I am unsure of which way to go as i will soon be possibly purchasing

1- should i get the DJM 600, as it has pretty much everything i want including effects..

2- Would i be better off using my existing mixer & getting a seperate effects processor - would that workout cheaper than the DJM 600 ..

Also do i need 3 channels to use effects + 2 decks

I went through this a while back. Ended up throwing in the towel because it all got too frustrating and hard. As everyone will give you there own opinion. personally .....

1. I had trouble switching from the turntable, to the mixer, to the EFX 500 (the only one i really looked at). I guess with practice you'd get better, but with average mixing skills i had a fair bit of trouble.

2. I was told by more than a few peope that the DCM 600 was over-priced. The mixer doesn't have full kill, and the FX are delayed. I have no idea, because as soon as i found out the price i backed away, very slowly.

anyways I hope that helped. I felt i didn't know enough to make the right decision, and too many people were fuking me around... maybe in a year or two i'll look at buying them.

true , it is pretty pricey, & if the effects are delayed, i would imagine a seperate effects would be the way to go

The 600 is a very nice mixer. I bit the bullet and bought one and have had no regrets. You shouldn't have the need for another mixer for a long time. The EQ's are extremely strong so you do get full kills on the rotary pots. The sound quality is pretty damn good and the effects are usable, fun and of decent quality. I haven't found the processing or switching time of the effects to be a real problem. It's not perfect but I doubt you'll have many gripes. As a combined mixer/fx unit it doesn't have a whole lot of competition either, though Dave Clarke is apparently working on a design with Tascam.

Have a play with one in a shop and see what you think. As for parting with one arm and half a leg, I can't help you there.

DJM600's are wonderful. expensive, yes, but worth every cent imho. the effects aren't delayed, they're realtime and controlled by pots that give(to all intents and purposes) instant response. you twist, you hear the resulting tweak.

the EQ's are easy to use, once you've played around with them you'll rapidly learn to hate cutoffs that don't let you fade in or out. give the pot a quick flick from 0 to 9 and it sounds like hitting a switch anyway.

Out of 4 clubs playing "proper" dance music in my town, 4 of them have DJM600's in the middle of the desks. I think that says a lot.

sure they cost a bomb, but you get a pro-quality 4 chan mixer AND a top of the range effects unit in one package. Do the maths, it ends up being a sound investment. I reckon if you can get one and don't, you're mad!

ps. if you want to get back some of what you paid for yours, rent it out to a club that doesn't have one *grin*
