oh boy oh boy oh boy please dont get me started on Kraftwerk
Switched On Bach was the first record i ever heard as a kid and when dad broke it, i (aged 5) made him find something similar...
...he came back with Kraftwerk

oh no no no you dont want that
i wont even go into how much of a challenge it was for the member of a traditionally science and politics family to pull off a stunt like MAKING MUSIC
to make it worse my uncle, a barrister among other political stations, was once in a certain punk rock band of small fame, so i CONSTANTLY get the "oh he will grow out of it like XXXXX did!"
haha why do you think i moved to brisbane! fresh start and to crawl my way up in this seedy industry
but i talk too much...
has anyone got any comments/experiences of kraftwerk?
one thing i grew up loving was the amount of music/acts that were sampling kraftwerk music before it became cool to do so!
go listen to "we are the robots" and you will most likely go "ooooh" and "aahhh!" recognising the samples.... especially if you have been a hiphop fan in the late 80s :P
by the way what was the band that those two ex-kraftwerk guys made?
that was pretty intriguing stuff too!
i really hope to NEVER hear anything new from these guys though... i mean i barely give the Herbie Hancock recent album the tick of approval.... the last thing i need is ANOTHER of my childhood idols trying to "get with the times"
then again, Herbie really is in a class of his own

Great article. I am always inspired by the way some artists break new ground well before there time and don't get any credibility until many years later. ;)

daft punk would no doubt have everything by kraftwerk, in the same way that kraftwerk were amazed (like the rest of us) at the skills/maths/talent of composers such as Beethoven and his one-time tutor... mozart
if past conversation serves me well a certain female ex-brisbanite partner in crime of polar-bears is a big big kraftwerk fan (or was)
i suppose its around my age that the "cut off point" for people who grew up listening to kraftwerk as kids is
next people will be heralding the genius of Jive Bunny
(or not... :P)
no well kraftwerk may be synth-pop-whatever but put into relevant perspective... fantastic
if you cant appreciate that, just wobble around the room singing
"WE ARE THE RO-BOTS"
doot doot doooo dooot!
WE ARE THE RO-BOTS
doot doot DOOO DOOT!
WEEEE ARRREEE THE ROB-OTSSSS
etc etc

man i'm so envious of your musical legacy! i grew up with nothing more inspiring than niel diamond and abba - bleh. it's been a hard road of people going "pffft, you don't know who jeff mills is!?!??!" etc etc, but i think i'm slowly getting there
