It's official!!!
From the people that brought Sydney the most talked about day event last easter with Fatboy Slim and also the massive New Years Day 2001 with Sonique, Global bring you Sundance.
On New Years Day 2002, there is going to be a party at a venue that has never been used for this type of event before. It will be on the Brisbane River and it will have a large outdoor and a good indoor area. The Day is going to be set up along the lines of Space in Ibiza with the outdoor area being the Terrace and hosting such acts as the Freestyelers (Worlds number 1 breaks crew), Terry Farley (Farley and Heller 'Big Love') and Mr. Groovejet himself, Spiller.
The Indoor room (name TBC) will host DJ Heaven (Number 1 Female DJ), Dj Tom (Top German Trance DJ - a la Paul Van Dyke,) Pee Wee Ferris (no intro needed) and 10 of the best DJ's Brisbane and the Gold Coast have to offer.
Also confirmed for this event will be Australia's number 1 UK Garage Crew, Garage Pressure who will be dropping the smoothest garage for all the sexy people who want to chill and be cool.
Put New Years Day in your diary as a day not to be missed... so why spend a fortune on New Years Eve, fight for taxi's at day break and miss a good night out with friends when you can get a suntan, listen to some of the best DJ's in the world that are in Australia at the time and get that Ibiza bug!!!
Advertising begins late next week, so keep your eyes peeled!!
Peace

What happened to Morales?!
do people still pay to see pee-wee?
:(
why go interstate?
two words:
field day
:p
but if i was going to be in brisbane i would go to that!!! ;)
Yes. People still pay to see peewee. They even pay for his mix sets, too! But I suppose that someone, somewhere, thinks he's a fcuking god. To each their own - I think he lost that "special" touch around '99, when he started trying to sound like a Gatecrasher CD.
His early stuff rocked, though - DJ's Down Under vol 1 used to make my speakers bleed! :)
Am I blind, or has advertising not yet started for this? It's still on, right? I will be at work NYE, so there had better be some hardcore punters up for it on NYD for me to party with :)

Why go interstate???
um....John Digweed on New Years Eve
and um...yes, Field Day on NYD too.
Yes, perhaps I should cancel the trip!!
NOT!
hey - i hafta werk from 3:30 to midnight nye & nyday (& day after) - anyone know whats goin on in between that i may celebrate the new year with some modicum of fun & enjoyment?
if sanchez isnt startin til after 3:30pm i am gonna lay down & die...
Oh, girlDJ, my heart goes out to you!!! It really does - at least I'm only working NYE. I feel your pain... I'll be starting at midnight and going until 5am Wednesday morning, though!!! Anyone wanna join me? :)
BTW Is it just me, or are there others who think Richard Morel's voice is f**king amazing? It sends shivers down my spine oooohhhh! :)
Organisers need to go and do a marketing degree or something.....?????
You got to get in early.....had we have known about this kind of stuff going on we would have stayed to support beautiful Brissie........but when Gas (Sydney) starts advertising Digweed....a girl just doesn't want to miss out
Cheers to everyone that has a blast in Brz this NYE.... thumbs up to you all...next year grab us all early and we'll be there with you all the way!!!!
If you want to compete you've got to be competitive!
Love D
And one more question...
How can a person be in two places at once?? I mean I know Spiller is a DJ and all but that doesn't make him freakin' David Copperfield. I've just been looking at the line up for Summadayze and they are claiming they have Spiller on the same day that Brisbane is supposedly having him.
What's up with that?
Good luck to everyone... truely hope it is a fab time
It would be great for Briz to go wild :)
Just start that advertising coming or it may be a ghost town nyd

good point there about being competitive. Its a shame that many promoters seem to make some sort of planning/logistics/technical mistake and then angrilly defend criticism of thier event, even though it is often justified.
Yer not meaning to get stroppy or anything. I'm a Brissie defender at the best of times, been here forever.... wouldn't spend @!#$ loads going to every other state if it were a little more switched on here!
Huge need for communication.... Scene does reasonably well... but it needs to be IN YOUR FACE... especially for those of us who have careers (need to, to afford to do everything) and don't have time to sit around searching the net and making connections..
Are you off to Digweed, Gruuvenfunken?
Looking forward... hard to keep mind on the job....not meaning to sound desperate but it has been a while since I've had a big one
Hey Pete Mac...I don't mean no disrespeezy!
Love to hear more about NYD event!!
Got plenty of friends that are staying behind and even a cute little one over from Perth for the festivities. Will let them all know, so start filling us in,yer??!
Bring it on! I have just secured NYD and the day after off! Now I can go 'ard from midnight through to whenever it all wears off :) Wooh!!!
ok youve twisted my arm about the promotion thing.

yeah im off to see diggers at Gas on NYE. If he, or anyone of similair quality (not that there are many who would be) was playing in Brisbane on NYE/NYD then i might stay here. The digweed/field day combo is a winner me thinks ;)

I have some goss from a very reliable source that promoters are attempting to organise Digweed to play at this river NYD Party in vrisbane alongside Sonique and "Spihller"
Well the last scene mag reported that Sonique has quit djing because she is not happy with the clubbing scene (or something to those effects)
Hope promotors have stacks 'o' cash..... question marks over that
But ultra cool if they can pull it off!!! :) Congrats
And Spiller is playing on the same day in Sydney at Feild Day... Correct me if I'm wrong... somebody!!! (nicely though) As I mentioned previously he is cool and great but his name is Spiller not David Copperfield... 2 places at once may prove to be a problem
(I really am very excited for Bris, any any negetive vibes that you are getting from my messages are only because I have paid close to a trillion dollars already to blast off into the new year in Sydney!!! Sucked in to me I guess)

To put everyone speculation to rest.
SPILLER is 100% confirmed to play SUNDANCE
(Spiller is also playing Summadayze in Melbourne and then he's getting on a jet and fly's to Brisbane to rock-it in the sun)
DJ HEAVEN is also 100% confirmed to play SUNDANCE.
See 1st flyer for details / new flyer next week with full line-up and details.
* MORE DJ'S TO BE ANNOUNCED
SUNDANCE - New Years Day
@ The Riverside Centre - 10am til 10pm
Tickets go on sale Thursday for $37.00 + b/f
This will be the without a doubt Brisbanes Biggest NEW YEARS EVENT
That price is GREAT!
Go Brissie, make it amazing, make it easy, make it beautiful, make it inexpensive!
I admire that! It shouldn't cost your life savings just to get into a place that on any other day would be $5 - $10 or even worse- FREE
More details on the River Side Centre....is that Eagle Street Pier??????

Re: Negotiations for Digweed to play - it will be a miracle if Digweed is able to make it, ashe'll be playing a big one at Welcome 2002 before jetting off to play in New Zealand for New Year's Night.
All Digweed fans please take note and don't be too disheartened - you can always go to Sydney or Melb to see him.

Right. Its decided. We're going in!!!! Everyone pack your Vicks Inhalers, Chupa Chups, sexy grins, fluffy boots, stylin manouvres, supa-soaker backpacks and all get your hands up in the air for the RITUAL (SUN)DANCE CLEANSING of the Riverside Centre!
Abandon your riding boots O' lager-soaked-Rowers!! Prepare ye for the groove O' chambray creatures of Fridays! Get thee to the dancefloor O' crafty Riverside Marketers!! For this venue is about to be sanctified!! All make way for the immensity that is... the (SUN)DANCE REVOLUTION of the Brisbane Riverside Centre!! Bring it On!!
Phew... quite early in the day for such catharsis.

tally ho gingerpeachy, all for one and one for all!

precisely dear beebop. theres just loads of concrete and beery chambray clubs.
cover us! we're going in!
Tickets are now on sale @ Central Station, Rocking Horse, Cafe Scene and Cadillac Clothing (down the coast) as of today. Apparantly. It sez that on the flyer, anyway...
I too think it's time these city folk caught a glimpse of what it's all about :) Off with those chambray shirts!!! Begone, foul VB/XXXX, and bring on the Evian!
Oh, no, I am way too excited already... and there's still over 3 weeks until NY ;-)
I'm as confused as beebop where exactly is it being held?
main outdoor arena
2nd outdoor arena
indoor arena and
2nd indoor arena,
thats alot "rena" for lil' ol' riverside. Where are all these arenas? Are we getting airline checkin type barriers to quarter the dance floor at fridays? hehe
I imagine someone with more brain power than lil ol me has thought though all the details - bring it on!!!
it has long space but no wide space....
confused.....but just curious.....i'll be at field day which has lots of space!!! :p
and yes i know this is the second time this thread i have mentioned this but i am just so damn excited!!!
i can't wait to hear about sundance though!! :)

Rockinghorse are all stocked on Sundance tickets - check
Local pharmacy stocked with Vicks Inhalers - check
7-11 double stocked with ChupaChups - double check
JetStar2020 stocked with anti-chambray clobber - check
As for the venue... OK I admit the vision ain't crystal clear to me either, but there is some good flexibility here... consider that Fridays and City Rowers could be 2 indoor venues (if Future are negotiating with them..) or better still kick Vino's out and reclaim the old Grand Orbit space (am I showing my age here?) then you have the strangely shaped outdoor area to play with, complete with terraces and boardwalks and fall-in pools for some pretty mad vista's. I could see DJ booths being set up near the water below the terraces... or up in the area near Rivers and Michaels.
But thats probably just me. See, I could see DJ booths being set up everywhere. On busses, in planes (god bless MoS), trains, automobiles, para-DJing from the sky... welcome to the land of gingerpeachy!!
: - ) cya there. Tim-e I'm expecting a streak from you tiger.

Ahh Gingerpeachy you have a great vision for the future here. If only the earth would open up and swallow all of those beer swilling, brown shoe & belt wearing, "footy mate" types that tend to frequent those venues.
....then it would be good.
Utopia!

Well good to see that the imaginations run just as wild in Brisbane as they do here in Sydney, (gingerpeachy).
Let me put your minds to rest, a group of us here at Global came to Brisbane about 4 weeks ago to look at locations for Sundance. After extensive searching, we came accross the Riverside Centre and could not believe how good the area is. On the river, licenced, easy to control entry and exit points etc etc and should i not forget the large outdoor arena on the RIVER which i would kill to have here in Sydney.
Now i would like you to consider some points:
1. do you think that the people that would normaly frequent these areas would be there on NY Day, i dont think so.
2. If you could name a better spot that can be legally used for this type of event in Brisbane (please let me know), keep in mind sound issues, licenced areas etc. etc.
3. Some of you have expressed concerns that its at City Rowers (its not)??? i went in there and had a look myself and wouldn't put a party on there with someone elses money let alone mine. Most of you might be aware of a venue in Sydney called The Greenwood Hotel in North Sydney, on Sundays it becomes Sounds On Sundays, last year i put a party on there on NYD featuring SONIQUE attracting over 3300 people of the most up for it types we have down here. During the week its a pub/suit bar!!!!
So do you get my point yet!!!! Be open for new ideas up there, thats what will make the scene in Brisbane even stronger.
I promise you this will be a day none of you will forget and the start of bigger and better things for the future in Brisbane. This event will have the closest feeling to a real Ibiza event with its outdoor terrace arena and its indoor club enviroment, hope to c u there dancing in the beautiful sunshine.
Peace
Troy.
You couldn't have said it any better Troy.

07-Dec-01, 05:26pm
All good points there Troy and I think its a great idea.
You should be aware that the area in question is percieved to be the centre of all the things we Brisbane dance people despise about Brisbane yob culture.
Its all a matter of changing people's perceptions though!
Best of luck.
And those perceptions will be changing come NYD... :)
gingerpeachy, look out for a tall dark haired streaker with no sun tan and a delerious look! And don't buy ALL the chupa chups, or at least leave some strawberry and cream ones for me! Anyone for some backflips off the ferry pier?
I'm going to start giggling like a little schoolgirl soon...
Grand Orbit. Now there's a name I haven't heard mentioned for a while. Aah, those halcyon days of snobbing all the rowers/fridays yobbos to cruise up the escalators to that fine establishment. I think of it every time I go to Family :)
