Hi All,

Im looking to upgrade my mixer. Ive been dj-ing for about 1 year now, primarily playing house, progressive, electro, tech.. however im not particuarly genre locked. I like to play around with all types of music and have some fun. Im currently using a Pioneer DJM300, which came with my CDJ100's (have since upgraded to CDJ-400's.)

Up until now I haven't been big on using effects whilst mixing, because I've never really had any to play with. So effects aren't a huge deal for me, however it would be nice to experiment a little.

Ive only ever played on Pioneer gear so far, with mates DJM800's, 400's and my 300. However I want to make sure Im buying the right product once, cause its too expensive to chop and change, therefore im open to suggestions for any brands (with logical reason.) Im after a 4 Channel Mixer, willing to spend $1500 max (inc Shipping)

Currently leaning towards the DJM-700, the 800 is overkill for home Bedroom Bangin imho. Also like the idea of the sampler on the 700 and filtering samples with effects. (Not sure what the tech term for this is - dont think the 800 does this?) Just want to make sure im making the right descision, however should I be considering Xone 42 etc?

Cheers
-J

Have had a bit of a play at one of the local music stores in A-town, however always find myself most comfortable on the Pioneer mixers because I have used them before and am familiar with the layout.

Kind of yeah, but just because im familiar with a product doesn't necessarily make it the better product to buy does it? I'm considering features etc aswell :p

Once upon a time I didn't know my way around a Pioneer mixer either haha.

can't go wrong with the xone 62, factory sound have the price slashed down to $1300 but that's in melbourne, it's worth looking around and playing with different gear and comparing prices to see what suits you best.

i've got a xone 42 and really like it. picked it up cheap off ebay. prefer it much more to a djm800, which i think feels cheap. effects sound crap anyways. all u really need are the filters, which are top quality on the xone.

+1 for Xone over a DJM 700/800

Like you've said, just coz you're used to Pio, doesn't mean you have to stick to it/that it's the best...plus the more experience you have on a variety of mixers, the less daunted you'll be when you go play at a club/mates place which has something other than Pio...which does happen...but generally, a lot of places have Pio, so if you're already used to that, there's no great must to have one at home, eh? Have something better at home imo

Ecler, Rane, A&H > miles of daylight > Pioneer

It's like MP3 players, iPod are far from the best, they just have fucking amazing marketing and thus huge dominance in the market.

Shop around, don't make the decision lightly, try out various mixers, try them out new and look up to $2200 odd, if you love that mixer, you might well be able to find a second hand one for around the $1500 mark...and if after trying other things out, you still want to stick with an 700/800, you can, but least you then know you're making a fully educated and informed decision. They're not that bad a mixer, they've very functional, but they're not as good in terms of sound quality and build quality as others out there.
