:::::: H.P.S? ::::::

Gavan Griffin a.k.a H.P.S? has been producing and DJing for six years
and playing live for four years. His preferences include the harder
edged styles of techno and trance, plus really funky hip hop grooves.
HPS? has been involved in music and P.A. for as long as he can
remember, "having both parents and grandparents activly involved in
music - My father is a bass player and sound engineer who owned his
own P.A., my mother was a lead singer and would you believe a DJ as
well and my grandmother was a band conductor and music teacher, it
was natural progression for me to be involved as well..."

HPS? has played quite a few DJ and live sets around the Sydney club
and party scene, supporting some of the U.K's leading techno DJs and
live acts including D.A.V.E the Drummer (twice),
Julian Liberator (twice), Chris Liberator and Zebedee (twice) at the
infamous SWARM parties with Mat Fisher on percussion as Matchewee.
He's also played alongside Adelaides' DJ Bold from High Octane/Vast
Recordings, Melbournes' DeeDee of Teriaki Anarki Saki fame, and at
Freaky Loops 2001 at Bondi Pavillion, plus a number of outdoor trance
and techno parties.

The H.P.S ? live rig consists of a Roland MC 303, Akai s3000xl and
s01 samplers, Yamaha Cs1x, Mackie 1602 mixer,,Pioneer efx 500, Alesis
compressor and a host of 'stomp' boxes for efx.

"I don't believe in using DATs or hard disks in a live situation. I
use my 303 to do live structuring and manipulation of a track adding
effects on the fly that way I can make a set to suit how the crowd is
reacting and I never know what shape the set is going to take so the
arrangements are pretty adlib-ed. In the studio I use Cubase VST with
my midi setup aswell as a Pulsar recording soundcard, Soundforge,
Fruity Loops, Reason and Vaz soft synths and heaps of VST and Direct
X plug ins."

HPS? has released 2 live mix cd's 'Year of the Filter' in 2000
and 'Geosynthetic'. He plays live and DJs frequently on 2SER 107.3fm
[http://www.2ser.com.au] radio as well on a show called Kaoscilations
with Vic and DJ 2hard on Thursday evenings - which is a great
opporunity to air his latest tracks. He's also aired on Radio DEX
during their test transmission and 2RSR radio Skid Row.

HPS?' influences stem from 70's funk, James Brown, The Meters,
Average White Band and early East Coast hip hop such as KRS One,
Stetsasonic, Showbiz, AG and Public Enemy. From his involvement with
the Sydney underground dance scene he's grown to appreciate the likes
of Jeff Mills, Pounding Grooves,D.A.V.E the Drummer, Cari Lekebusch,
Umek, Devilfish, Ben Simms and The Geezer on labels such as RAW,
F.A.R, Bush, Mute, Smitten, Eukatech, Wetmusik and Blueprint to name
a few.

If you would like to know more about HPS? don't hesitate in emailing
him at hps@noisebox.com or check out a recent interview on

:::::: Synetik ::::::

Tune in to Pulse Radio this Sunday 23rd September, to catch three of
the most recent tracks from Synetik - "Hurricane", "Antartica"
& "Ransom Note" as well as a selection of songs from his previous
release "The Inner Workings". The new tracks are from an upcoming
album being released later this year (working title is 'Brisbane').
It will also feature remixes (& be engineered) by Mode and will
hopefully be available on vinyl.

Visit the Queensland Drum'n'Bass site http://www.voodoobreaks.com for
latest updates. You can also preview the latest songs from Synetik at
the Voodoobreaks website, and join the maillist to find out more
about releases and drum'n'bass events in Brisbane.

[bio taken from http://www.voodoobreaks.com]
After living in Melbourne and growing up on a staple diet of hip-hop,
Synetik (David Mason) moved to the Gold Coast in Queensland,
Australia in 1992. Within weeks of arriving, he discovered a
legendary night club amongst the commercial glitz that was pushing
interesting and exiting new sounds. The club was called 'The Tunnel'
and the sounds they were playing were the early beginnings of what is
now classed as 'Electronic Music'.

Fascinated by this new form of urban music, Synetik began his journey
of musical discovery & experimentation, exposing him to the sounds of
2 Bad Mice, The Prodigy, Rob Playford, Future Sound of London,
Lionrock, Meat Beat Manifesto, Kraftwerk, Juan Aitkins and more...

In 1997, Synetik started programming drum machines for a small hip-
hop group. Later, his experimentation with sampling led to the
creation of experimental breakbeat-trance, jungle, drum'n'bass and
electro.

These days, Synetik keeps busy promoting and working in the
Drum'n'Bass scene in Queensland, Australia through his DJing and
Producing. His unique style of Drum and Bass has been well received
localy and abroad. 'Biotechnology' (Inner Workings) shot to the top 5
position in the Australian Digital music charts in March 2000 (The
first time for a jungle/d&b track) and was shortly after featured on
SBS TV (Alchemy) as well as being used for background music for 'The
Snow Show' on Sky TV & Channel 7.

Recently, his track 'Bounty Hunter Chase' was selected to feature on
the massively popular 'Boba Fett Fan Club' website - exposing
Synetik's sound to tens of thousands of Star Wars fans.

Discography:
1997 SONIKA - with brother Stephen Mason
1999 Mark Duckworth's 'Mind Libraries'. Final production and secret
track by Synetik (under the moniker of Sonika)
2000 The Inner Workings - With Shane B
