hi all,
been makin computer tunes for awhile, finally bought myself a coupla technics decks to play around with, just wondering if there are any places in sydney you can get the serviced or something? the tonearms need to be balanced and tightened up and stuff and i don't really want to and know how to do it myself, is it worth it? is it possible? should i do it myself?
also want to "represent" (yo) SONAR xl version 2 as a music production tool, it fucking rocks, i've been working on it for awhile, and for people thinking on getting cubase or logic, have a look coz its cheaper and you get a wicked drum synth (dr-008) and some very cool dxis (cyclone), and on the net, you can get it for a steal.
thanks for your help all

i also use Sonar 2XL and its worth every cent
for me, cubase didnt offer enough strength in audio manipulation and editting and sonar fit in there nicely
plus its generally more stable, and does away with a vast majority of features i wasnt using anyway
also i like making studioware panels/setups to interface my gear alittle easier, and the dreamstation soft-synth isnt too bad. has a few bugs that render it almost unusable for me for the most part but it still has potential
oh and for those who arent aware, sonar 2XL is a big big improvement from earlier version... from the way you use DXi's (a special rack now, now annoying right-clicking etc etc) to bug fixes
a good tool, a good DAW

SONAR TUTORIALS BY COMPUTER MUSIC
pretty basic but you can never skimp on the basics right.... worth a read for even the seasoned Sonar heads
hopefully will get into detail in the coming issues

do you have any easy quick tips for controlling soft synths (suchas dream station) with a hard ware midi controller?

yeah well if you tell me what controller you have i can help
also what do you know about Midi CC messages?
basically theres a bunch of ways to set up controls depending on which synth and what program.
in simplest terms you need a basic knowledge of midi messages and how to assign your controller, and what the appropriate midi controllers in the synth are
ie, something like Reason is simple to control, but Native Instruments synths like Pro-52 you need to know the mapped cc's.
i have them on charts though. dreamstation shouldnt be too hard to map.

hi man
thanks for your reply. i have a miditech mini-contro,l 2 octive midi keyboard, otherwise known as oxygen 8 if your english or have a usb connection. its got 8 assignable knobs, which i just generally wack on to the main volume of the tracks i'm working in sonar.
midi in general is something of a mystery to me, i confess, when assign one of the knobs it asks for a paramenter number and a controller/or channel number, what's the difference? and how do i find out these charts so i can send messages from my knobs straight there.
we should all send messages straight from our knobs
thanks for your help
