Hey, at the moment I use my Edirol m80 controller to change various parameters within Traktor - basskill, crossfader, levels, effects and so on.

Its all fine for two channels, but by the time I start loading up 3 & 4, its gets to be a pain having to use the mouse.

So I am wondering what do other people use? I was having a quick look around the interweb at other controllers and saw the Novation Zero SLMK2 Midi Controller. Looked pretty good - lots of knobs, sliders, and even a cross-fader.

Does anyone have experience of this or something similar?

Cheers,

G

try looking at a DJ-specific controller, probably more suited to your needs

but he said he uses crosfader etc, therefore x1 is useless, look at the new reloop controller. from memory it has faders etc, but cant member as i had already ordered my x1 so over looked it

Kind of on the same topic...
I'm trying to use my MPD32 to control effects/looping in Torq, but it doesn't seem to be able to read it? I right click whatever function I want and turn the corresponding knob on the MPD but it won't change.

Anyone know how to do this?

if you use only two decks, i made a pretty good mapping for the akai lpd8 - saves me from buying the X1 (at 1/2 of the price!)

http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13334

full two deck controls - simple and easy to use - its covers everything from effects, looping, beatjumps, hotcues etc you do need an external mixer tho (like the x1)

I use my x1 for track selection, looping, fx
korg nanopad for cue points etc and my mixer for fader and eq control
works an absolute treat

you need to do some learning about midi!

yes yes you're right.. but i've looked all over the webz and the torq forums but i still can't find the answer. i figured if it can be done with a trigger finger why not an MPD?

it can definitely be done with an mpd!

from your brief description it would sound like your mpd isn't broadcasting midi on the correct channel for torq to receive or vice-versa. start by getting that sorted!

Hi Again,

thanks for all the advice.

I looked at the X1 and the reloop. I guess I'm after somehting that would give me maximum control over as many of the Traktor parameters as possible - with minimum use of the keyboard/mouse.

The Novation zero SL MkII (http://www.novationmusic.com/products/midi_controller/zero_sl_mk_ii) looks pretty good, but I've found nothing about its use with Traktor. Its not too badly priced, but still $350-400. I'm nervous as I haven't DJed for a quite a while (vinyl really expensive, and nowhere to buy it in Canberra), and am only really getting back into it now that I've found Beatport.

So have anyone used the novation? Or even better used with Traktor?

Thanks again.

Cheers. i had a look at the Vestax stuff. i've had Vestax mixers for the last 15 years, love them; but are very $$$ - 3 times the novation.

Hadn't thought about Better Music. I'll give it a go.

Heya,
Didn't wanna start a new thread and this was on the same vein. I haven't got my laptop yet, so I haven't been able to mess around with Traktor settings. But I was wondering if these 2 scenarios would work, before I went out and bought equipment, and what would need to be fixed if there was a problem in either of the setups.

Equipment:
-Macbook Pro
-Numark Stealth Control
-Novation Nio 2|4
-Any Mixer
-Any Headphones
-Any PA/Speakers

External mixer
Cue and Master run out of the mixer
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/5691/scenario1.jpg

Then switching to this if I didn't have a mixer around (Traktor internal mixer controlled through the stealth)
Cue and Master from the Novation Nio 2|4
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/3516/scenario2.jpg

The 1st scenario would be for playing at a club which has a mixer. The 2nd scenario is for a very mobile laptop, soundcard, controller and headphones kind of rig if I was just heading to a mate's place or something.

+1 for presentation

and yes, both those scenarios would work perfectly :thumb:

just be sure; that in traktor, you have everything being output into the channel you want it output on on the sound card

good communication leads to good answers :)
(although it did take me 10 minutes longer than typing some crappy explanation out)
