Anyone a fan of this brilliant little UK comedy show?

It has to be one of the funniest tv shows ever!

Ive loved it for aggeess....here are some of my fav quotes :P

"Rimmer: No look, I'm you from the future. I've come to warn you that in 3 million years you'll be dead!"

Rimmer: "What's this? Learning drugs? They're illegal, matey! Where did you get them? I'm afraid you're in very serious, grave, deep trouble, Lister. Where did you get them? I want names, I want places, I want dates."
Lister: "Arnold Rimmer, his locker, this morning."

Lister: I'm gonna have a sheep & a cow and breed horses...
Rimmer: What with a sheep and a cow?
Lister: No with horses and horses.

Lister: Whats it like?
Rimmer: Death? It's like being on holidays with a group of germans.

cat: you can't have my shiney thing! I found it my shiney thing. if you try and take it off me, i'll have to eat you.
rimmer: thats a yo-yo.
cat: it does 2 amazing things. 1, you hold the shiney at the top and the string down below, OR, and this is the clever part, you hold the string at the top, and the shiney thing down here where the string used to be.
cat & rimmer: aaaaeeeaeaeaeaeaeaeaaaaaa!!!!
rimmer: you haven't the slightest clue what its for do you?
cat: of course i do! you hold the shiney thing in one hand and go WOOOOW!! THE STRINGS MOVING!! ITS MOVING!! OOOWHWHOO!! CATCH THAT STRING!! CATCH THAT STRIIING!!!!

yeah.. love it!

Lister: Hope you have a plan up your sleeves Kryten

Kryten: No plan*Holds up arm* No sleeves!

Rimmer: Mr Flibble, what does Arnie do to people who break quarentine?

Mr Flibble: Uncle Arnie fries them with his Hex vision!

Holly:We have three realistic alternatives: (1) Sit here and get blown up, (2) Stand here and get blown up, (3) Jump up and down, shout at me for not being able to think of anything, then get blown up!

Lister to Rimmer:I have a mind to fill your boots with runny porridge again. That'll teach you a lesson about maturity!

Rimmer:We'd better get a job. But what jobs are there in a backwards reality for a dead hologram and an android with a head shaped like a novelty condom?

I told the girlfriend that british comedy was universal!

I have the entire series on VHS.

I dont think its universal, a lot of Americans dont get it for some reason :P

mungo
12-Feb-03, 02:21am
Thats because american comedy is totally different from everyone elses, look at all their "comedy" series that have run into many seasons. They arent really that funny, I cant think of a really funny american comedy.

southpark was funny two seasons ago

just shoot me was funny two seasons ago

simpsons was funny 4 seasons ago

admittedly, they are still sometimes funny now, but its not quite as much :(

Well, being American I'm inclined to agree. "Comedy" television over here is damn near insulting.

red dwarf is fantastic! i watched it religously for ages, up until the end of series six.

(does anyone else remember staying up late friday night and having to put up with elle mcfeast's live and sweaty to wait for it to start?!)

i've met danny john jules (the cat) when he came to plato's records in frankston, of all places. robert llwelyn (kryten) did a book tour / signing that i wanted to go to but had to go to school :(

actually you guys may be able to help me out - the last episode of series six was the one where their future selves threaten to blow up star bug. it's a cliff hanger and at the end you see it blow up - and because i didn't get back into for series seven i don't know what happened! anyone care to fill me in?!

Robert Llewellyn was in Melbourne 8 years ago doing book-signings at the ABC Shop on Elizabeth Street. The queue was too long so I just went up and stood at the back of him to get a good close-up. I was quite thrilled.

Red Dwarf is wicked I've been a fan for years but haven't sen it for a long time. While I love British comedy (Coupling is great...how good is the blonde girl going out with the nerdy guy)...nothing beats Seinfeld

how freaky does he look without the make up / costume on?! i think maybe it's because i'm just used to seeing him with all that stuff on but i wasn't expecting him to look like he did... i just had different preconceptions i guess

I'm a big fan of English comedy. Coupling is great, and I just got the DVD of the 1st series of The Office - funny stuff. Also hilarious is People Like Us & of course Father Ted!

As for US comedy, you can't go past the twisted humour of Mr. Show!

most funny american comedies are cartoons.

simpsons
southpark
family guy
futurama

other than that you have seinfeld and malcolm in the middle

big train & the fast show are also great.

Red Dwarf does indeed rule..

The books rule aswell.

Incase some people are unaware, Red Dwarf has finally been released on DVD. Season 1 is available from abc/dvd stores already. Series 2 is due in this month some time(from memory), series 3 in november this year. It's a crock of shit they are taking their time releasing them, but they are the original versions and not the remastered with the not so in touch computer rendered cut scenes. And some of the dvd extras are gold!

So give it another 2 years and all of it will finally be on dvd. And then my life will be complete.

Doug Naylor and Rob Grant have also written another book called Colony which is in the vein of RD.. Been meaning to get it.. will do eventually..

Well Seinfeld is brilliant its my favourite all time comedy. South Park and Simpsons are good too.

But Americans dont seem to 'get' a lot of overseas comedies.

Red Dwarf was funny but it went downhill big time when Chris Barrie (Rimmer) left and they replaced him with that unfunny cow Kochanski. Red Dwarf - Arnold Rimmer = not funny.

Cat: All in all, 100% successful trip!
Kryten: But sir, we lost Mr Rimmer!
Cat: All in all, 100% successful trip!

Toaster: Howdy doodly do! How's it going? I'm Talkie, Talkie Toaster, your chirpy breakfast companion. Talkie's the name, toasting's the game. Anyone like any toast?
Lister: Look, I don't want any toast, and he doesn't want any toast. In fact, no one around here wants any toast. Not now, not ever. No toast!
Toaster: How 'bout a muffin?
Lister: Or muffins! Or muffins! We don't like muffins around here! We want no muffins, no toast, no teacakes, no buns, baps, baguettes or bagels, no croissants, no crumpets, no pancakes, no potato cakes and no hot-cross buns and definitely no smegging flapjacks!
Toaster: Ahhhhhh, so you're a waffle man!

Oh I love Red Dwarf.
Not many of my friends watch it so good to hear that others do
though i was a bit freaky.

Does anyone know what series the Alien episode is?

I saw it ages ago and there is an alien on the ship and the dominant personality of the characters take over them.

If you are after Red Dwarf Stuff, have a look at Galaxy at 143 York street.
They have heaps of stuff.

Yeah I've heard this as well. And apparentley they are going to possibly make another series. But while the first few series's were brilliant the last one or two weren't that good at all. Especially when the lost Rimmer, Remember the Rimmer Munchin song hahaha
"If you're in trouble he will save the day
bold and fearless come what may
without him the mission would go astray
He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer
without him life would be much grimmer"

What about Everybody Loves Raymond?

Something really unexpected happened on it the other night, Ray did something stupid and his wife got mad at him! Hilarious! Then later on, Ray's father ate food and complained about his wife!

It's non-stop hijinks with the Barone family!

endsarcasm.

I could never really get "into" Red Dwarf although I always laughed at it. Such gratuitous use of the word "git", it was basically impossible not to laugh.

Without a doubt , my favourite episode would have to be the one where Kryton overhears Kochanski saying it is the wrong time of the month while looking at her Calender .

He then gives her a new Calender to replace the one that is wrong .

The best bit is how Lister organises for Kryton to be waiting in Kochanskis room for a special surprise , where he jumps out brandishing a Tampon , and asks her if she wishes to "Try it on and give it a whirl" .

Fucken absolute Classic .

I absolutely LOVE Red Dwarf, I've seen every episode (even the crap ones from series 8), and I've read the books.

Rumour Mill: The movie will start production later this year and it's being filmed either in Melbourne or on the Gold Coast. I got this info from a friend who's in the industry, but it may not be correct...

Ahh Holly was my favourite character...

Red Dwarf - absolute gold

Cat: I say lets get into the jet-powered rocket pants and Junior Birdman the hell out of here.
Kryten: An excellent and inventive suggestion, sir, with just two tiny drawbacks. A: We don't have any jet-powered rocket pants. And B: There's no such thing as jet-powered rocket pants outside the fictional serial 'Robbie Rocket Pants'.
Cat: Well, that's put a crimp on an otherwise damn fine plan.
