A couple of questions about the beat grid.

If you have tracks that aren't quantised and you mark out a beat grid by hand ... is that going to smash it down to a rigid quantise and kill the groove?

If you've marked out beat grids in two tracks and they aren't quite sitting on top of each other as nicely as you like can you nudge them so they synch sweetly?

Thanks :)

beatgrids don't affect the playback of the audio files so nothing will be "quantised" in the same way as production software.

You can nudge beatgrids in the grid section of the advanced controls. There are two little arrow buttons (left and right) that allow you to tweak where the grid sits. They are next to the controls that allow for small changes in the width of the beatgrids

if they aren't quantised, they really won't work that well together
beat gridding is different to warping in ableton
in fact, i'd warp the tracks in ableton, record them and then import them back into traktor

then you won't have to nudge!

either that, or you can ride the pitch when you play them together ...

hmmmm ... ok sounds like riding the pitch is the go.

when you say it doesn't work like ableton..this means it's not possible to place markers on every snare or kick of a track that doesn't have a consistent bpm?

no, i mean that you can't stretch the placement of the beats across the time markers

it's called warping in ablteton terms

placing markers is not quite the same concept as quanization, which is bascially what warping does

and you can't edit individual beat markers in traktor - that's why you would use ableton first

Cool thanks :)

I'm familiar with ableton warping. I think i understand the difference with what you're saying.

that's ok -> traktor doesn't work too well with broken beats, etc for syncing

Traktor WILL NOT sync breakbeat :) or it will serious glitch the track trying.....in fact it kind of turns a breaks track into a fidget track
Well maybe one in every 20 tracks or less maybe work 90% of the time

Trust me, i've being playing with Traktor for a good 2 years now and i played 85% breaks, never use the sync button.
Actually i lie

what i do if i want to use the sync is the following:
(note i am at work and dont have traktor in front of me to explain this well)
on my vci there's a sync button, that button is mapped to turn on or off the sync capabilities, eg lock sync on or off. I don't use this!
I've mapped a button on my MPD24 or EVO5 to only engage sync whilst depressed.
So what i do is use the sync to line up a single beat and drop the track from there and then beat match with the pitch control if required

Hope this makes sense?
It works really well for me at least.

^^ agreed... traktor works best for tech and house i.e. 4x4
otherwise, your looking at using the scratch version of another type of controller
