hey, don't worry im not starting a discussion here about the merits/pitfalls of each console...
i'm doing an assignment on the marketing strategy of each console (demographics targeted, etc etc), does anyone have any websites that have good news articles or information relating to the sales and strategies of each? i've found a few but im still looking.
if you can think of any particular articles youv'e read in the past year or so it would be a maaaaaaaaaaaaassive help.
post here or email me!
cheers.

I'm not being facetious, but have you tried this (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=game+console+marketing+strategy)?

Mate you should research the marketing of the Dreamcast!
It is Sega's 128 bit system which they brought out way to early and marketed like complete shit. This has probably put an end to Sega making consoles ever again, now they're just making games for other platforms. I reckon if Sega had marketed this properly then it would be the #1 system out there right now....just a shame they didn't!

i dunno Scott.. marketing is only a part of the equation. its come to the stage where console makers have to be prepared to take losses over generations to garner market support and still have a money pit deep enough to throw at it "til it works". what with Sony's ridiculous strangehold and enormous userbase right now its pretty much the only way.
the sad thing for Sega was that they were in financial ruins by the time of the Dreamcast.. and even though it was leagues ahead of its compeition in every way imaginable, Sega simply couldn't afford to keep it viable over an entire generation. hence its untimely death and Sega's hardware exit.

you could try www.arnnet.com.au or search for ARN (australian reseller news) in yahoo. That should provide a good starting point.
Be careful though as i know that the Xbox has a totally different marketing strategy here than it does in the US... same may go for the others too.
Stick to aussie sites and you should be right... unless you are doing international marketing strategies that is!!!
