I love Bali! Might be going back there with my bf next year.
Went in 2000 and had the best time. I'd suggest going to as many places as possible. I regret not doing enough when i went (schoolies- nuf said!)
Ubud is beautiful- must visit the Monkey Forest there!!
Get yourself to Tanah Lot as well.
Have fun. :D I'm jealous.
go and have seafood on the beach at Jimbaran Bay, you know when you have been somewhere and you can picture it so clearly in you mind thinking back, the weather, the taste all those little things, well i dont usually remember things very clearly but i can remember doing that!
I recommend.
Im jealous too.

if your into surfing go to Uluwatu... best place to surf in bali/world!! Or if you cant or dont surf - go there anyway and check out, its on a cliff and you over look the water, lotsa locals and warungs to hangout in!! MAD!!!
Plus there is a temple there too, Must check it out at sunset!!
Oh Oh and you;ve just got to go to Jimbarran Bay and eat seafood at sunset as well.. Really NICE fish and cheap lobster...
Just hook yourself up with a guy that says 'transport' and they will take you to the 'best' restaurant!! (probably the one that they get paid $5 to take customers to/or their uncle owns it...)
I wanna go - i loooove bali, been there about 10 times!!
HAVE FUN...
yes definitely go to Jimbaran Bay especially if you love seafood... The tables are set up on the beach, its so beautiful and cheap :)
Bagus Sekali Beran :)
Def. check out Ubud, very high on Balinese culture…and then go on to the Volcano, Gunung Agung I think it’s called. Theres a great little restaurant up there too.
And if you gonna do the whole bar/club thing on Jalan Legian, after you’ve been and checked out the main, dodgy ones, find the little reggae bar, not far from the Bounty. Its called the Rose and something, really cool people, none of the tourist hype
Have fun mate

yeh, ubud is the goods. the last time i went i spent most of my time there.
its up in the mountains and even while there are some absolutely beautiful places to stay it isn't as much of a tourist sinkhole like nusa dua.
if you're keen for some monkey temple action there is one at the end of, what i guess you could call, the main street in ubud.
i'm sure you probably have your accomodation worked out etc. but if i was going back again (which knowing me, shouldn't take too long) i'd spend all my time in ubud and try and find a bus trip which will take you to tanah lot and jimbaran bay.
so yeh, ubud. and more ubud. cheap food, lots of stuff to see, no pressure to really do anything as you can really enjoy yourself there just walking around for days at a time, and monkeys taking over temples and attacking girlfriends. ubud.

Was there for 3 weeks in 2001. We stayed in homestays so we were able to cover a lot of ground.
Two things that I remember as being awesome (although maybe not all that cultural) were:
- Nusa Lembongan. If you've got time, spend a couple of days away from mainland Bali and its bars and shops and hang out with people who talk like Keanu Reeves in "Point Break".
- day trip up north. We hired a car to drive us over the mountains up to the black beaches on the northen coast. Amazing scenery.
Grab the Lonely Planet guide for Bali, it's full of off-the-beaten-track cultural stuff.
Ubad Markets r unreal, We also went Elephant riding in some sort of National Park or something, there is a place u stop at on the way to Ubad market and they make all the Gold Jewelery there and u can buy it etc, also at the Monkey park there is a Temple that you are able to go into and visit etc. Make sure u get some of the Massages on the beach (sooo good!!) Im goin back in Jan for a week. :)

I went in 1999 and had a ball.
Like everyone else has been saying, Ubud is a must see place. The monkey palace is awsome and the volcano is a site that you cant miss.
There is a resturant at the top of the volcano and the food is really nice.
