SYD - Open decks night

Hey,

Just putting out an eoi on an open decks night. Just what night people would be interested in and such. Location would be kings cross. ATM all genres ideas welcome

I've run Open Decks a few times here in Leichhardt.

I've always done house, plain and simple.
depends on your night really. I don't think it's a good idea to do hard gabba at 9pm on a thursday night if your clentele are relaxing from work with a cocktail in hand.

like I said, inner city thursday night really won't gel with dub step or hardcore.

I am very keen too... sounds like an excellent idea... but a word of caution, please line up the dj's so that there is some sort of a flow throughout the night....and also ask the dj's to exercise restraint and think of it as a warmup for the next dj..

yeah, definitely need to think about what kind of sound you want throughout the night, openning up the door for "anything" could be a bit chaotic with every dj going for a different sound.

Ok some good interest in this night. PM preference for time you would like to play if you will be showing up for a spin. Times will go to those who ask first on this night. Depending on how high an interest level will depend on how long you can play for. Would 1/2 hour in peak times be too short ?

I would be interested at having a bash also... Although deep is not my specialty. Any room for techno in these nights? Thurs or Sun nights rent usually great for driving, gurny techno, so I would definately have to dial it down a touch :lol:

Yeh thurs or sun...tho if u can manage a fri or sat and maybe require submission of live mixes to help choose what dj;s play, to ensure quality? May not work dunno just would be cool but yeh requires the dj's to have more skill i guess.

yea was geared for the last one but ended up in a friends apartment drinking rum... he had some decks there though so I played for about 90 minutes, trainwrecking every mix.... damn rum.

i didnt end up going because i had to stay back at work adn was just tired when i finished

Still working on the best way to arrange time slots and get everyone in, also think the style was a bit backwards for the feel of the night so will try to reverse it, but that's jus organizing things better to suite how the night will be run... And yea I've had my share of being kicked off the decks :)

Hey Andrew mate, Ian here..sorry we ended up bailing last night before I got to jump on..the guys playing were pretty decent, but I think taking it down ~10bpm might have bombed a little considering they'd played for an hour already!

I personally think it would work better if you tried to lay out the night and have a progression in the music. Would be keen to come down another night and play early on..defo got potential for a good night!

WTF? Have u been to any Pang! events in Canb?(lot 33) they always putting on shit (including open dex) they doing everything from electro/techno and inbetween. Drove down from wollongong to see oliver huntermann during easter.
