View Full Version : What would I need ??
Ok, I MAY have access to a wharehouse type area so I want to have a house party for me and my friends ect.....
It will fit about 100 people in it, my question is what do I need to set it up ?? I can play the records but when it comes to setting it all up i am lost.
We will be renting all the gear so i want to know what to ask for.
I got decks and mixer so it is just amps, speakers, connections ect....
Can anybody help me out with what sort of stuff I would need to get ?? Much appreciated !!!

No, honestly. Just call DMC on Elizabeth St, Redfern and explain the size of the room and the sort of party that you want and they'll sort it. Tell them you've never done it before. They are friendly and won't take the piss. In fact, I think that they do sort of 'house party packs'.
Make sure you take the proper ID down there when you hire though or they will get the arse - believe me...

100 people... well if they all chip in about 5 bucks max you can get a nice little system without much hassle
basic bits you will be choosing from include:
mixer - you got a dj mixer? or need a bigger board to hit the amp?
amp or amps - the rental place will best advise on size amp
eq - a 25 band eq rack would be lovely if the hire place can set it up for you, id advise taking a package that offers this. the engineer setting up can fine tune the eq to the warehouse and this is not something innexperienced people have much luck with
crossovers - probably in the rack with the amp, these things split the signal between your lower frequency cabs (cabinets in laymens terms) and your higher feq cabs. again, not something the inexperienced want to have to work out.
the actual speakers/cabs... again the hire place will best advise if you give them the low down on what the venue consists of
as for cabling you and the bump in/out and setup, leave it to the professionals.
having quickly said all that (but not much at all) you can kinda guess i think you get what you pay for as long as you are accurate with the hire company what your needs are. ive paid many a weeks rent doing live sound reinforcement and nothing is worse then a Venue being not what you expected or just as funny, having gear thats way overkill for its needs.
which is why im not reccomending any specific amp power or anything. leave it to your local pros. also, what city is this in?
Wow, thanks driload very much for that, it is exactly the info I was after BUT all that went straight over my head big time. Crossovers ?? 25 band eq rack ?? I am used to going to partys and dancing and thats about it. I can mix but thats as far as it goes.
The party will be in Beverly Hills (Sydney), I don't want anything crazy just enough to pump out some decent sound that we can dance too.
I will go talk to DMC and I know they are very helpful cause i bought my decks and stuff there, as i said before but i wanted to at least know a little about what i need first.
