound quality is tops though. I think the artwork is embedded now as well.

love it, but there is alittle glitch with the player. hope fully they will work it out

Blinky-Live-
23-Jan-09, 09:15am
I'm surprised they launched with it this buggy, you'd think they would have done some pretty extensive UAT on it given the hype they put into marketing the launch and re-branding

I'm in now and I like it, I can't log in tho, i'm listening to some of the samples and a bit disappointed they didn't improve the audio quality

Also - i was convinced they were going to start displaying more release info like bpm and key but alas :(

Overall tho i like it.

quantum8
23-Jan-09, 09:20am
^ erm...do you want it to beatmatch an entire set for you too?

SlicyDicer
23-Jan-09, 09:26am

^ erm...do you want it to beatmatch an entire set for you too?

Yeah, that's exactly it, how did you know? i wanna buy only music that's in Am and 128BPM

Thanks

I sell music on Beatport and it's something that I'd really like to be able to display for my customers and it's been a long standing request for a lot of people.

fair enough i guess.

sounds like the customers are getting lazy if they dont wanna spend the 2 seconds to hear what speed the track is

Blinky-Live-
23-Jan-09, 10:09am
haha, yeah, coudl be although it can be handy when you're putting togethere a set and you anything in your collection to bridge a gap in your set. being able to find a tune that will fit and also know it's going to mix well is going to mean you're money is well spent rather than leaving it to chance. ESP with the exchange rates at the moment! lol :)

EDIT: ^^^Refering to the key here not the BPM

GrEnNo
23-Jan-09, 10:16am
why do u want to know the speed, use your ears........its not that hard. U sound like a lazy DJ

Blinky-Live-
23-Jan-09, 12:03pm
I was talking about the Key, not the BPM

youngman
23-Jan-09, 01:10pm
It would be great if tracks came with the key listed. It does not take me that long to key tunes myself, but it would remove a step of the process.

I still can't get on to the damn thing.

Anyways off to search for more tunes

Using Safari and Firefox on my Mac - cleared all caches and it made no difference...

IE at work but our system locks everything down so no surprise I can't see it here.

The thread title is incorrect. This latest version is 4.0, not 3.0.

Semantics aside, the player was extremely buggy during the first 24 hours of the new version going live. Whatever the problem was seems to now be resolved for me.

Edit: OS X 10.4.11, Firefox 3.0.5, cleared cache, no Flash or other software updates, seemed to just start working properly by itself eventually. I'd say their tech team are working overtime.

Al_Mac
24-Jan-09, 01:08am

got some new tunes and im happy now!!

went over quota at home so checked it out at the radio station last night on our linux computer with firefox, smooth as. Loving the new site but as said most of the changes are cosmetic and were very over hyped considering what they actually do.

I was quietly hoping for BPM filtering to make an appearance as well, I don't think its an unreasonable request at all in this day and age.

Some genres have a wide range of BPM's within them, anywhere upto 10 BPM and it would be nice to remove tracks that are in a range I'm just never going to play or as you said when your looking for a track to fill a particular spot in a set.

For instance it would also make it much easier to find some of the progressive gems hidden in the Trance genre.

Introducing Keys will probably never happen as they are somewhat subjective and difficult to evaluate, it would cause too much trouble I think. Mixed in Key does a great job anyway.

PS. Some nice additions feature wise but its buggy as hell and slower than the older version so I give it about 2/10 until they sort it out.

I love the new site...few bugs. Hopefully they are getting fixed up. I tried to buy a release with like 58 tracks in it, and because of a territory restriction I couldn't and it filled up the entire screen with the tracks that I couldnt buy. The close button wasn't visible due to their size of the flash screen. So then the tab & space keys were being hit, eventually I got out of that screen.

DaBro

territory restriction.

Is there anything it can't fck up?

synick
28-Jan-09, 11:51am
ARGH!! I know...and it was a good release too, 58 tracks for $24.99

Cream Future Trance the release is called...got some really nice tracks in it.

28-Jan-09, 12:26pm
it is also really annoying that the "add to playlist" button is not available from some charts and artist homepages.

I've found the player to be quite buggy overall...

synick
28-Jan-09, 12:47pm
Yeah same, It starts playing before it loads the entire track to it will loop over the same 2 secs of music until it loads the rest. I think it is really really suited towards ADSL2+ speeds.

synick
28-Jan-09, 12:50pm
Oh, I was really hoping to find some buy a million tracks for free bug somewhere...no luck yet though :(

I find it to be bloated now, talk about interface overload, I can barely see through all the fucking buttons. Other than that it runs like shit on the slowish computers I use for browsing. Couple of good new features, but really ones that bring it into line with other sites. Fact remains though that it is the most complete shopping experience, would be good to see other sites come up to date.

i think i preferred the old beatport. ive got a fukn quick laptop, and cable that gets me at least genuine 12mbps and its still chuggy and slow. hopefully they iron out the bugs and get it running quicker.

the reason i liked beatport was becuase it was quick, easy to navigate, & you can discover so much music just from linking from artist to labels, to other artists, to other labels and so on...

Yep the new features have comes at a real cost to performance.

They need to keep their eye on what counts most which is how quick you can sample and find tunes.

Still I'm sure they will tidy up the code over time, I haven't checked back for a while so that may have already happened.

The playlist feature rocks. I must admit, it is pure genius, especially for people like me who shop whilst at work and want to avoid having the green flash lit up all over the monitor with people walking past all day!
