Not that there's anything wrong with it ...
I didn't even think it was an issue. If you're attracted to someone, then it doesn't matter if they're black, white, indian, asian, male, female, tall, fat ... whatever.

its only an issue if you make it one, and then i guess in that case you wouldnt be dating someone of different racial background.
each to there own, i only find it amusing when i see really old aussie men with really young attractive asian girls. It looks wrong... and like they are together for the wrong reasons (this is not always the case tho!)
My last 3 relationships were interracial, its not something I've ever really even thought about though.

My maori mates call them sooty bitches...whites that yearn for a bit of dark meat...despite the fact they enjoy them in small doses..they earn no respect, as they want a type, rather than a specific attraction to a person who happens to be a certain race...I suppose its a similar thing to footy sluts and DJ ho's. If its real then power to them but experience displays the fact that the majority of cases mearly reinforce sterotypes.

What? How many countries have you actually been to? Sorry to burst your bubble, but Australia is far from being the racially tolerant haven of PC-ism that you reckon.
How very American of you.

Even making a deal of it to me sounds *kinda* racist...
My BF is dark & i am white and it has hardly ever crossed my mind! We were best friends for a few years, now were in love. Colour/Race dosent matter....but he is damn hot and hes mine and i love him more than anything!

Big deal, I'm dark and every g/f I've had has been white, but as I grew up in NZ as a kiwi I din't ever consider them "interracial" relationships. Skin colour is totally irrelevant.
I think its a bit more difficult for couples who have different cultural backgrounds as they tend to have different expectations from a relationship, but I've met plenty of couples who've got beyond that.

I think interracial is becoming increasingly meaningless.. my parents are aussie.. one is 5th gen and the other emmigrated.. one is originally swedish, german etc, and the other chinese.. does this mean anyone I date is in an interracial relationship? 8-)
I think cultural identification is a more important issue in relationships, though this doesn't mean it's more important than other differences, like taste in music! ;)

My heritage is very mixed in terms of race, religion and nationality, and I have often dated outside my race and the religion I was born into.
The best relationships I have ever had have all been with people from other cultures and religious background.
I think there is something to be said for mixing things up, that way there is a little bit of everything in all of us.

I am second generation greek, and although my parents are kinda up with the times, my grandparents, alhtough their bodies are here in Australia think that their brains are trapped in ancient greece. Any one thats greek and primarily ethnic know that theres a lot of flack that comes with it. I learnt at an early age that I did not want my life to me a mirror image of my grandmas one where she was forced into an arranged marriage and alot of other form of tradition. There are some traditions that I go along with and then there are some that are totally old skool.
My granpa no longer speaks to me and hasnt for the fact that
1) have tattoos
2) have been living with my partner
3) the whole sex before marriage thing
4) my bf is Aussie
Then they no longer talk to my cousin because she had a child before she was married. I can always remember my grandpa saying that (he is a very bitter and racist person) that he said the would rather me marry a black man before I ever touched a turk ( no offene to either race here these are his views not mine).
So yes there is alot of racism that does exist between these inter cultural relationships.. So you may like to think that things are clear cut and be happy that these people are inter mixing, but the reality is there that there will always be racist people whether you like it or not..
I never would choose to have a greek boyfriend ever.... I know what my brothers were like to girls and wouldnt want to be treated the same way. Greek boys rarely marry aussie girls, they only use them to fool around with before they are ready to settle down, and i wonder how many other cultures males do the same... Any way I got side tracked.
I chose my bf not for his race, but for his money ;)

I don't think it's racist to think about it. If you're intentionally nasty to a particular race of people then it is, but as far as people you're attracted to you have no control over that...
I think inter-racial relationships are only a problem if a partner has cultural baggage which harms the relationship, but that's not really the race's issue, moreso that particular person.

Inter-racial relationships are exactly the same as any other relationship. Although having one can cause some major hurdles to climb as I am finding out now. It seems that Australian Government is quite racist and they don't want to help two loved ones be happy and together yet just enforce their bullshit new legislation from Philip Ruddock.
I find that being in a fully committed inter-racial relationship to me was no different to any other until other parties were involved, so there has been challenges for my partner and I. Australian Government is trying to tear us apart, but it is just making us stronger as a unity.

I must admit I have found half the posts in this thread bloody amusing. I love you Kiwi's even if these moaning Aussies feel so inferior they have to have a dig ;)
My mum was born a Catholic in Northern Ireland. Moved to England when she was young, grew up in England, married a Protestant and changed her religion. Her father didn't speak to her for 4 years, until my oldest sister was born. It's amazing how grandchildren change peoples minds.
I married an Australian Jew of European background.
Not only different religion, but different nationality and background, from a class point of view. Guess what, we couldn't be happier. You don't have to marry someone from the same background to make it work.

Whats an Australian anyway? Someone of Aus-Aboriginal descent, someone whose great-great-grandaddy sailed in on the Endeavour a couple of centuries ago, I don't know, who? Personally, I find the sheer variety of different shapes, cultures, colours and sounds of human beings beautiful and stimulating. Modern genetic theory suggests the mixing of a wide variety of genes produces healthier/more robust offspring. Fan-fekkin-tastic! Bring on the worldwide shenanigans!

My bf is muslim and im not (he is also black - me white) it has created a lot of problems in our relationship - such as the fact we cant spend the night with each other etc etc. his parents know about me, but he cant push the acceptance issue with them too far, or they are likely to kick him outa the house. anyways, my theory is that if you love each other enough you can get through it together and if you can get though that you can get through anything......
I would just like to say.... how can anyone seriously judge someone based only on their skin colour or religion????

A friend's ex-b/f had to choose between her and his family/religion, he chose family. It's sad really and I think it puts a real strain on those Australian youths with ethnic backgrounds, they didn't choose to be born into this! It cuts down the pool of people with whom you are allowed to find love with.

I totally support interracial relationships.
I've never had a problem with them, and can't understand people who do. Each to their own.
Although until recently I've never been attracted to a girl of another race. About 10 months ago I was sort of seeing a Korean girl. And I am currently involved with a girl from the Cook Islands.
I am totally enfactuated with her and I can't remember feeling this way about someone before.
I don't claim to know what love is, I think I'm far too young to know that, but what I do feel is pretty damn strong.
She just left for the the islands for 8 weeks on fri. I'm going nuts already.:~( :~( :~(

A friend's ex-b/f had to choose between her and his family/religion, he chose family.
Don't be too harsh on those who have to make this choice. It's such a hard and painful one to make. Coming from a very religious background I would have to say that i think the impact of a fanatical religious background is huge
I've been friends with people from a variety of cultures and never experienced any problems or confusion from it but the religion thing always makes me feel like such a freak
Any difference can be overcome in the end but noone should have to choose between family and anything.
I decided to live my own life even tho' I thought that meant no family and whilst my family decided to continue speaking to me in the end - it was such a painful experience - I wouldn't wish it on anyone and I know that I could never choose no family for 'love' - not a big enough reason.................not for me anyway - but then I don't really believe in everlasting love. Love comes and goes so it seems a bad gamble to choose love over family.
For me anyway.

Being a born and bred Tasmanian, I have never really found any problems in this regard, although sometimes it takes a little while for someone to get used to my extra fingers and toes.

Usually the product of two different races is better than with just one race. Dun ask how it happens, ask scientists. Most of the cross-breds take the best of both worlds. Although this has been said b4 it's so true.
But yea i think that race shouldn't be a matter......as the saying goes "love has no boundaries or barriers" (If this is a saying).

Just as a question: Why would people have a problem with it? Two people are two people are two people.
For someone to pass any kind of negative opinion on this makes them unbelievably self-righteous. If someone is racist enough to believe that mixed-race couples are wrong then that's their problem, but if they are then compelled to pass that opinion onto a mixed-race couple it makes them extremely self-righteous. Who has got the right to comment on other people's relationships like their opinion is absolute.
As it was previously stated I really do think Australia is really relaxed on the racist thing though. I swear Britian isn't. I grew up in a village with NO other races. Purely British middle and upper classes. Went to a college of 2000, in my year of 800 people we had 3 blacks and 10 asians! It's a bit scary to think that the white british dominated.
I'm totally for inter racial relationships. The guy I am seeing at the moment isn't my race and I have dated other races before. I see there is no problem.
It's fair enough if you dont find certain races attractive, thats personal taste but anyone who has a problem with interracial relationships has a problem!

All the people here who have said "Oh, it never crossed my mind" are lying, or missing out .....it kinda pisses me off.... Not making an issue about it, and not thinking its a bad thing does not = not ever thinking about it.....its like when people say "Oh, were all the same" (as in no matter what race).... thats not true, we are all different, and thats what makes the world such a beautiful place... so if u really dont ever think about it, maybe u should, u could learn something :)

I had friend who was half Japanese, half American.
When he orgasmed, he didn't know whether he was coming or going.
This joke will only be potentially funny to those who speak Japanese and English.

...inter-racial relationships are fine, if you love someone you love them for who they are, not for their race. My ex-fiance is Croat, I'm Latvian, I'm white as white and he's very very dark. Before him I was with an Armenian, before that a Scott, and others I've been attracted to in the past were Spanish, Greek, Italian etc...
...I think religion plays a bigger role than nationality. It took a few years to be accepted by my ex-fiances family because I was not in their religion, but because I respected them and their religion (didn't help my ex WASN'T in the religion either!!) they finally made me part of their family.
...but IMO, I think religion can cause more problems than race can...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't orgasm mean "died and gone to heaven" to the Japanese.
If so, somewhere in Sydney, hidden in a dark room, staring at a computer screen, Naoki giggles like a busty blonde school girl.

Likewise!
My mum's an old skool Russian type and she brought me up with "youre going to meet a nice Russian girl arnt you?"
now neither me or my sisters have ever dated any Russians, and my mum's totally fine with that, but sometimes when we see the old religious Russian grandma's (Babooshka's) they look at our partners and theyre like "ohhh...she australian" as if theyre of lesser class.

I chose my bf not for his race, but for his money ;)
this sounds just like my big fat greek wedding!! and sorry if someone else has said this i haaent read the whole thread!
Eurasian kids are really ... really really goodlooking
But like all races.. theres always a couple of bad eggs :p
My cousin (asian) married his highschool girlf (aussie) and my uncle kicked a stink. There was a family uproar as everyone sided against him. Its been about 4 years now.. and the family are getting along, but he doesnt talk to his son or his daughter-in-law :(
After this happened.. it sorta brought it out in the open within my own family. My dad always threatens to send me over to Hong Kong to marry me off, but mum knows that i wouldnt match their expectations of a "good wife". They're pretty liberal which is kool.. because I've never really looked twice at asian guys.. they're all so nerdy or too funboy! :p
I prefer dark hair (although i always end up with blonds :meh: ), with a good hairdo, nice arms & hands with a dress sense no better than mine - can anybody hook a brutha up? :-D
