View Full Version : When are they going to have chicks in beer ads?

lyric

i'm serious...

attention: obvisouly misogyny is my rant for the week

as a female beer drinker i hate that women are not included in beer ads and i think it is excludingsignificant proportion of the market...

take the current tooheys new ad when the guys are playing soccer for beer and the girls join in...now after flashing her tits in a victory run - this chick deserved a beer! instead all the guys stand around, drink beer and snigger about seeing tits...why not have the guys and girls enjoying a beer together after the game?? pathetic...

my biggest gripes are the vb ads - yes women do drink vb. the only depiction of women in the current ad is one torturing her partner by dragging him around shopping then displaying her purchases to her female friends while the boys drink beer around the barby...

as the other thread stated, sure - there will never be truth in advertising but totally alienating a section of the market is just stupid....

john singleton - you're a prick

/end rant

Actually they are congratulating the goalie for purposely letting the goal in so the chick would do the victory dance.

Anyway, I agree, there are plenty of chicks out there who drink beer.

What do you deem to be a significant proportion of the market? As it stands, women are not a significant proportion of the beer drinking market.

That's just the way it is. If it was, we'd probably end up with pink/green/blue beer. ;) Seriously though, it's the same on the flipside with the 'Alcopop' market. Sure, quite a few guys drink it, but the media is aimed towards the female as it's the more dominant purchaser of such product.

that's not beer!

all those ads do is subjectify the female body

and that polar bear one where he finds out which chick is easy

it shouldn't be tolerated...i think it is disgusting in 2003 that women are being depicted like this...

Personally, I think that Bundy advert is sooo lame, same as those 2 Cougar ones. The Tooheys one is somewhat clever. But badabing, most Tooheys New drinkers are in the C/D/E/FG socio-economic demographic, earning between 30 to 50k, they read Ralph and on a Friday night they'll go to their local and drink 8 pots. TVCs like this slot perfectly in to what they like about a female - that she likes sport (well at least wouldn't mind watching 25 rounds of league and the V8 SuperTourers) and get that she'll get her tits out at any moment. The fantasy women for many a male.

i hate tooheys new and vb... bleh.

tooheys new is the cheapest, nastiest beer on the market. the reason its so successful? advertising. (and crap advertising at that)

Not necessarily. It might have a lot to do with being a: cheap, and b: easy to pout down your throat in vast quantities at a rate of knots. Every area seems to have at least one dominant beer variety that serves this purpose, and it's often a pretty "traditional" preference. Still advertising can have a bit to do with which swill is preffered I guess...

studies have been done into people's taste preference on beers and it's been found that less than 5% of people can actually differentiate beers brands based on taste (within each flavor, eg bitter, larger, etc).

its all image.

Adelaide has West End
Melbourne has VB (and is the second brand Australia wide) & Melb Bitter, Carlton Draught is well popular nationwide aswell.
Sydney has Tooheys New
Brisbane has XXXX
Perth has Swan

...and Tasmania has Cascade! Now I know why Pants moved down there.

Sydney has Reschs, which you can actually drink without gagging and I'm sure it costs the same.

Every location has a beer which serves this purpose as they are the long standing beers on the market. Domestically made, and available well before beers were imported from interstate, let alone boutique beers imported.

Blue collar workers would never be seen drinking a poofy boutique beer, and because they typically have less money to spend than a white collar worker, they want to get more piss for their buck.

its all image. Is that another case of 78% of statistics are all made up.

Beers have vastly different tastes, if you are a regular drinker I'd be very suprised at your inability to taste the difference.

Corona, Little Creatures, Tooheys New, Carlton Cold, Coopers Sparkling, Heineken, Asahi, Stella, Reschs...... not one of those tastes similar.

NZ is exactly the same, Canterbury Draught and Waikato Draught are the dominant blue-collar beers in the Canterbury and Waikato regions (gotta love those imaginative names, no poofy marketing there!), yet in other parts of the country you'd be hard pressed to buy them at the bottle store. However a couple of regional beers favoured by student populations have started to become popular nationwide after advertiser started to play off that demographic.

that was one of the funny things we found when backpacking around new zeland. every single town/district you go to had a completely different range of beers, and not just boutique bottled beer, proper tap beer in pubs. i found this really strange considering how small NZs population is.

also, whats up with buying beer in the supermarket? how good is that!

ergh. reschs. ew.

in all honesty, there are some nice beers available on tap in different places that are much nicer and don't cost that much more. take hahn premium... 40c extra for a schooner of that rather than some cwap like vb or new or reschs.

Fosters did a fantastic ad in the US where a guy on a date leaves his fosters can on a bar. The gorgeous girl he's with calls out to him, and points at the can. He looks apologetic, then she picks it up and crushes the beer can on her forehead. Genius.

A Miller commercial in the US depicts a group of 20-something girls sitting around a pool drinking beer, talking about how good it is without guys around.

Maybe we should take a few hints from them?

I breifley recall this from about 15 years ago, some brewery made a beer targeted at women, and it failed miseribly, didnt even last a month. I think it was swan, when it was nationwide,??

NZ used to be stricter than Oz with liquor laws, alcohol was only available in liquor stores and was not allowed to be sold or served on Sundays (unless served with food in a pub!). They allowed sale of wine only in supermarkets about 15years ago, then maybe 2 years ago they dropped the sunday trading restrictions and allowed sale of beer in supermarkets. Its still not Japan though, whiskey from vending machines, woohoo!

i think i can differentiate beers to a certain extent, but the thing that pisses me off most is the fact that getting a beer for under $5 these days is almost nonexistent! even when they are on kegs that probably cost them around $1 a beer.. they still charge $6 or 7!

Are you talking about at clubs inna? Cause practically every beer at my work is under $5, except for this german white beer, Hoegarden.
