As we all know that there are some pretty good club nights out and about, Flares, Lucid, System 6 plus many others.

But if there was a new night, what would you guys like to see ?

Styles of music, DJ's (local, interstate, internationals???) venues ? or even better still, what would get you guys along ? free stuff, CD Launches ?

Please let me know.

cheers

quality/classy venue with an excellent sound system - not too big but not too small......with top progressive house dj's in main room and maybe some breaks or deep house in the second room

local DJ's i might be a bit biased but interstate Kasey Taylor, Ben Korbel, Trent Anthony, Chris Fresh, Mark Di Cristo.......off the top of my head.

No need for free stuff, give aways, cd launches or any of that crap. That sounds way too much like the crap that wild fm would have done.

I agree with Jay P in terms of venue, sound etc, but please not progressive!!! (sorry Jay P - I know its your thing).

Actually what I think Brisbane needs is an afternoon club - either at say 3pm on saturday or earlier on a sunday. We have the best weather here and it is a big shame to let it go to waste. Maybe look at some non-traditional venues for something like that. Something on the river would be nice.

Cheers

Hey Jay P, the illustrious Mr. Shadrach has whispered a few exciting Sunday afternoon ideas into my ear, so perhaps you two should hook up on this one?

As for a good event, taking advantage of our climate and geography is a must! Obviously good music which is slightly different from what gets hammered in the clubs, is required, plus an obsessive attention to detail and correctly branding the event. People want to feel spoilt so work on low cost ideas to make them feel appreciated.

I want to hear something different for a change. Every club I go into seems to me to have the same sort of sound playing, some annoying sounding house music that never seems to change. I go into The Monastry, Mantra, that crappy Russian club down near the zoo and empire hotel, and all I can hear is house music or something along those lines. You may think i don't know what I'm talking about, but I know what I like, and I'm not ectatic about what some of the clubs in the valley have to offer.

I would like to see a club that plays Garage music, trance or even chillout music, where I can go and relax. Basiclly something really different from what i have heard in most of the clubs I've been in.

I like the idea of a Sunday afternoon thing, that'd be good.

Can't wait for Advent*jah.

C ya,

Bigsvenie.

Actually all those selections sound really good, how about a club that caters for all that music with an extended liscence so it can for a long f*&^%E# time....eg open 10am on like saturday then close 6/7pm the next day or something like that (is that possible up here anyway) and play differnt choons at different times....eg chilled out beats going into house then proggy and breaks and back again or something like that..you get the drift...but yeah...just a thought

Glad to hear everyone is looking for a little Sunday recovery action! Caus' as it happens one has been organised for after the Advent'jah festival and will be the first in a series of events called "Summa-Shining". The theme is tropical and the music is progressive/ house- set within the oasis of the fortitude valley pool- cool venue hey. The event will be fully licensed, also masseuses and playstation 2's will be in the chill out room- what way to pass a Sunday.

Detailed info on the event is getting released at the beginning of November so look out for it- it sounds way cool and should pump.

re: bigsvenie

crappy russian club? The Moskva bar certianly can be really good sometimes. go down there tonight (friday), and you can see what i mean. a couple of norwegian dj's playing there tonight. But apart from that, i agree..it's pretty much crappy. relatively cheap drinks though (compared to monastery/family etc.)

what about getting some solar panels together to power decks etc at the beach or in a park if there's no power and u don't want a noisy generator.

Ahhhhhh the Moskva Bar!!!

Its tiny - my kitchen is bigger than thier dancefloor.

Its tacky - I think some kindy kids did the interior design by using toilet rolls, newspaper and some crayons.

It also has crap sound and has never had a decent vibe from what I have experienced.

and Norweigen DJ's - really who gives a @!#$! There are plenty of better Aussie DJs within 2 minutes walk of that place.

hey bigsvenie,
have u ever tried the matrix? i was getting the same sort of feelings about the valley until i visited this old friend. sure its changed hands many times, sometimes to the detriment of the club - but lately on a saturday night it has been going off. its got good a/c (a must in this weather), comfy couches, and quality local dj's. i'm hooked.

Im always open minded at the start of the night. But I dont have a problem bagging a club/night/dj if i end up dissappointed at the end of the night. Joys of free speach dude!

Re undadainfluence

Yeah, I've been to The Matrix a couple of times (not lately though). It looks really pretty and I like the music they play, but it has no atmosphere. I have been in there even when there has been a crowd, and it is just really lacking something. Also I have gotten bad attitudes from the staff before, so I have no real ambition to go back anytime soon. I like the atmosphere of the Empire Hotel, pity the music's a bit boring.

What do you think?

depends on what you class as atmosphere. if you need a club to be brimming full to have an atmosphere i disagree, i sorta like it coz it is not as packed as the monastery and the beat. re: the staff, i know that that is an area they have been improving - and i see some new faces behind the bar, and all are friendly and receptive. you should try it again one saturday night and i think you'll be pleasantly surprised. i think the atmosphere of a club is proportional to the energy of the dj's set, and how that energy transforms to the punters - everytime thier resident female dj takes the decks i cant stop movin and groovin. ...my two cents anyway.

Chilled beats. Deep relaxing house (not too progressive). Sunday afternoon. I'm tired of playing my CDs in my house on a Sunday afternoon while recovering, I want someone else to do the work for me! :P

Anyone who's been to Lazy Dog will know the score: 3pm - midnight Sundays. It's the perfect way to wind down after going hard Saturday night.

If something like this were to pop up, I would definitely be there!

Lazy Dog is the club run by Ben Watts of (Everything but the girl) and Jay Hannan, in Notting Hill, UK. They released a Lazy Dog CD early this year which showcased the style of house they play at their club. Bloody awesome it was too. Jay's CD with a more latin tip to his house selection. Kerry Chandler's "Isis" is my pick of tracks...a killer! anyways...rambling on there...lazy dog is apparently a very good club! :)

Def check out the Lazy Dog CD, it is wicked! And the club would make a great template for an arvo thang here... it is so relaxed and the vibe from the place is amazing, considering it is pretty much in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world!

(Sorry I didn't mention where it is :)

Definitely, something to take advantage of our climate would be good, with the ability to transfer inside if the weather goes head. I would love to chill out by a pool or the river and hear some downbeat house and relaxed progressive/trance-y stuff (Parks & Wilson essential mix type stuff springs to mind :)

Oops, I'm rambling. @!#$ hot idea, though, this recovery thing.
