View Full Version : Serato/Traktor using CDJ 800 mk1

Hey all!
I'm currently thinking of purchasing either the Serato SL3 or Traktor Pro for my CDJ 800's MK1. Now the problem that I have been hearing is that there are restrictions on what will work with the CDJ's. This pretty much includes the Loop function, Master Tempo, Cue, etc...
It doesn't really make much sense that the loop feature becomes useless as the CD's are time coded. I can understand the Master Tempo not working, but I still don't have any concrete evidence that it does work!
I'm going crazy wanting to buy it, but then again I dont want to be pissed that it doesn't work the way I want it to!
Has anyone got the same 800's working with either Traktor or Serato? If so, does everything work fine? How does it feel using the CDJ's?
Cheers lads, hope I don't get trolled for not knowing this! :P

4Leaf,
Hi rivels_10,
The loop function doesn't work because when using timecoded CD's the deck is reading the timecoded CD's not the actual track. The timecoded CD's have 2 or 3 in it. The first and 2nd track is for playback and the third is for scrolling through tracks. Have a look at some youtube videos.

the 800`s work fine with Traktor, no real point spendinbg the extra for 1000`s - and if your using it you dont need to worry re the lack of cdj looping as you can just do that in the software itself.

the loop function on the cdj should work in traktor, providing you have traktor in absolute mode
^^ that's what i was thinking... but the CDJ800 i think has an auto bar loop, so unless there's a manual loop mode you might be in a bit of trouble.
but traktor's hotcue functions shit from a great height on the CDJ's... especially if you have a little midi controller for launching.

Yea, I've seen some chatter about this absolute and relative mode. So your saying if I use absolute, I can use the auto-loop features?
However, im guessing there is a downside to using this compared to relative mode though. Is there a huge difference?
@ Bracko+. Ive seen some videos of the hot cues in Traktor. Bloody amazing....Hence me wanting to switch to digital so quick!

you can switch between absolute, relative and internal mode whilst playing a track, so it doesn't really matter. I usually leave it in absolute mode when cueing up at certain points and change it over when putting loops (it changes to relative mode automatically when you use traktor's loops)

just tried it then and the autoloops work fine.
but yes, the traktor ones are far better, which is why i use them over the cdj ones :)
