Just bought it and it looks very, very similar to the Winning Eleven game I had in Japan around 3 years ago. Anyone played it? What are your thoughts?

I'm strictly a fifa man, although Sega Soccer slam is good for some arcade soccer action. However Championship Manager 02/03 has got me addicted so I haven't played much else at the moment.

It's the same game as Winning 11 (Pro Evolution1 was the same game) but under a different name for publication outside Japan. Really PES2 is the same as PES1, its a bit more responsive and slightly easier to play, graphics wise its almost the same.

Still far and away the best soccer game on the market, graphically it isnt amazing and not all the players names are correct and you have to change the team names manually from the ones you are given at the start i.e they didnt get the licences from FIFA....but as far as gameplay and tactics go it requires a shitload more skill than FIFA and is alot more rewarding, especially with free kicks and differnt passing methods etc. Defence is also alot more challenging.

Its the soccer game for soccer fans, if you dont play or watch any soccer buy FIFA, if you use words like 'sublime technique' and 'tactical prowess' when you are watching soccer then buy this game.

Cheers rico. That's pretty comprehensive. I had heard that you couldn't change the team names. Glad that you can.

pro evolution is the same as winning eleven 6. it is easily the best soccer game on the market (tho at times championsip manager 01/02 is addictive).

pro evo 2 rocks :)

pro evo 3 (winning 11 version 32482340923 or whatever they are up to now) will apparently have even better management bits than pro evo 2...

the game itself is without a doubt the best on any platform anywhere as far as simulating a good game of soccer goes.

my only complaint is that sometimes your players act a little dumb and ball watch.. but thats about it..

Agreed.

Easily the best soccer game that I have played so far...Fifa is good but much easier to actually master and hence less playabe long term
