I only ask because we all know that you is AKAI's bitch, :)
Anyway...
What's the diff between the mpc2000xl sequencer and the mpc 60 sequencer?
if they are exactly the same , then i'm a-lashing out now to get me a 2nd hand one of dem on the cheap . Dont really care that much for it's (weak :p ) sampler abilites, already got a sampler , and planing to get a another. All i want is a live sequncer with midi tightness, classing mpc swing, and 16 pads. And besides, who really needs more then 12 bit?
The biggest difference between the two is the reduced sequence memory of the mpc60... Alot less, around 1/5 as much
An os upgrade is avalible to more or less bring the mpc60 into line with the mpc3000. More likely there will be less buggs in the os too
Also it doesnt have scsi as standard although there is a rodger linn upgrade for scsi...
If u can pick up one for cheaper than a second hand 2000xl, then go for that(if u can find one that is)..

heya
excuse my reply, im a little bit drunk from the night's festivities
ok if the MPC60 is "cheap" then go for it. as long as all the pads are still responsive and you consider the asking price "cheap" then get it by all means. dont give a fuck about the disk drive, easy fix, and dont give a fuck about OS, pirate copies of the super Linn version are on the net.
if its cheap get it, you can sell these things off for ridiculous amounts of money if you get sick of it
basically the MPC60 is the first MPC to see the light of day, as it was created by the wonderful Roger Linn in partnership with Akai. This partnership went on to create the MPC3000 next and the MPC2000 was *really* just a more cost effective version of the 3000, hatched by Akai without Linn's involvement.
its interesting to note that the XL versions and the 2000 in general had NOTHING to do with mr Linn and i can only suspect that the continued success of the series left a sour taste in Roger's mouth... he saw no extra money. ouch.
yeah the low memory and low bit rate of the MPC 60 shouldnt be a concern if you are aware of them, and of course the MPC's arent the most elaborate "samplers" but who cares, buy a fucking computer for christs sake. i love it as what it is, the worlds best drum sequencer and sampler and a damn JOY to program and perform on (plus they are fun to customise and EASY to fix).
oh and i WONT buy into the "MPC60 has a unique swing that the others dont" argument as ive only spent about three hours tops on an MPC60 and to be honest, i didnt see/hear/feel anything too extraordinarily different about the sequencing feel
to shut up.... if its cheap get it. if you can track down the "service commands" to check the exact responses of the pads that'd be great too... i only know how to enter the so-called "secret" service menu on the MPC2000XL, not the other unit but this would let you see if everything is perfect
one last thought to consider, much like the TB-303 theres a shitload of hype on that unit, so if its cheap.... give it to me :)
(ps, im not Akais bitch. i hate the slow ass fuckers... over-priced and never get their OS to perfection before they make a new model, but hey, they got lucky twice in my eyes... the MPC and the S2000 were/are awesome tools for music making... )
now i must go sink some more amber mead b4 sleep occurs
by the way... how much? :)
