Hey Guys,

I have a decent home stereo and therefore don't see the need to buy studio monitors for now. The problem is that I have no idea how to hook my djm800 (master 1 output) to the rca inputs on my home stereo

Please Help!

hook the rca's from the output of the djm into the AUX input on the stereo. select AUX, power up mixer and decks, proceed to bang it out

the easiest way would be to use RCA->RCA cable, so it goes from master 2 on the mixer to a line input on the home stereo. i assume it's easiest though because you probably already have a cable like that lying around your home somewhere. e: yea what teknikall said :)

otherwise if you want to go from master 1 on the mixer, you'll need a XLR->RCA cable which you can buy from DJ or music shops. it looks like this (http://www.aqvox.de/webpics/Kabel/PH_XLR-RCA-CU_2.jpg) and is more expensive than the above option.

dear god jesus. I don't understand how you can understand the concepts of mixing without knowing how to do this? is it like a general question? as in you're bored at work and was wondering how? or?

Anyway, why does the sound quality suck? There might be something you're not doing right?

Try running from the Rec out instead of the Master out. That'll give you a clean line level signal. Keep all your levels out of the red on the DJM, and it should sound fine.

If it still sounds shit, well, that's why people don't use home stereos for DJing. :P

Also, what Matty said. I mean they colour code this shit and everything.

or use the booth monitor out

HANG ON!
did you plug it into AUX on you home stereo or PHONO?
If you plug into PHONO it will sound shit because the pre-amp is bigger on PHONO.
Make sure you plug the mixer into an AUX input(TV, DVD, CD, TAPE) just never use PHONO.
Only plug turntables into a PHONO input.

RCA out > RCA IN
Pretty much any input bar phono on your decent stereo should play fine
Don't red line your mixer and you will be right

I am not sure why, but nearly everyone i know with a DJM800 likes run redline constantly
Personally myself, rarely touch red lines on my Ecler and i have the limiter set low also to save my monitors should a friend go silly with the gains

some people dont know there is an output attenuation pot in which goes from -12dB -> 0dB and when its set on -12dB it is sooooo easy to redline the master..

change that and say goodbye to redlining.. (well unless you're an absolute tossbag)

Yeah I have that on my 3000. I have to adjust it when I use the mixer for gigs

regards redlining on the 800 -- i reckon it doesn't make it anywhere near as bad as the 600. it's much improved on that aspect. remember on the 600 the sound was pretty much clipped and turn into a square wave if you jack up the volume just a bit too high. on the 800s i find it's not that bad. similar to some of the high end vestax mixers.

Do djs who use cdjs or whatever and djs who use vinyl need different mixer setup?I would like to combine vinyl and cds/mp3 in my setup(I do not have one yet but I am saving and searching).I am thinkin about gettin like serato because I do not like the idea of carrying all those vinyls with me ya know?I read that serato has a not so great sound to it,but I watched a vid on it and the scratching seems pretty good and it will be very easy to mix songs.I dont think I need different mixers but I could be wrong.

if you dont have a spare rca cable, just use one of the ones connected to a cdj, doesnt sound like you need 2 of them :P

Its not that hard. I bought a second hand Ecler and didnt get an instruction book. As I thought I had phono decks I assumed that you would naturally plug into the phono line on the amp.... Its my first set of turntables and living in a strange land with no one to help set it up can become a little hard when one doesnt know it all. When I posted a query about it when I put it all together and had a listen no one could answer the same question.

Its helped at least two people in this forum. I cant wait to see you fuck up and then we can all complain about you lol

didn't read all the genius replies , but if your sq sucks,

check that your gains are low on your channels, and your EQ levels are no higher than 12 o clock.

also, check that you are not 10 yo
