ok, need some help choosing!

Im looking to get into the dj mix ;) Im after something i can use to mix parties and i need something reliable but on a budget. I dont really wanna pay $500 for a unit. :nooo:

Which is better compared?

Pioneer CDJ100's
Stanton C313's
or a cheap little pair of CDT525 GEMSOUND's

I want to be able to beatmatch so i need bpm ;)

Don't want to pay $500 for a unit? Try paying $2g each and $2.5g for a mixer.

And you don't need the bpm to beachmatch. You do it by ear not by sight.


CDJ100's are a nice simple unit and going fairly cheap at the moment. I had stanton C303's when I first started and they weren't bad for learning on but one of them kept fucking up. Can't really say too much about gemsound.

I'd probably go CDJ100's (I think they are about the $200each mar) and a cheap mixer from that list.

You'll really struggle on that budget. You need two CD decks, a mixer, headphones, and then an amp and speakers to plug into.

Old style dual CD players, not the best quality, but a reasonably solid setup. Then you still need headphones and some sort of amplification.

Forget BPM counters. They'll teach you to be a shit DJ from day one, and on cheap gear they only give you a ballpark anyway. If you use them as a crutch, one day you'll find yourself in a situation without them, and you'll mix like a retard on roey, and all the hot bitches will laugh at you. Mix with your ears.

i'd suggest bourbon + coke, or vodka + soda + lime if you want to get tricky. goes well at parties and can be had for much less than $500

Someone in another thread posted about some new stanton dual cd player, which for the total unit was under $200 i think.
That would be a cheap and easy way to get into it, and then in 6 months-1 year you decide you love it and want to upgrade get something of better quality, more features etc

Dual units are cool. They sure teach you how to mix properly.

Cheap Stanton tabletop players are not cool. They teach you not to touch the table or walk heavily, for fear of them jumping.

Its less than $200... you cant go wrong.....Shit, that's pretty fkn cheap. :lol: They used to be $600 or something. You've got the right approach, too. Get it, thrash it for a couple of months, then (this is my addition) sell it for $300. :P I'm going to go ahead and assume that Stanton have improved their skip protection.

No one's going to say "hey, that looks great" to either of these things, because they're not. If you're in this for the long haul, you'll eventually have to cough up $2k+ for real gear. In the meantime, there's no point going half way with "slightly better" Stanton gear for $900 (in my opinion).

I say go for it. And since you're saving so much cash, do the right thing with headphones and spend 2 to 3 hundred. Most of the cool kids get Sennheiser HD25 (not the SP model), I also like Technics RPDJ1200.

how serious are you... cdj200s can be had for around 800-900 for two these days. plus 300-500 for a second hand/newbie mixer and 100 for headphones. just some ideas for another approach. Just saying, but 200 for that setup is quite reasonable.

If you have the time to save etc. and put together a kit i'd go for whats in my post... if not and you REALLY want something asap then get that cheaper set.
