I will be there from May 2004, hopefully for the full summer season.

Has anyone got any expereince they can share re getting work over there?

As far as i am aware we don't have a working visa relationship with Greece. Notwithstanding - i was there years ago and there seemed to be a few aussies working on the sly (bars etc).

cheers
:)

talk about jealous. i really need to get off my bum and travel!!

My friend is working somewhere around there at the moment he has been there for a while, just working in a restaurant and i think gets paid pretty shitty because it is on the sly to work there, but i think with the lifestyle who really cares as long as your getting enough to stay there i would be happy.

I think he pretty much just asked around and was a bit persistant and i suppose lucky, he reackons it was pretty easy for him to get work. Luckyboy.

good for you sam.

Don't forget that those aussies that were working there could have EU passports as well as Australian, ie English, Greek, Italian, German etc which allows you to work there. Can you qualify for an English or other EU passport?

I was there this year in August.......beautiful spot. Which islands are you thinking cyclades (ie mykonos, ios, santorini etc). Make sure you check out the ionian islands as well......they are beautiful Kefalonia, Leykada, Corfu, zakinthos etc.

You will be fine if you go in May.......tourist season doesn't really start cranking until end of June. That will give you time to find work.

Tarz – I’ve heard the pay is rubbish if you are illegal – maybe 30-40 euros for a bar shift. But as long as I’m not spending much of my savings then I’m not worried – I just want to work a season over there. It’s probably a lot harder now they have the euro. Greece used to be so cheap.

Buffed – cheers – unfortunately I’ve not got anyway of getting an EU passport. At least 2 generations born in NZ before me.

I think I’ll start in Mykinos – that’s where I had the most fun when I went about 7 years ago. If no luck there I’ll move around and see what I can get. I’m a bit lucky as my best mate lives and works in Athens and he has a swish pad so I can use that as base for my little excursions. Kephalonia looks the goods too.

Itinerary, so far, is as follows:

December 03 – April 04 – Mammoth Mountain, California (got a job)
May 04 – November 04 – Greece and Eastern Europe
November 04 - ? – Canada, ski resort of some sort.

Awesome

Mind if i ask your age?

I wish i had the gumption to pack it in and do the same.

Have a look at this sam......could be a good job opportunity for a few weeks in Greece and Portugal. They are looking for casuals for the Olympics and Euro 2004(soccer)

I'm 26.

This trip has been in the pipeline pretty much from the time i came back from Greece (when i was 19). It's only now i've got the wherewithall to do it.

I'm also at juncture carrer wise where i need to decide whether i'm going to continue with what i'm doing or try something else. I think i'm inclinded to do something else. Either way it's probably the perfect time to do something like this.

Thanks for the website - would be awesome to get a gig for either event - hmmm... Portugal sounds very tasty.

I can't wait to listen to all these djs in the space of 10 or whatever days. Who knows might end up getting stuck and working or something. mmmmmmm clear blue water, beautiful tanned girls... brings a smile to my face thinking about it.

I'll probably have a go at Mykinos first up - different side of the Aegean to Kos - but if not there i will go somewhere else. Never been to Kos, so may give it a go.

Buffed - i will reserve some time for Ibiza after your little writeup

Just be careful you dont do anything silly like handover your passport for "safekeeping".

I know some folks that were forced to work for shit wages because resort owners took their passports.

The Pink Palace at Corfu has a colourful history, how much of it is true I'm not sure, but from the time I spent there I know the staff pull a lot of roots.

The UK doesn't have schoolies.. but I had my holdiay after finishing College/School (Yr13) in Crete. Actually turned 18 out there and was there for 2 wks. I became ace mates with the owner of the villa and the local restuarant. I flew back a week after getting back home and worked in the bar for just over a month... was absolutely amazing. That was 2001. That summer was just THE nicest.. getting ready for Uni and partying hard...Mmmmm.

Enjoy yourself! Greece is the place to work.. warmth, laid back and stunning views. :)
