Lightsounds had a bunch of controllers last time I was in there, couldn't find much info on their site but might be worth giving them a call: (07) 3852 5566

And don't rule out the Behringer, its good enough for Daft Punk! http://thebeebblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/daft-punks-pyramid-revealed.html

no, the only controller on the market with a built-in soundcard is the omni
that's why i bought it but now i've upgraded to another system, i don't need it any longer

the sound card is reasonably good - 24bit - pretty clean - it's a solid little unit...

Yes. The BCD range combine audio interface with controllers. You will find many being sold second hand as people upgrade. They do the job, but aren't an ideal. The BCR and BCF are midi controllers (sans audio interface) catering to rotary knobs and flying faders, respectively, and are far more desirable to the much maligned BCD.

Not so. The Omni is a popular option, but one of many.

ahhh, i stand corrected

i don't trust beringher as a brand, hence my lack of knowledge on the subject

(too many dj mixers failed before i switched to other brands)

There's quite a few with soundcards if you look around

Vestax VCI300
Vestax VCM100
EKS OTUS
Couple of the denon units

Personally, i think the VCI 100 is one of the best DJ controllers going around....once you get the new firmware which kills the lag issues they had many years back
That and its metal and everything feels built nicely, not cheapily
I know mines taken a beating with no complaints

Im actually considering picking up a DJ controller myself. Used to have Denon DNS-1000's but HATED having to burn cds, keep them organised, and the jog wheels were so many kinds of aweful. On a verrryyyyy tight uni budget, but not going anywhere near a behringer, not after the mixer I had.

I think the xponent is on the money, looks solid, has good button backlighting and heaps of programmable buttons. That or a VCI-100, but that is a little out of my price range, taking into account needing a soundcard.

I think the future to DJing is digital, with a mix of serato/traktor and the like plus ableton live.

Embrace new tech people, its not all about beatmatching and playing two records at the same time

I have a Hercules but have also tried the Behringer. Go the Behriger because:

1) The jog wheels have more resistance. On the Herc they spin very easily and its difficult to use the crossfader without sometimes touching the jog wheels by mistake.
2) The Beh' has more assignable button/knobs
3) The Beh' has a control that allows you to switch between fine and course movements when using the jog wheels. With the herc you need to be very precise with the positioning of the wheels to make sure the beats are matched.

Hope this helps.

just bought the bcd3000. i found the build qulaity terrible loose screws inside and the jog wheel grinded to a halt. so i returned it. i'm thinking of going for the herculese controll 2 has a sound card and the build quality seem good.
but every thing is very close together. but i'm only going to be playing in my hostel whilst i travel.
if i wasn't i'd probably go for the xponent. if it has a sound card? its laid out much better than every thing i have seen so far. 1000 dolleroos though.

Couldn't agree more. The whole digital djing is not real djing argument is sooooooo tiring. Digital systems let you concentrate more on selection and composition, not to mention looping, fx, and 4 decks.

I got the Vestax VCI-100 myself. Solid build, heaps of programmable buttons. The only problem with it is that the default midi mapping provided with Traktor Pro is rubbish. To get the most out of the unit you need to either download a midi mapping from the web, or write your own midi map to get it to do exactly what you want and how you want it.

This is why i think the 'Digital DJ debate' is not dead and buried.

Basically 90% of these DJ controllers on the market are shit for one way or another. As others have said the only double deck and mixer type ones id even consider buying are the VCI. The rest, sure they are convenient, and very fun, but you loose so much long term satisfaction from lack of control. I just feel you cant substitute for a good control surface, and the cheep double decks just dont give you this. Added to this, is the frustration at times of only a low resolution MIDI signal, which at best limits your pitch faders to ~+/- 0.1 bpm (depending on your limits). Trust me you WILL notice this.

I personally feel there is more future in the single CD deck style combination decks, such as the Denon 3700 or EKS Otus, but these are a far far more expensive option. There does not seem to be to me a reasonable middle ground. Maybe the VCI300
