I just burnt a live set onto CD from an mp3.
The CD when placed in a CD player displays the total running time (approx 76 mins). When I press play it starts to play - but THERE'S NO SOUND! Complete silence!
Has this ever happened to anyone before? Have I missed something? Obviously the track is there because the CD player recognises its presence and registers a track length. So why can I not hear anything?
Please help!

YES!!!! the exact same thing happened to me on the weekend. I think it has something to do with verifying the written data. Rest assured the ITM tech gurus will soon be here with an answer:D
Be careful with that silence! John Cage might just try to sue you for copyright infringement (http://www.uncoveror.com/nothing.htm)
 :tripping:

A "soundies" worst nightmare.
Need to know more info though to determine what happend.
1. Obviously the .MP3 file plays back OK on your PC?
2. When you burnt it to CD did you burnt it as a .cda file (standard CD file format) or as an .mp3. If it was burnt as a .mp3 does your CD player recognise .mp3 format? The track may be there but the CD player can't decode it.
Let me know more about your steps that you took?!

If the cd player picks up the track length then it has already decoded the TOC. What program did you use and when you burn direct mp3's onto an 'Audio CD' project, then it automatically converts the files for you.
Was it one large live set mp3 file around 100 or so MB, maybe the file was too big uncompressed for the CD capacity and could not close the CD, therfore having an open CD. Open CD's will spin as if they are being read, when infact it has just run out of track lenght. Try editing and shortening the mp3 or wav file before burning it.
More info would be alot more helpful also.

yeah, you have to understand that CD-Burners are cheap little devices that do the job of dedicated machinery costing tens of thousands of dollars, they are liable to fuck up every now and then.
I'm surprised they actually work as well as they do.
