I got it last night and its a must if your a London Boy like me! Being able to drive around 40k's of London is wicked I popped over to my Dad's work but he didn't come out to say hi :( so then went down to Soho! I don't know how considering all the shit with GTA but there is a strip club scene, guess this will be censored soon enough! A few control/camera issues like with the Resident Evil series due to 3rd person view. But still fun if you like being a London Gangsta!

Guy in shop described it as Lock Stock that you control. Gonna get it on Friday. Would've bought today but had deposit on GTA VC which is OK but not as ground breaking as GTA 3. Still top fun though.

top game. nicely realistic, no ammo meter, no health bar, no map, just you and tonne of tuff bastards wanting you dead. love being able to take cops hostage.

I really want to play this game.. I have heard it's really realistic... Is it better than GTA VC if anyone has played both ?

the getaway is a very hard game and is alot more along the lines of real time gangsters.. you do have to think and sought out your plane before going into any mission.. only promblem is there is no free roaming untill you finish the game witch might take some time..

vice city is just plan fun

this game was a work of art until charlie's mansion mission.

then it just got painful. grrr.. towards the end of mr hammonds missions, its almost impossible to drive without the cops on you which is very annoying...

ive just started dc carters missions... the last few hammond missions were just annoying as fuck. its like the game designers were trying to make it longer by just adding in stupidly annoying puzzles

anyway its a good game, but has its niggles...
great story, annoying as fuck camera...

as for GTA:VC vs The Getaway, they're completely different games. they may 'look' the same, but they're as alike as tomb raider and GTA3. just rent it from your local video shop and have a go. if you're not into it after the first mission or two, then it aint for you.

GTA VC
- has motor bikes
- has more cars
- is loaded with tongue in cheek humour and over the top extravagance
- is tough

Getaway
- has no motor bikes
- is so damn realistic that a few bullets take you down
- has just a few weapons, and you have a to drop a heavy one to pick up new pistol ammo
- is damnably hard
- is honestly closer to a movie / game than anything else I've played except FFX

Just finished the DC carter missions, I agree those hammond ones with the laser beams were reaching in a major way, I really like how the missions between the two were very distinct and fit so well into the storyline ... there wasn't too much repetition of "oh I have to go do this as DC instead of Hammond"

I will be finishing my review and writting up my press kit and media copy for sale shorty, interested parties PM me and I'll send the link to Sold.com.au auction - its a fab metal tin with an A-Z of london as an instruction manual, a lock of the kids hair and polaroids of the boy. Very impressive indeed.

having finished the game this is what i have to say...

great concept
brilliant execution
moments of sheer genius

let down by crappy 3rd person shooter cliche's ( oh look, its a room full of traps that you have to negotiate ), moments of stupid dificulty and mind numbing aggravation, a camera that is just not suitable for the tight indoor work you need to do to finish the game and perhaps the most frustratingly anti-climatic ending in video game history ( i just killed half a million people for THAT?)

this came close to being something really really special. it did all the hard things right (story, character, technical achievement), but fluffed the simple things (like the camera and the awkward car controls) .
