View Full Version : Splinter Cell

After purchasing Splinter Cell and being absolutely blown away by the graphics & gameplay, I had a good 36hrs or so of game time under my belt. Imagine my shock and horror to get home from work yesterday to see my saved game wiped and re-saved at the very beginning of the game!
My housemate swears that nobody was in the house and that he didn't touch it. I believe him 100% but that only leaves the possibility that the X-Box corrupted my saved game? Is this possible?
Anyone else seen similar behaviour?
Weird!
On this topic I highly recommend this game! I saw an ad for it at the movies, checked about a half dozen reviews online and made it my first game purchase... it ROCKS!
cheers
luke
same, it was my fist and only so far game purchase. how good is it!
onlucky about the save game, best thing you could do is go to a friend's and save their savegame onto one of the memory chips, i think you can then use it from there on your own one
love it. bit scary at times though! ;D

i've played splinter cell at a mates place. Unreal. It gives metal gear solid 2 a run for its money )i'm a ps2 owner). Thank god that splinter cell is comming out on ps2!
Poor bastards who bought a xbox for splinter cell

Poor PS2 will never be able to make SC look as good as the Xbox version, but its still a brilliant game and lets hope the geniuses at Ubisoft get it just right.
Never heard of a memory wiping like that, could be a power surge? was there anyother save's lost.
I feel your pain, nothin worse than losing a save after all that work.

Ive never played any of the Metal Gear Solid games, none of the secret agent stealth games actually, but I figured Splinter Cell would be the best place to introduce myself to the genre
All I can say about it is... fuck its hard

I have lost game data off my Xbox... for me it took the whole boX freezing and having to return my console for a new one to whipe it for me but neverless i was pissed!!
Lost all my data for:
Halo - was up to the last level... just getting back there now.
Sega GT 2002 - had game finished, about 30 cars and $300,000 in bank :(
Splinter Cell - only about 4 hours playtime lost.
Dead or alive 3 - had game finished in every mode... not anymore :(
Buffy (it was a freebie through work ok!!??) - had most of the game finished, no biggie though
JSRF - crap game, not fussed about losing all data.

Splinter cell...outstanding, creepy game, specially after a few hot ones.
But indeed, have had many memory card glitches. It doesn't save sometimes, and often wipes other checkpoints in the process.
It's still all good though.
fuck it's good though isn't it. am up to the end of the abbatoir (just after the fridge room - how crazy is that bit - and still i can't stop playing. my life is suffering!! ;D
My mate is an Xbox bigot but he thinks that Metal Gear Solid 2 on my PS2 is a much better game...
Wonder how Splinter Cell on PS2 will be compared to Xbox?
I have not seen Splinter Cell yet, otherwise Id comment on these two points myself.
Hired it from the video store the other day and started playing it bout 5 pm and dint get off till 4 am. Graphics, Gameplay storyline, The whole package is wikid. I havent had any problems with saved games so far but i do know the xbox has been coming up with some problems.

Great game pity about the voice overs /acting... of all the people they had to hire Micheal ironside. He would have best been down with his career in V.
but i agree the gameplay is great -- Graphics prity ho hum
oooooooo i'm up to the presidential palace

I've had halo for a while and havent played it for ages and only have two levels left to complete, library on the hardest and the other one where you start on the ground and get beamed into the ship half way throught. atm i've just been beamed and got a checkpoint AFTER all my men were killed!!! doh.
neway was wondering for those of you who have finished what is the best way to complete the library and the other level as they are so hard.
also DOA3 is so boring you can complete that in 3-4 hours and buffy is ok if you like the series but gets a bit repeditative.
i wish they'd hurry up and give us more levels! such a good game, but they need to make the enemy more random to increase the replayability.
who else has finished it?

yeh its a good game, i dont think its great though.... graphics are unbelivable but its a play once experience.... i had it ... almost finished.... (i was at the point in the last level getting out of elevator in the library) but couldnt be bothered finishing it... i prefered ghost recon a HELL of alot more, that game is wicked.... the outdoor levels do anyway... specially the ones wif tanks :)
and yes halo- library one of the most difficult levels ever in anything@!

i'm thinking of getting ghost recon, it sounds like the goods. i cant remember the library being that bad, but i didnt play it on hard. how ghey are the flood, just scary and lifeless :(

i reckon the flood are freaky, they just keep coming.,.,. and the big dudes are cool how you blow limbs off.... dont like the ones with guns tho really....
ghost recon doesnt really have great graphics but its really tense and has some real cool level design.... need a big tv if you wanna see the enemies before ur teammates cap em... i was squinting to see.... i played it on middle difficulty otherwise the game just doesnt last....
I've heard Ghost Recon is much better on a PC, that the interface is really hard to work with on X box and PS2
oh, that sucks then. i was assuming the graphics would be as good as splinter cell, for some silly reason. maybe its a good idea to hire it first..
does anyone know what the xbox version of medal of hono(u)r is like?
Hired this on the weekend, will think i'll definetly have to buy it now,
The thing that i really liked about this game was the lighting effects with the shadows, and how intelligent (or un) the enemys were,
It is pretty hard as well, and you have to sneak around
Someone said it was scary too, I was playing it at 2 in the morning, in the dark with 5.1 sound, and i tell you a jumped a few times!
Anyone else played it in 5.1?
i've got it in 5.0 (no sub) or 4.1 (simulated centre) and both sound really good! :D
have you noticed the sounds behind you are amplified heaps sometimes, then you turn to face them and they're really quiet?
i may have just boosted them a bit too much, i've turned them back down again.
im playing it through again on hard now and its pretty formulaic, you just have to learn a way to do everything, the beauty of the game is that you can control probably about 95% of the action so it happens without any danger to you.
the only problem with that is the way that each level can be done the same again and again.. lends a certain air of predictability to it

yeah i did notice that slightly, some footsteps seemed way to loud, its more those little "tinks" that did it
I also think project gotham is great in 5.1, especially with the rear engine cars, all that power right behind you

it's now been ported to PC... was there really much to change? ;)
Just got it yesterday & i must say OMFG! i'm hooked :)
The extra grunt from your PC really gives this game a facelift in the graphics dept too. I've played it on the xbox & it always seemed a tad jumpy.

Other than a higher resolution and a flucuating framerate, how is it different? :|

Splinter Cell is an absolute killer on PC, fan-fucking-tastic!
My only gripe is that I finished it after playing on and off for about 4 days, and now with no multiplayer, what am I gunna do? Play it again on hard? :/

Hi,
I am stuck in splinter cell. cant remember what level is called... but its where u have to de-activate the sensors outside. i have been everywhere... and cannot find anything. checked all the rooms, tried to climb on the walls over past the window where that chef guy appears... i just set off the alarms all the time.
if anyone can help that would be great.. if no one knows.. i will go checkback to see what they level is called. thanks very much.

You probably just left an unconscious guard somewhere where he can be spotted by another guard. The game will let you keep playing and when you get to a certain section, it scans the previous area and if you've been messy alarms will just go off and you won't know what caused it. If you can't figure it out it's best to restart the whole level from the beginning and be more meticulate in your wetwork. ie. Hide all the bodies.

Splinter cell is hard.
I've yet to really get into the vibe of just creeping around etc. Sure, it's atmospheric as hell - but it ain't really a lot of fun to play, at least not yet.
Was splinter cell "pandora tomorrow" any good?
A copy came with my video card and wondering if it's worth bothering to install or not..
