I was thinking about buying some TTs and having a play around on vinyls.
1. I think that it'll be more fun, less digital more physical.
2. It is going against the current trend? I reckon vinyls will be getting cheaper as people switch to CDJs or digital. More supply less demand
3. If I for some reason I dont like it I can just switch to serato for $700 (I already have a lappy)

Would you guys recommend it?

vinyls lol

getting cheaper? more supply less demand? fkn hell, firstly, that makes no sense at all, and secondly, why do you think there is more supply? vinyl has become a lot more expensive now because the supply has reduced because only few lables distribute it.

My suggestion before you buy vinyl and tt, go back to high school
omg

well I thought considering the general trend everyone will be switching to CDJS or whatever hence selling their vinyl.

plus any new djs most likely will not go to vinyl, but CDJs instead.

Wont that make vinyl prices go down? i am talking about 2nd hand vinyl

EDIT: oh ok, maybe you didn't realise I was talking about 2nd hand vinyl. as I suggested in my first post, and I am not the one saying "omg, fkn hell"

Vinyl is awsome mate, much more fun to use IMO.
Ive tried cdjs and they just dont cut it...dont really care about loops, hot cueing, and all the other rubbish people get hard over when useing cdjs.
Vinyl has soul bro! And yeah it isnt cheap but you learn to sacrifice other things in life for youre vinyl addiction. The good thing as you have mentioned is alot of idiots are selling thier collections...this is good as you can pick up alot of gems for fuck all coin.

Yeah - some second hand records are cheap... most aren't, though. The good ones usually sell for a similar price to what they did new.

I also prefer vinyl over CD-Js, but each has their positive.

Thanks treason!

and johnjay I admit that yes I am aware that NEW vinyl prices will be going up, but hey if it gets too expensive then I can switch to traktor. But I might as well try it while I can, itll be alot harder in 5 or 10 years.

just do it, who cares you'd rather pay $30 for a new piece of vinyl then some crappy 4/4 house record that used to be a promo in 1998 that no one wanted.

pomrocks

i cant see vinyl going down in price at all....

but i think going down the turntable route aint a bad option

if you realise that vinyl costs a lot you can always use your TTs with a DVS instead and have the best of both worlds

^^ fucking ay. and if you learn how to crate dig properly, you can get tunes/samples that most people would never come across because it's shit that's so old/unknown it's never been made into a cd.

Indeed!
And to take the time and effort to actually learn to DJ on decks will give you a better appreiciation for music. Anyone can auto bpm on a CDJ....to lean to mix with vinyl takes a bit of dedication and in the end you will relise its a timeless format which dosent need all the gimmicks digital djaying requires.

I bought a Japanese copy of Led Zeppelin III today for 50c! I think it's a bootleg.

It's crackly as fuck though. :(

With the rise of Beatport and the others dl sites the amount of shit music has gone through the roof.

If you just like playing tunes like i do, no looping, scratching, effects off the mixer only or not at all, playing records is buy far the most fun way to mix, i have cd's as well but tt's win the day for me.

In regards to the debate on the pricing of 2nd hand vinyl ... it simply comes down to knowing where to dig for what to pick up quality at a reasonable price. (i'm not giving up my sources ... fuk you ^_^ ) Also, it most certainly is not only the most shitty releases you can pick up 2nd hand. Some of my most epic/classic vinyl purchases have been 2nd hand.

and FFS ... the plural of vinyl is vinyl

johnjay ... you're a twit

that sounds more like a problem with your ears and selection techniques, not the medium

but no mirth from the clear parallels between you whining about the correct way to say the plural of vinyl while misspelling a word with one syllable.

well i say go for vinyl...if you can afford decent decks.

i tried to give vinyl a go, and fell in love with it, at the same time i fell out of love with money, god shit decks from ebay that effectively broke within a day or something...and then got too worried buying any decks second hand (and not being able to afford new ones) went back to digital for now.

still got one of the vinyl decks working for a third deck option. also i bought heaps of second hand packs of vinyl, not all in best condition, but have won out evertime so far, there is bucket loads of cheap second hand vinyl, as everyone sells up to cds, but you have to buy in bulk generally

I love listening to(and eventually buying) white labels with no cover/label and weird messages written on them. You can't find that on Beatport!

I once bought a white label and on one side was a really strange remix of "Lenny Kravitz - Are you gonna go my way" that was labeled "Best Remix ever" and on the flip a 6 minute long filtered house tune with only 32 bars of intro till its first breakdown - oh it was labeled "Cruzy gay shit".

Anyone had any similar experiences with white labels?

ferretrock
15-Sep-09, 10:11pm
usually my whitelabels are just test presses/promos, not bootlegs.

Neil UPP
15-Sep-09, 10:54pm
well one side was a bootleg, and one was not.

I live about 10 minutes from Revolve Records, and when im on holidays i always have a dig around....and often find weird white labels and I have no idea what they are! No markings whatsoever.

Treason

Found a few interesting whitelabes/bootlegs over the years...most of them i think are cool at the time but once i buy them they get added to the collection never to be played again unless i feel like throwing a wild card into the mix
