…are the wankers on public transport who sit there all smug and blare music out of their mobiles.
Has anyone noticed a steady rise in this kind of behaviour?
I’m all about playing music for other people, I think we all are. But there is a time and a place for it and it isn't 8am on a bus.
It baffles me how people think that it is OK to do this. What are they trying to achieve?
Do they think that they are going to start a rave on the tram with their tinny-little mobile speakers?
Do they think that with their “amazing music” they going to change the life of the stiff looking dude in the business suit, so that he breaks free from the restraints of the corporate grind and his suburban boredom and starts popping-and-locking next to the ticket machine?
Or are they simply just arrogant arseholes who have no awareness of anyone around them?
I vote the latter.

No, actually my morning has been fine. I keep my headphones on when I catch the tram, so they really don't annoy me that much.
Still, I think it's wrong, and I just don't get these people, so wanted to see if anyone else feels the same.

could be worse ... they could just be using ipod earphones and full volume. I've taken to pitying these people rather than deriding them after actually listening to some music on them.
congrats, you have the latest technology ... but taken a huge leap backwards in audio quality

I imagine it would be annoying if you were trying to get in a nana nap before work or read a book - I drive to work so it I don't really encounter it...
Something that amuses me though is seeing people with MP3 players wearing huge expensive headphones like sens or technics - the cans are worth more then the player and they just look plain silly when you are walking down the street (car and pedestrian noise doesn't need to be blocked out that much)

Yep school kids are some of the most annoying when it comes to this behaviour. They blast out there music and rap/sing along with it....
try taking the train from cabramatta to parramatta every mourning.. i hear a minimum of 3 phones with shitty rnb going off with the usual "fuck yulleh, fuck bro blah blah" going on.

i never figured out why people get so wound up about this? tbh most of the time i use my technics with my ipod as listening to deep/heavy dnb or dubstep on inears just dosn't cut it as they can't reproduce the subbass correctly (read- at all) and ends up sounding like shit.
i think there was actually a thread in the general forum about this a while ago. i can't understand why people seem to get their noses out of joint about this? surely you have better things to worry about than how people choose to enjoy their music........

Spot on.
Its not the worst thing ever, but it is still poor form in my opinion.
It becomes my concern about how other people listen to their music, when the way they listen to their music impacts on me.

No. The worst kind of dj's are the ones who tell you they have all this gear but only ever seem to mix at your house. They also lie about gigs, 99% of their tracks are 192kb pirated shit. They can't mix as good as what their recorded mixes sound like (ever). And also lie to another person that their "gear" which they don't even have has been loaned to me since my gear is getting repaired when mine is perfectly working.
THAT IS THE WORST KIND OF DJ.

it doesn't annoy me THAT much that it's loud (i can always turn up the ipod), but it's very lame and makes me feel embarrassed for them...., just wish their track selection was better.

This.
When it comes to dance music on MP3 players or phones or iPods, listening to Hard Dance while walking on the streets is like wearing a suit while walking in a jungle filled with predators and muddy landscape.
I love listening to Deep House or Acid House whenever i walk on the streets of Melbourne or London or Kuala Lumpur. I also tolerate Trance while on the streets. But hard Dance? That's a taste killer.

to my knowledge tiesto and avb have never even entered the DMC, so how can they be number 1?
they were actually voted most popular by their fans
it was a popularity contest, not a dj competition
and if it was a dj competition, producing tracks would not have been relevant

Well, i'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the egoness.
You know, wannabe DJs saying "I want to be like Tiesto!"
And ten years later, they are still stuck at a residency in a boring ass club.
And i'm not talking about DMC at all. Why bring DMC into this?
why not bring it into play? you are talking number ones, DMC is the standardized dj comp recognised by all genres
you cant even a small trance in 3 minutes

good luck, if you wish you can use my DMC name - Wiki McScratch
It hasn't been used before, and I have some others I can use if I need to
DMC = Turntablism.
Turntablism =/= being able to program a set for 3 hours.

Step one:

Its not that every young person has to be a dj, but we can atleast give them some music awareness.

A friend got handed a demo CD in a club by some guy claiming to be the next best thing, him and his mate apparantle were so sure of themselves being the next best thing in minimal and tech-house that they had to hand out CD's to everyone
anyway, I was listening to it in my car and the whole thing lacked direction, was pretty well mixed but weas probably done in ableton. No progression in the set, and most of the songs were pretty terrible.
That is the worst kind of DJ, one that obviously wants to be someone and picks a genre that is the "in-thing" of the moment without any awareness of the genre or its history and what actually sounds good.
Go back to trying to play acoustic guitar and singing about clouds like the rest of the douchebags trying to impress girls. You just wasted a perfectly good CD.

well, some like it, some dont. i never went there prior to djing, it was just a huge sweat fest of gurners and what not. had its good times, and the first time i dj'd there, i dont think anybody was expecting to hear the music i play (more bass heavy music as opposed to the distortion stuff they were playing) and the crowd reacted so positively and pretty much had one of my best nights that night. after time it started crumbling apart and i noticed that you had to bend over if you wanted to have good set-times and exposure. alot of newbs (goto the for sale section on this site for reference) were getting pushed and could barely dj. i noticed it was more of a popularity thing instead of someone with a passion for music.
sorry for that lengthy paragraph of whining. hahaha
