ive been working in programs like logic for the last few years on breaks/house/whatever i was listening to at the time, and after seeing a few people play live (or pretend to), i was wondering what approach you all use. do you use some kind of live arranging setup like an MC-505 chocked up with your programs, or use some old analog kit with realtime sequencing, or blag your way out of it by "playing" a few dat machines?
dance music is the only real genre that has to invent ways of playing live, unlike most kinds of music where its kinda impossible not to. kind of like our pennance for not having to spend years practicing our instruments before we sound anything more than crap XD

Laptop 1 - preset drum patterns to play on the fly
Laptop 2 - samples, stabs, loops, synths to play by preset or midi
Synth - use midi output to control laptops and also use its own internal sounds with guitar pedal effects...
mix it all together and bake for 2 hours...

rm1x (sequencer) controlling the clock on a korg es-1 (sampling drum machine) and going thru to an a4000 (sampler)
these run thru an allen and heath mixing board along with efx and tweaky stuff. and all gets compressed on the master inserts.
this setup gives me heaps of room to improvise on the fly and in some cases really fuck with tracks or cut ones that arent working out of a set.
might post a pic up when i get round to it.

i favour a maxxed out MPC2000XL as the center time peice and main sampler. in superfluid we also use:
2 X the latest Toshiba Satellite laptops running Ableton Live with OMNI audio cards (breakout boxes)
2 x Pioneer CDJ1000 cd scratchers and pioner cdj6000 mixer
1 X Mackie 1402 VLZ PRO master mixer
Headline Conga and SM58 mic
Supernova2 rackmount synth or its little bro the K-Station
thats the main setup
can vary depending on size of the gig... sometimes include a 3rd laptop running ArKaos which is a VJ program. or you may see Kaoss pad, Airfx, XP30, MS2000, whatever.
gimme my MPC and conga any day though. even in my other bands i keep those two units with me on stage.
soon adding a Roland SPD20 midi percussion unit, to trigger samples off the MPC (cause the onboard SPD20 ones suck... like half of the sounds are cheesey reverbed FX sounds!!!)
ps, you could feel happy just using an old MMT8 sequencer and some old S2000 sampler (been there, done that)
use whatever works... thats always been my motto
