Hey
Is it possible to link my discogs account up to a paypal account like ebay so that I can instantly pay for an item and have insurance like you get on ebay?
I just bought three records, but I dont now how the fuck to pay for them. They say they take ebay, so I am guessing I take their email go to paypal and pay them to that email? There must be a better way, there is no way a proper store could operate on a payment system like this where the sale isnt tracked to the record on ebay
thanks

the seller determines the payment method. i have paypal preferred on my sellers account. some do, some don't. but yes, you can. discogs doesn't have its own e-commerce interface.

hey mate check your discogs my friend bought one of your items for sale but we dont now how da fuck to pay you.
do I just use your email in paypal to make the payment to? So that means there is no insurance like there is in ebay it comes down to the buyer/sellers honesty and if something goes wrong you use paypal not discogs to sort out the problem
This must be a real hassle for shops who sell shit loads of records
Imagine checking your paypal account with random $20-30 payments that arent linked to the exact discogs transaction, god just realised how organised ebay really is

not if the buyer includes the unique transaction id in the paypal message.
ebay is way more of a headache payment wise imo (for both buyers and sellers)
btw i think ebay for records is on the way out, if you compare the stock available of discogs and ebay there's no contest (always higher prices on discogs though).

yeh but if a seller sells like 100 records a day on ebay it has $ received, item posted etc, so it pretty much tracks the whole transaction and you can see what the item is whereas with discogs its just a number. And on ebay you just go paynow and it goes to your paypal with the ebay transaction.
Just a q's, is this how you pay with discogs - you have to log into paypal seperately, put in the paypal email provided from the discogs and pay the required amount + postage then you just wait for the seller to send you the record and hope the seller is honest and will send the item yeh? How do you know when he/she has received the money and is sending it, is it all via messaging or is there an automated "your item has been posted" command like in ebay?
Half the stuff I just addeed to my crate has no postage price, how do I know how much to pay, do I have to wait for them to email me? Doesnt that mean I can buy a record worth 4 pounds then the seller can charge whatever postage they want?
I have bought items from discogs before but they were all from australia pick up now I want to start using it more
cheers

yeah you got most of what you said right.
a seller has a drop down box of options once a transaction has started, such as buyer contacted, invoice sent, payment received, item shipped, order cancelled (unavailable), order cancelled (buyer) or something like that.
from personal experience working out a fair postage rate can only be determined after purchase when all weight it tallied up. i've found i'm either selling myself short or overcharging if i try to work out a >1 postage rate.
i find that with anything on the net it is about honesty. i'd rather trust person to person that companies as i've only had shite interactions with corporations.. bring back the community vibe.
but yeah. money not required until contact made from the seller and they tell you the total. if they charge bullshit for payment you just retract the order rather than be held over a barrel.
