I'm looking to get some Website Hosting, i've looked around for some good Australian hosts and the best ive found so far is this site (http://www.value-hosting-australia.com/index.html). they seem pretty good and im looking at the second plan here (http://www.value-hosting-australia.com/plan2.html). Is this any good can you find anywhere cheaper? I thought it was good.

What do you want to use the website for and how much space will you be using? (MB wise obviously)

Well i have started a Case Modding/Computer Hardware site but its running off Ausgamers free hosting right now while i figure everything out. I havent used all my 10mb yet so not much but i have no Articles etc etc writin on the site yet and i think 50mb of size should be enough.. i could always move it to a second site and link if i need to..

Is this a hobby site or something serious?
Are you going to go head-to-head with other Australian sites like Dans Data (http://www.dansdata.com/) and OCAU (http://www.overclockers.com.au)?
Are you doing something that hasn't been done before, if not, how are you going to do it better?

issues i would be very suprised if your site even used 10mb of space the average page of a site should be less then 80k ... 1000k in a Mb... and u got 10 ...U do the math....

ive made sites with 20 plus pages, using flash and animated gifs and shit, and it can still fit on a floppy disk

Yea it is going to be serious, not trying to be as big as OCAU and DansData yet, i love both of there sites and wouldnt want to get into competition with them.. not sure wat im doing different yet.

ressurecting this thread. Anyone recommend a host 2 years on? It'll for posting photos and my sets so im thinking 100mb will be the minimum.

You will be hosting sets AND photos?

Your going to need a lot more than 100mg, but the space isnt your problem, bandwidth is what your going to pay $$ for depending on how much traffic you expect?

out of interest what plans are you guys on and what do you use it for?? Wouldn't expect to much traffic, just ITMers and other trance fans downloading monthly sets & ppl viewing limited photos.

US$3.95 a month gets you 10 gig online at canaca.com (http://www.canaca.com) and 200 gig of bandwidth. should be way more than enough for all of your shite. if you want mysql go the next plan up.

australian web hosting is a joke. way too expensive and it's illegal to host porn in the country.

i use and reccomend www.quadrahosting.com.au
they have the multi-domain option, allows you to resell the space if you dont end up using it..

obviously choose a US based unix server for the cheaper price...

i recommend www.powweb.com
at the time of looking around, they offered the best value and you can have 5 MySQL databases.
besides, if you do go with them ask me for the referral (http://www.powweb.com/PowWeb/Company/Partnerships/Referral) name and i'll gladly give it to you. ;)

the good thing about Powweb is there's a huge User Forum that can help you with your queries, which other Webhosting companies have lacked.

i did have a look at www.canaca.com a few years back, but they seemed a little 'unprofessional' with their website, policies, etc. but if i had another go, i'd probably choose them because of the price/features.

Australian webhosting companies usually re-sell those webhosting packages from the US.
