I was halfway through recording a mixtape today at home and serato crashed on me =s. My screen went that greyish blue colour like when it starts up serato and wouldnt change but still played the track which was weird. Which made me wonder what would I do if this happened to me during a live set?

Anyone have any problems?

I'v had the betas crash on me a couple of times. But that is what i expect from a beta

Other wise I'v had the screen freeze on me while music is still playing a few times.

Really its one of the most stable programs I have ever ran

Yea ive been using it for awhile now and this is the first time ive had a problem. Still might start taking some vinyl or cds aswell with me now as a backup depending what im playing on

^hmmm maybe try disabling your screen saver while running serato see if that fixes it. The computer may have tried to start up the screen saver and serato is blocking it causing it to shit itself

If i leave my macbook on for a while like a day or so sometimes the sound that comes out is very distorted but i just did the old turn off then on again and it was fine. The best place to see if your doing anything wrong is the serato website nine times out of ten another person has had the same problem.

keep rocking

i was running a beta and it crashed at a gig, best thing is to have a cd there and just pull an rca out of serato box slam it into mixer change cd's as soon as music starts 30 seconds later every1 will have forgotten, sucks when it happened to me once though

can you use the audio through without the laptop running?

can you use the audio through without the laptop running?

Yes but a lot of DJs don't bother wiring up the through connection. As long as your laptop is on and the USB is plugged in the through will work.

I use control vinyl for my serato so I always have through wired up for me records :ahoy:

so, does the through function work with or WITHOUT the laptop running? :stroke:

1.8.2 had a few bugs that needed to be fixed. There is a shit load of threads on that on their site.

Best thing to do is turn off everything not needed while djing, i.e. MSN, screen savers anything to do with ITUNES ( don't worry, your serato will still recognise the library) etc.

or better still, get a machine totally devoted to your audio applications.
Then issues re viruses ect will never bother you ever again.

And upgrade your ram, serato recomends a minimum 1gig to run, but if you can afford more, get more.

what are your laptop stats?

Processor
Ram
Memory
OS
other programs installed (big ones not all but like other dj/production programs and video or photographic)

1.9 runs sweets as did the version before hand, have been using 1.9 since it went official about 2-3 weeks ago.....i adv never runnin a beta version n im sure everyone knows why!.....the problem may lie in the questions i asked before hand.

i agree with jabbajaws............i run a macbook pro 10.4.11 intel duo with 4G ram 280gigHD and stil have ableton live7 pro tools 8 photoshop and a bunch of other apps on it runnin fine never crashed....

however if ur runnin a laptop pc with minumum ram and u gota bunch of other apps on it then yea its gonna mess up!!

Serato uses a more ram the more u run it, if it starts to lock up go to the reveiw tab and hit clear.

that wouldnt be the reason why as he cache would need to build up for a few months as in like 6-8 before it would make any kinda of difference...if any at all......

I'd always take dozen 12"s with me just in case serato crashed mid set so I can through on a tune quick smart whilst I sort out the puter. I usually pick some records that would be a mid point to the type of set I would be playing that night. Should I need to, could play those records as a solid 45 minute set should the puter not start again. There is usually someone keen to get a few more minutes in their set should you not be able to play out your allocated time. If you can mix on CDJ's even better because you can just burn a couple of compilation disks that would do the same thing.

Cheers,

when recording using serato, simply clicking on record light. what sound does it record ? does it record you queueing up the tracks etc or does it record what is being produced by your external mixer ?

new SL3 has an extra input u feed from ur mixer into the sound card from your mixers rec out or booth out. so its your live mix.

SSL has never crashed on me yet.. but, i have had windows crash on me while using SSL :) (i was doing some other stuff to make it crash, not just using SSL)

however I do have one trusty back up vinyl i take out with me when i play in case things go wrong no matter what type of set i'm playing. it's the ghostbusters theme song.

with the SL1, pressing the record button will only record either channel 1, channel 2, or the mic input - depending on what input you set. it is not designed to record the output of the mix, which is pretty crap. it wouldnt be hard for them to add an internal recorder like traktor.

to record your mix in serato, you would have to use the record out on your mixer, plugged into an mp3 player/recording device, or looped back into your laptop and use a program like audacity.

I'm running a dinosaur of a lappy.
Dell Insperon. 8500.

I ramped up the memory to 2 gig.
No wireless apps, I cut down everything so I only use it for Audio.
I'm running Ableton live 7, Audacity, Serato, Itunes, Real Player 10 and one or two idle progs. Nothing much.

Biggest problem I found, especially in a club, is that my lappy gets hot.
When it does, shit hits the fan.

I invested in a cooling pad for $50 with a USB hub soI can connect a wireless mouse and plug in and power my IRiver to record.

Best move I made.

Keeping your machine cool can unsure that it doesn't crap out, and thus, crash while mixing.

remember, Audio Progs use a huge load of processing power and memory.

open up your latop and blow some compressed air from a can around fans, may fix your overheating problems

i should do that since I've dragged the bastard through shit and back in China, HK and Oz.
Might be a little clogged up.

with the SL1, pressing the record button will only record either channel 1, channel 2, or the mic input.

It was designed to be a live interface to scratch on the fly.
Beatbox, rap, lyrics etc.

not as a live recorder.

A: get yourself a digital recorder (E.G. Iriver etc)
B: loop one of the master outs back into your lappy bia soundcard.
Only problem with B is that running multiple Audio Apps on a lappy can use up your memory and cause a latency with some progs.

I can't say it's crashed on me but i reckon its come pretty close, its slowed down heaps....but this could be due to my sh!tty laptop and not the program because on my home pc its rock solid :stroke:
