View Full Version : Thoughts - Behringer DDM4000 Digital DJ Mixer
Hey all
I'm on the hunt for a median priced mixer that i can cart around to mates places and for house parties and came across said mixer.
For the money I believe it has many features and the plus is I can hook it up to a lappy and control "Live" through the mixer as well as having a pair of cdj's connected.
Here is a linky with a vid, which mind you is a f'ing horrible run down of it's specs if i do say so myself.

Has anyone had any dealings with this mixer? Any thoughts would be much appreciated as I was hoping to purchase this, or something similar this weekend.
Thanks
Phil.
I'm a goose.
Should have searched first.
ITM thoughts = Behringer sucks cawk.

Budget DJ's end up being expensive dj's when they have to replace their shit because it broke. Do it right, do it once. You'll thank yourself for it in no time!

I have owned one for around 9 months so far and have had no issues what so ever. My previous mixer was a djm800 and I can say that the features are largely the same just on a different layout.
Build quality is no where near as good as the pioneer, and would not advise using it for gigs ie. you'd want something much more reliable and solid.
With all the negatives out of the way, you have a 4 channel mixer with all the bells and whistles, as well as a midi controller for traktor/ virtual dj etc etc etc for less than $600. If its sitting at home most of the time and your taking it to mate's houses every once in a while, my advice is go for it! There really isn't much this mixer can't do, that mixers 4 times the price can do :)
If its for paid gigs i would invest in something better.... as a general rule, you get what you pay for

Ive hated behringer ever since my mate cut his finger giving me a scratch demo on my first mixer which was a djx700...
Those fader pressings are damn sharp!

Plus there's plenty more out there that's quite a lot better. You don't need that many channels.
Ive had the ddm for 6 months and some times I like it and other times its so annoying. At the time I got it for fx play like the 800 but the filters are so dodgy and weak and the bit crusher should be avoided lol. But I have almost the grand and a half saved at the expense of sometimes getting annoyed.
I got one, and I havn't had any issues with it.
I bought mine based on the fact that, I could not find any bad reviews from people who actually have one.
This was also my initiation to midi, and I'm happy with it.
For $500, I'm happy with it. I don't see the point in having a hugely expensive mixer for home use.
This is one unit that Behringer got right.

it's only been out a year and people get paid to write reviews.

I meant forum reviews, or just posts from people who own one.
how many of those people have owned multiple and high end mixers?
a mixer with 2 channels and less features it always going to be better quality than something with more components and more processing requirements.
having sharp clear sound increases your skills as a DJ by a significant proportion.

The equipment doesn't make the DJ.
I learnt on belt drive peices of shit, and a tandy mixer, and taught myself everything.
I achieved club residency within 8 months of starting.
When I was exposed to better equipment, just made life much easier. Never ever owned cdjs' and never had a problem using them in clubs.
It comes down to your ability, not the equipment.
Soccer boots don't make the soccer player.
Snooker cues don't make the player.
It comes down to talent & ability, and thats the bottom line.

i learnt on rubbish gear as well.
but it didn't sound like arse and have 80% of the value in the gimmicks which sound like shit.
this argument has been had so many times i don't care to be drawn into it again.
i will go for a quality SOUNDING mixer every day over a unit that has effects, midi, and all the other rubbish associated with it. the two mixers i own at the moment... urei 1603 - simple layout, no effects 4 channel analogue mixer. Vestax PMC37PRO - analogue filter, 3 channel 4 input matrix mixer, no midi no other effects than the filter.
the two properties those mixer share, fantastic sound quality.
and where the hell did i say expensive gear in any event, i clearly said sharp clear sounding increases your skills.... IE YOU CAN ACTUALLY HEAR THE DETAIL IN THE MUSIC.
learn to read before shooting from the hip.

I've had one for a couple of months and have had no real problems. The sampler is a bit akward and I generally don't like the feel of the buttons, but other than that it does what it should.
