i don't play with toys, twoup. i leave that to love nation and mobile home.

;-)

just kidding. it's just that both of those venues (macquarie and bondi) have very restrictive noise issues - no matter what pa they use they will have sub-bass and volume problems - and blm (macquarie) and norwest (bondi) will have to put up with the boring fact that the monitoring guy always tells you to turn it down, and never says 'why don't you turn it UP!'

hey ben,

have you heard anything on the recent noise restrictions at wharf 8. apparently there are restrictions on "amplified noise" after 2am which basically rules the venue out for dance events. shame, cause i reckon it's a brilliant venue.

sounds like tripe to me or is it sydney ports being wankers again?

Ben, I can't wait to play on your Welcome 2001sound system. I love playing tunes loud. Also that progressive / Digweed music is best heard out real loud. You have got to hear every little nuance in Digweed music. The man is the best mixer of all time.

Yes Wharf 8 has restrictions from hell. I have spoken to the venue manager on numerous occasions and only in the big storage room is the music allowed to reach even a decent level. Parties have to shut by 5am and a list of other things need to be abided by. Thus i am NOT using it. Shame really because it is an awesome space.

yeah - wharf 8 has problems - especially late because the temperature inversion layer bounces sound like an over the horizon radar - up to 15km - 30km away. It causes complaints in Balmain etc.

the best sound at wharf 8 was when DMC put the EV X-Array in (that I'd used at both Gatecrashers / paul van dyk / transmission 4th birthday). The only problem there was that it's a bit of a trance rig, and not really a house rig - they have different sub bass and mid range requirements, in my humble opinion.

For the techno nerds, Welcome will be EAW KH (upper mid / tops) & BH (bass / lower mid) 853 with custom sub bass systems. This rig has only ever been here a few times before (boiler room / chemical brothers@hordern / prodigy@selinas). In fill & delay systems will be EAW KF850's. QSC Powerlight drive with XTA processing. Custom 3 way active DJ monitors. No, it's not from a local company.

anyone who wants more info please feel free to send me a note at the above email.

Hello ben,

As a dj I agree with your 'humble' opinion. House setups to me can afford to be bassier because the music itself is generally slower, and the delay is nowhere near as noticable. Faster, i.e. 140-145 plus bpm, the extra bass gets to the point where it's pulsating like three beats behind. Well, that's what we found when we had frantic at base, hard house/trance on that system just didn't work.

In saying that, the slower 130-135bpm stuff that gets played there doesn't experience the same problems.

Mids and highs on a trance orientated system surely must be a higher priority because of the greater use of synths in trance?

Just guessing now...

Feel free to grace me with your knowledge.

As for wharf 8, I've worked on all bar one of the house solutions, and all have finished early because of noise complaints. Staging any events other than ones with the 'in' crowd would also be a problem, as managment is very picky about who and what comes in the doors.

In saying that, after the optus xmas party, I'm suprised they let anyone use it. They nearly trashed the joint. I've seen pubs in redfern with better behaved people.
