:::::: DJ Rasp ::::::

Bio for DJ Rasp July 2001 by Emma Grasso

Since bursting onto the Brisbane dance scene in March 2000, DJ Rasp has been praised for his distinguished sounds and cheeky style. With blends of Breakbeat/Electro and Tech House, he has heavily pushed the sound of Nu Skool breaks to Brisbane crowds. DJ Rasp's musical journey began in `97, when he started collecting vinyl in the days when Speed Garage was at its peak. Other influences include Armand Van Helden, Cut La Roc, DJ Sneak and The Freestylers.

His distinctive vibrant style and ability to flow through various
genres, incorporating technical mixing and turntablism, bring
together a live, energetic and individual performance.

Rasp's impressive list of residencies and debut performances have taken place in clubs and raves such as;

· Fresh and Funky @ the Moon Bar (Resident)
· System 6 House Factory (Resident)
· Adventjah Team Events (Resident)
· R.N.A Showgrounds
· `Arena' Entertainment Complex
· Monastery Nightclub
· Ja Ja's Lounge
· Jameson's Bar

His fusion of BreakBeat, Electro Beat and Tech House creates a unique sound that has consequently catapulted him to playing alongside international acts such as Carl Cox, Fat Boy Slim, Plump DJs, Will White (Propellerheads), Dom n Roland, Peanut Butter Wolf, Mekon, Oliver Lieb plus local and interstate talent Resin Dogs, Nu Breed, Phil K, Ransom and Sonic Animation to name a few.

Future plans for Rasp include a DJ tour of America's West Coast Break Scene in November 2001.

Watch out for DJ Rasp and upcoming projects such as his involvement with funk band Blu Rhume, Cold Fusion Productions and a duo musical act.

:::::: Astral Bliss [DJ/Producer] ::::::

[from Astral Bliss' website : http://student.uq.edu.au/~s353326/]

I have been djing a little while and more recently getting into audio production. At various venues and events I've been playing my cds to crowds with mixers and amplified sound systems. The music I play is best described as ambient, dub and trance. While I also mix breaks, acid, techno, house and trip hop.

Currently I have more than 440 tracks in my collection that I
consider for playing, with a total unmixed play length of over 20
hours. Most of the tunes I play are imported from Europe, but there is also significant local content to my sets.

Nearly all of my music is on compact disc, while I play tracks on
vinyl only occasionally. Before and when playing, I carefully select, order and mix tracks to form a set appropriate to the context I'm playing in.

At the very least, I'd like people that hear me dj, to form an
opinion of the music I play. While at most, I aim to make people feel better, through hearing some uplifting tunes, mixed on an amplified sound system. More recently I have been tinkering with music production on home computers.

Productions
Dj'ing will hopefully be a good prelude to the composition of my own electronic music.

A Spin 'n' Jam <http://www.paradox.com.au/~spin-n-jam> promotional segment for 4zzz <http://www.4zzzfm.org.au/> was the debut of my music production to a general audience. 4 min 33 sec <http://student.uq.edu.au/~s353326/Astral/4min33sec/index.htm> is the next piece of music I produced for submission on a compilation cd called Disturbing Cages
<http://www.csee.uq.edu.au/~michaeln/cages.html>.

I'm working on a number of tracks for submission on an upcoming Spin 'n' Jam <http://www.paradox.com.au/~spin-n-jam> compilation cd and developing collaborative material with other musicians and vocalists.

Twilight is the title to the first piece of major music I am
composing, a downtempo composition which is a tribute to a beautiful sunset. This music will be accompanied by video, be freely streamed online and completed in 2002.

Upcoming Events
In 2001, I'm not going to be bringing my cds regularly to Spin 'n'
Jam <http://www.paradox.com.au/~spin-n-jam>. However I do want to play the following sets in the coming months,

· trip hop
· Superstition favourites
· Australian artists
· Soundhive label artists
· acapella and vocal chill tracks

In 2001, Astral Bliss is going more underground as I develop my own music. However, I'd like to play in a cafe, commercial lounge, bar or other relaxed setting as well djing at the occasional outdoor party.

Sunday July 22, 2001 I'm playing a chill set on briz:b:e:a:t:s for
Pulseradio <http://pulseradio.net/index2.html>. To hear this you will need to stream mp3 over the internet.

Later that night I'm playing house, techno and trance at Mantra (233 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley), early Sunday evening, 7:30 - 9:00 pm. Also playing at this event, the final sun@mantra live electronic music night, are DJ Erther [drum'n'bass] and live sets from Vario Air [hip hop beats] and Taiyo [electro].

I'm looking forward to these events as well as sharing my promotional mixes online. I'll have mp3 files on this web page soon. These will contain mixes from my demo cds.

Ambiotica
Thanks to Soundhive <http://www.soundhive.com.au> I have been able to put together a promotional cd. Ambiotica is soft and relaxing, but still uplifting. It contains mixed chill, ambient, break and dub. With 17 artists, 25 tracks and a total playing time of just over 68 minutes, Ambiotica was cut (mixed, processed and burnt) on the 11 February 2000, just 3 months after I started mixing.
