View Full Version : Pioneer Headphones on Ebay, Real or Fake?

Hey guys I was hoping you would be able to help me out.
I have been browsing on ebay for some headphones and there are vast majority of pioneer HDJ 1000's selling brand new for under $100!:what:
Are these a genuine Pioneer product or a fake?
They are mostly being sold from international sellers in China but also from Australia people selling them brand new as a one off transaction. all of the sellers have 100% and know one has made a negative comment about.
If they are a genuine Pioneer product why are they selling them so cheap when the retail price for these is $250+??:stroke:

Got my Technics 1200 headphones (the black ones, whichever model that is) for $179 on ebay, been working for 2 years perfectly.
Just make sure the photo looks legit, there ARE ripoffs on ebay, but they are VERY obvious.
Reason so cheap >> ebay has no overheads (or minimal, dont have to pay rent etc etc) so they can sell them much cheaper and still get a profit.
if the price is too good to be true, generally it is.

If they are genuine, they sound good and are comfortable, but they are weak as shit and forget studio monitoring with them, the bottom end is accentuated. I bought a set few years back and they were treated nicely, but they broke on both sides, just under the first folding joint, ive read similar complaints online.
I wouldnt buy them again. The HDJ-2000's though look the goods, and they have a different design of holding the cups which looks alot stronger.

^ rule of thumb.
even if theyre fake, theyre probably better quality than the pioneer ones anyway.

most likely fake if aussies are selling them too. aussie sellers selling WAAAAY below rrp is a big sign that theyve bought some fake products to try to make a quick buck.
cheap shit from china is more believable because its made over there, for an aussie to import a genuine product and then sell at much less than retail whilst still making a profit is near impossible.

ah. right, my bad.. as a rule i never buy anything made by pioneer.
pioneer is japanese..
i think the only pioneer building in japan would be their head office :P
the headphones might not be made in china, but china was just an example, pretty much all consumer electronics are made in asia so you can often get a cheap product if you buy it from there.

Yer, if there fake though they are doing a bloody good job to make em look real. They are in there original pioneer box an unopened.

If they are bothering to make fake headphones - do you think they would skimp out on making fake packaging to make them look legit?
You never know so the only way to find out is to go for it but ultimately HDJ-1000's (imo) are one of the shittest headphones on the market and that's beyond their mediocre sound quality. So I'd look elsewhere, even if you are only spending $100

HDJ 1000's are possibly the worst dj headphones on the market imo.
I would rather stab myself in the eye with a blunt HB pencil thanks.

wouldnt surprise me.
pioneer is going pretty badly with the recession.
they have released the new HDJ2000's and i'd imagine 1000's are now old stock not being made anymore.
it could very well be people upgrading to 2000's and selling their 1000's.

whats with people saynig they have mediocre sound quality.
they are great.
i have krk rokit 6's and a krk rp10s sub.
and listening through teh speakers and comparing it to the headphones is pretty much on par or headphones better.
and everybody knows krk have great sound quality.
i think its just people who prefer the hd25's whinge and think hdj1000s are terrible when really, they have no idea.

I'll put my hand up and say im not a fan of HD25, Nice sound but too light and small for me.

are your speakers set up properly?
hate the hd 25s. hate the hdj 1000s also though..
for mixing, technics headphones are where it's at imo. the sennheiser hd 280s are a good mid point between the 25s and the hdj 1000s and they still sounds sick, and cover your ears properly, and are very comfortable.
my opinion.

I'm afraid your the one who has no idea fella.
It's the build quality most of us hate. And do you know why? Because it's terrible.
Of the FIVE pairs my circle of friends have owned every single one of them has broken in half in less than a year. It's a well documented fault. Look it up if you like.
Not sure about you but my mum isn't purchasing me my gear. So if i'm paying that much for headphones i want them to last.

Definatly more than a grand, i think i paid $250 and they were on special. I'll never buy pioneer headphones again, infact i dont think i'll ever pay that much for headphones ever again.

i've put in bold everything you need to know. they're like 190 from djwarehouse... there are way better headphones you could get if you were happy to pay just a wee bit more.

hahaha, fair call. i've never owned them, never heard them, but have heard nothing but bad things. i just had a look at storedj for you though..
http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=374
from personal experience, i can say those headphones sound fucking sick and are mad comfortable.. go try them on somewhere before you buy (my biggest mistake ever was buying expensive headphones without trying them on first), but that right there is the best i could see in your price range. don't let yourself think that means they're cheap and crap.. they're fucking great.
Yer, if there fake though they are doing a bloody good job to make em look real. They are in there original pioneer box an unopened.
mate, copying the box is the easiest part of counterfeiting

you might be new to ebay, because the only ones on there for <$100 are auctions that aren't over so you cant say they will sell for under <$100.
the cheapest i could find including post was 60 euro which is about $110, the rest are minimum $160 for buy it now sales.
of those, id probably buy them from someone selling other pioneer equipment like cdj's that arent able to be counterfeited, so you can assume they a genuine supply of pioneer gear.

a) the quality is good, i dont know what ur referring too. (and yes, i am fussy with sound)
b) your friends must be retarded, i've had mine for 2 1/2 years.
c) ive bought all my gear with my own money and yes i have a better setup then you. dont go on with this mum bullshit.
pioneer is japanese..
they haven't made anything in Japan for a long time.

lol fire up.
nah i assuming they made it cheaper, wasnt having a dig at you but moreso the seller.
i can understand them possibly being cheap
but at 70 bucks i wouldnt.
ACTUALLY tbh, i got some creative in-ear earplugs from ebay, some hong kong store for $3.00
they didnt come in proper packaging so could have very well been fakes HOWEVER, they were replacing my old pair (ruined from water damage) of the exact same ones (which were def real) and they sounded exactly the same.
so 3 bucks wasnt bad.
they could very well be worth their 70 bucks.

Its the same with Sony Hedphones on Ebay, what seels for $300 in the shops you can apparently get for $30 on ebay.

especially the mdr 700s. the rotating joint on those things has been a weak point for years, but they've never fixed it.

They're fake, i bid on a pair a while ago and won, but in the meantime i did some research online and found an article comparing reals and fakes and looking closer at the photo's i noticed these were definately fakes so i emailed the guy and said i wouldnt be completing the transaction. nothing more was said and i didnt get any negative feed back.
go get some quality product from a reputable dealer.
I wouldnt buy them again. The HDJ-2000's though look the goods, and they have a different design of holding the cups which looks alot stronger.
Fila and Matt Darey were using them at Trance Energy, I wonder if the release of them's why they HDJ1000's have dropped in price.

a) No it's not :P
b) I've gone through two pairs, the first pair had a dodgy chord replaced under warranty, both Pioneer support and the authorised service centre I took them to were quite rude whenever I contacted them about it... I feel sorry for anyone who's had to deal with their support... That pair eventually fell to bits... Second pair on ebay fell to bits after a year or so... They might be alright at home, but they fall to bits pretty quick after being thrown around in smokey night clubs... I learnt my lesson and bought a pair of HD25's, I've thrown them hard at the ground in frustration and they've held up... best investment ever :thumb:
c) My mum went halves with me in my Tascam VLX5's for Xmas a couple of years ago so I can't comment... Other than that I'm clear though :thumb:

So the bottom line i am hearing from most people is the reason the 1000's are so cheap is basically cause that's all there worth?
What do the 2000's retail for?

i think i saw the 2000's for 350 now.
tbh, i think whoever's hdj1000's break, they treat them like shit.
look after your gear ffs.
as i've said, 2 1/2 years and theyre fine.
i'm actually considering getting some of the new bose headphones i tested out @ dick smith the other day
fucking clear as. they have both over the ear cans and normal headphones, theyre sound isolation is also amazing

Not that relevant, the same could be said for just about any consumer product out there. Regardless of what it cost sony to make them, id still rather buy the real thing. Love the 700s, best cans for long extended sets IMO
