Pioneer CDJ2000 x 2, Pioneer DJM800 - should cost a small boat load of money

With the money you didnt save, try using the search function.

Or how about going to storedj.com.au and looking under dj packages.

Go to storedj or dj warehouse and have a play around and ask lots of question.

Your're going to get too many expert answers here.

i don't know anything about cdj's, but in my opinion the best bang for your buck on entry level mixers is with Vestax.

(assuming you're just getting started)

do not get a numark mixer!

thats your simplest option..

it would be possible to assign different channels from logic to different channels of you mixer, assuming you have enough outputs on your sound card and enough inputs on you mixer...

but to keep things as simple as possible you could use the mixdown in logic, and output everything to one output on your soundcard and one input on your mixer.

Why not Numark? Have you had a bad experience?

Why not Numark?

Yeap :|

But for ~$500 as my first mixer it did the job :thumb:

for your first setup id go basic as possible. because my theory is if u can learn to mix properly with out the aid of BPM counters and Pitch Matchers you can then go on to basically play on anything.

CDJ 100's
and just any 2 Channel Mixer with Hi Mid & Lo's

numark mixers are shit. cdj 400/800 plus a decent mixer. often people skimp on the mixer to buy a better cdj/etc but thats faulty logic - the mixer ends up being the throughout for the sound so if u get a shitty mixer the sound quality goes way down

are you speaking from experience mate? Every DXM06 i have ever seen holds up well (esp for the price) and they can be upgraded to the innofader for the crossfader.

donnie_dee

i would just rather start out with a mixer that doesn't need the faders upgraded.. hence vestax.

Well, cdj400s, djm400 is a perfect setup for at home, all you need are some half decent headphones, and a half decent speaker setup and your all set....

Post a set when ur ready too ;D

Yeah, I'm hoping it will do the trick. A year of saving has finally come to an end, can't wait to put a few tracks together. Already made all my CD's, track lists etc.

gahhhhh, don't do it!
If you're just starting out, don't be like everyone in Sydney who just pounds on a cue button so they can say they're a dj.
If you want to actually learn to dj properly, get some turntables, even some cheap ass technics, (once they're direct drive)
You'll become alot more competent with your beatmatching and you'll develop alot more versatility and genuine DJing skills that depend on training your ears rather than just relying on a display.
If you can learn on vinyl, cds will fall into place easily.

Best advice is to learn the basics on a mate's decks or do a 1-day crash course somewhere and then just try everything until you find what suits your style. Everyone has a mate who will say 400s or 1000s are the best thing they've ever used. Have they ever used anything else?
Best of luck with it!

1. he is in victoria...

2. I have 1200s and i wouldnt advise someone who has done a bit of research to get them straightup as you can get them second hand for $1k and they will come with a serious vinyl addiction, and it wont help you play out in the clubs...

LOL @ cheap ass technics.

I actually went 50/50 with a mate about 15 months ago in a really cheap set up (I think it cost us $250 each including decent headphones, second hand) for that very reason. Also, because we wanted to (both of us) ensure that it wasn’t just a phase before we put out $1.5k+ on something ‘decent’.

I definitely understand what you’re saying however I think I’ve done what you recommended already?

I agree - I also have turnies and would not recommend them for a beginner. Vinyl costs a bomb and I've found that playing in clubs these days on vinyl is a nightmare - decks never work. Vinyl DJs are an oddity these days.

I agree it helps with your beatmatching skills, but it is not worth the extra coin involved.

Yeah, I'm a 1210 and a 1200. Got the Mk5 1200 for $780 in what must be the sale of the century off a guy who had 2 days before he left the country and couldn't afford to ship them!
Once you go black you never go back, and I'm talking about vinyl! I've got a set of CDJ1000s and it's just not the same.

Plus now that it's almost as much an industry standard to bring your own serrato setup and there'll be a set of 1200s lying around in a club, anywhere other than VIC and you wouldn't have a problem in most venues nowadays.
Give it 5 years and everybody playing clubs will be on laptops and cheap-ass ableton.

Not in our lifetime IMO, there will always be a need for carefully selected and nicely mixed tunes.... :D

Hey guys,

thanks for the input,
However I learned on Deck's Vinyl, I got sick of spending so much money on records, I would rather spend less and be able to get the tracks I want on CD or AIFF.

Yes it sounds better, and the human heart and spirit connects much better with The old school communication.

Records are an expensive addiction... do you agree?

thanks

can always start using serrato?
Crates will then eliminate the need for cds...

So is Harry H. Whats your point?

CDJ800's and an entry level mixer with basic eq's imo. If you ever work your way into a club then you'll be well prepared. ;D

It's people like you that allow pioneer to keep charging such a premium for their gear.

There are plenty of worthy competitors out there, without which this entire forum wouldn't exist.
