dont dissapoint

If I get the answer I will upload a picture of my new record bag :) it will impress I guarantee it.

Ok here is the problem.

I have my mixer output going from my mixer to the line in of my soundcard and the output of the sound card going to my monitors. I can hear everythign tha comes from my computer in the monitors perfectly. When I spin tunes everything is perfect. I can record in audacity all good.

Now here is where the problem is.

When I want to just record the sound coming out of my computer I cant do it. I select my USB sound card in audacity so it should work. The sound card is connected to the computer via the usb and I can hear the sound.

When I unplug the soundcards USB and set the default to the computers original crappy soundcard it records.

I want to be able to hear what I record coming out of my computer on my monitors so this option is shit.

What am I doing wrong? I have set the settings to stereo and I have chosen the sound card in audacity preferences YET it doesnt recognise the sound coming from my computer, WHY? The sound actually plays which means the sound card is processing because if it did not the monitors would not be playing the sound, it but audacity refuses to record. When I select the USB soundcard the drop down does not provide a "stereo" option it only provides a "microphone" option. When I unplug the soundcard and revert back to the computers soundcard and change the setting in audacity to this shit soundcard the drop down now has the "stereo" option along with microphone, line in and mono.

I am using a Yamaha Audiogram3 sound card. And in the speaker options when I go to "recording" I have selected the right soundcard, seriously what am I doing wrong? Please tell me there is an obvious thing im missing.

When you select the option of the sound card on record, it uses that sound card interface only to record input.

The sound from the PC output goes out the sound card, but not going into the record input on the interface...

Understand?

The reason the internal soundcard can do that, is because of its setup...

There may be a setting in the soundcard driver application to select the record source. Some soundcards allow you to select 'mix out' or 'wav out' as the input source. My laptop allows me to select 'stereo mix'. If the Yamaha driver doesn't have this, you may not be able to do it.

But even using onboard sound should be ok, as you are not using the converters - it's a straight digital copy.

So what audio are you trying to rip? :)

oh boy oh boy oh boy!

jokes aside i am curious as to why you are running your monitors off your sound card? wouldnt it be easier to run them off your mixer? i guess unless you are using them for production.
i have no experience with external sound cards so i can't help you with the recording problem...

So How do I get the record input to go through the yamaha sound card not the PC one?

When I select the usb sound card it does not allow me to select "stereo" from the drop down it only has "mircrophone" but when I unplug the USB and set the sound card to the pc you can select "stereo" from the drop down box

I want to be able to hear the sound from my monitors as I hate using headphones to listen to music while I am recording samples.

And what am I recording? I record samples from promo cds for a record shop in melbourne for the website and I would prefer to hear the sample on my monitors through my good sound card while i record and I cant fkn do it and I hate having to unplug the usb soundcard and plug in headphones jsut to hear what im recording

how about plugging the monitors directly into your mixer, connect the record out to your line input and then connect the line out back into your mixer (and hope like hell it doesn't cause a positive feedback loop)

I mainly use the monitors for listening to music from the computer and when I write tunes and the occasional vinyl from the mixer so connecting the monitors to mixer would compromise the setup

i jsut dont get why it doesnt work when the usb from the soundcard is plugged into the computer

i dont know the answer, but i sure have the same problem.

i have an EMU 0202 soundcard. mixer out to soundcard input, then to the comp via USB.

i can record with Ableton fine, so i know everything technically works, but Audacity wont have a bar of it. Id prefer to use Audacity, as Ableton has some stability issues with my soundcard at times
