View Full Version : Using home theatre to run DJ Setup

I'm looking at buying my first setup in the next couple of weeks, just wondering if I can run some RCA's to my home theatre system from my mixer?
I've never really had an up close look at the back of the mixer, so I'm not 100% sure what inputs are actually available to use (will probably be a DJM 400)
Or am I just best off saving a couple of hundred more bucks and getting some monitors?

rca output from the mixer to RCA input to the Stereo inputs.
Thus providing that you do have an imput into your system.
But if you can afford it, get monitors. Otherwise, save your coin.

Yeah I do have stereo inputs, just wasn't sure if it was acually do-able as I haven't really heard anybody talk about it before.
Will probably get monitors shortly after, but I just wanna get mixing as soon as I can at the moment

Practically every DJ mixer has RCA outputs on them, and every HT has RCA inputs, so do the math.
I thought kids googled everything these days?

It actually bothers me that in this day and age of technology and youth exposure to it, that a question like this was asked.

I sometimes use my Panasonic home theatre system hooked up to my djm800 through digital out, the only problem is that the panasonic is like.. 5ms lagged behind my headphones which causes problems when I mix (call me a noob, but I can't mix solely in my cans :-O )
I have ran my tv audio through the KP2 while watching the cricket before, is that normal?

Well, I did learn how to fuck from watching porn.
Legitimate question IMO. Guitar amps have outputs but you shouldn't run your set-up through it...

turn any of the "DSP" effects on your amp off then, or use analogue connections

I commonly use my home theatre set up with no problems. It actually sounds great when cranked! :D

Legitimate my arse, we are not talking about a guitar amp in case you hadn't noticed.

Yes sorry, inputs. And it's not recommended because the signal that the guitar will put out is a lot lower than what the mixer will and you run the risk of blowing up the amp.

Lol, I shouldn't bother with this. However it has been said above that so long as there are inputs/outputs (etc) you can plug your mixer into it which is not true.

 that would probably make it a bit more interesting to watch. Might have to give that a try

choo have to get a DI box, plug the guitar into that, and that splits it into two line level channels so from their you can go straight into your mixer and not fuck about having an entire guitar amp as part as your kit
