View Full Version : So, who's going to Family this Friday night?
I won't be there, I have to work :( but I'll be stomping away on Saturday night. I must say I am very curious as to what it'll be like, having taken so goddam long to get their doors open!

Did any of you guys make it along the the review opening of Family last night? I'd love to know what it looked like all finished. I got a sneak peak in about 2 weeks ago and it wasn't finished but it was looking fantastic!
I'd love to hear what you thought.
techboy :-)
I went last night to see Angel T. The club looks fantastic, it is well layed out, plenty of space, the sound system pumps, and it's not too stuffy. The staff were friendly, the security left their attitudes at home, and it seemed that a good night was had by all! I know I went spastic in the corner of the stage for a couple of hours :) Angel played a wicked old-skool house set that was just the ticket after a long day at work...
I hope Family can maintain the momentum they have begun with. Provided they can, they have my patronage, that's for sure!

Is family a flop,
I went to check out family last night, I decided against it when I was told the cover charge. I was later told buy a friend that there where many people coming out of the club saying it is not worth the time or money to check it out, and also that there was hardly anybody inside. Could anybody tell me that went friday or saturday night what they thought about it and would it be worth spending 30 bucks to go to the ministry of sound club nation tour.
Thanks,
bigsvenie.
I didn't think $15 to see Angel T was too much. And there were plenty of people inside while I was there, I arrived at about 11.30... Even when I left some four hours later, there were still quite a few people in there... I personally enjoyed every second I spent in there, and I didn't see anyone there who looked like they weren't enjoying themselves.
I too heard conflicting stories from opening night... some loved it, others didn't. I guess whether you like a place is going to depend on the level of your expectation, and personal preference. The atmosphere of the place felt like Grand Orbit did when it first opened. I loved Grandos, and I feel there has been a gap in Brisbane clubland since it closed its doors... one that it seems is now closed, with the advent of Family.

Friday night at Family was possibly one of the best nights out I have ever had. The DJ who finished off the night (DJ Yani I believe?) played one of the best sets of new and old I have heard - system F, underworld, rhythmkillaz - and the atmosphere and general vibe was totally impressive.
I'll be going back to Family.
Ministry of Sound on a sound system like theirs will be awesome.
Anyone who knows where Yani is playing next, leave a response to this message.
Cheers
Pete
I thoroughly enjoyed Family, mostly because of the club, but also partly because of the company I was in... which is the essence of club experience :)
Everyone's entitled to their opinion, positive or negative, but I for one will definitely be back there on Friday night for the Ministry of Sound!

What have I told you about digging up these old threads forged?! Bad, bad man!
I knew this one would get dug up eventually. Ah well... indeed I have come a long way... haven't we all?
Incidentally, this was my 3rd ever post on ITM (almost 3 years ago)... and the opening night of Family was one of the best nights out i've ever had. And just to really embarass myself... Dj Yani was in fact Hakka ;D The fact that I had no idea who he was (some gurner on the dancefloor had told me his name was DJ Yani, WTF?) shows how new I was to 'the scene'...
Don't hate me because I was young and stupid!
There's plenty more gems like that from some of the older members on here... you just gotta find 'em ;)

 yeh I have read alot of the old threads from a couple of years ago and there is some golden shit in there
I think these old threads can be good for a bit of a laugh. It's interesting seeing how much some of the folk on these forums have changed...
I swear Custaro's post above sounds like something that Cruisy would post in 2004...
It's all just part of growing up in the scene I guess so Cruisy, there's hope for you yet!

I'm coming, but i'll be downstairs on the main floor checking out DJ Yani and "reliving the dream"
And just to put that first post in to context... at the time I was living on the Sunshine Coast, going to uni, and spending most of my time cruising around with Verdi listening to Ministry Of Sound: Hard Energy: Mixed by Fergie and Yomanda.
And Trancemaster 2024.
Oh the shame.

No shame in that one custaro, that cd is gold. Easily the best Hard Energy MOS ever produced. Absolute gold. Still gets a run on my stereo quite frequently.
I haven't read this thread so I'll guess
how good is it when you have family around?
