This month we have a visitor in sydney who grew up in communist former East Germany. DJ and composer Paul van Dyk.
Ask him about tyranny and oppression. Ask him about life under a cummunist regime, compared to life in united germany.
ask him why there are so many swimming pools closed in Berlin.

We are yet to see a true example of Communism. The west saw to that, brought it down at every turn. But communism is just like capitalism an ideal theory which has never fully applied, there has never been a true lais-fare(sorry if spelling is wrong) economy as there has never been a true Communist state.

Who are you? I read all this stuff on the Melbourne forums that you posted about pvd dedicating albums to you or something? You had a link to some pvd site suggesting we peruse the forum history for proof of all this. I looked at this site and all I could see were people telling you that you are full of crap and I think someone even barred you from the site.

Who was promoting communism?
I thought the statements were that people had a right to protest (this didn't happen behind the iron curtain), and also to seek a more equitable distribution of wealth. Asking for the latter is not communism, that is at it's most extreme. It was more that the little person keeps getting eaten up by the multinational few. Take the resources in poorer third world countries being used for the profit of a few billionaires in first world countries for example (huge mining companies pulling whatever minerals they can out of countries like Bolivia, clothing companies running sweatshops in Indonesia, whatever). This is corporate rape and asking for this to change is NOT asking for a communist regime.
I don't see this as asking us to pick up our hammer and sickle and bash them around for the benefit of the state. I don't believe in communism or socialism, in fact I believe in freedom for a person to earn what they can (capitalism), but for this to be fair a more level playing field is required IMHO.
Anyway if you read through the diferent threads, I think TwoUp's argument contains both pros and cons.

There was some passionate thoughts expressed here yesterday .. is that a bad thing? this site is more than just about the dance music .. it's also about the culture and people who make up that music. It would get rather boring if all we ever discussed was decks, 303s, cubase and delays. lets just celebrate and share how good we have got it and be thankful <b>We Are Alive</b>. Although I am not a hard core activist, you shouldn't mistake me <b>for an Angel</b>, I just believe everyone should be equipped with enough information to make an informed decision.

i do not refer to any debate, i refer to the news article published by TwoUp - which was nothing of the sort. It was a direct reprint of the political propaganda of the organisers of the M1 rally. and then...... two up goes on to try to persuade us of the merits of their argument.

Jason, have you ever stopped to actually consider that "there is NO riddle".
I have read your posts and replies on PVDs site and it seems that the subliminal messaging is heard only by you. As a fellow lover of music and contributor to the ITM forum, I think you should go and have a chat to someone. Seriously, you come across as having only one focus in life (ie PVD or PVD-related issues), and even on a thread like this which was nothing to do with PVD you turn it round to him. If the music is actually about you, then you must deal with it, as it's out there now and there's nothing you can do about it. He is just a person, don't turn him into more than that.
Go talk to a professional who can help you get out of the rut because you really seem far too preoccupied. Please don't take this the wrong way, it's just an innocent observation, and we all have our various issues to deal with.
Note to everybody else, this is not a joke message and I am not trying to take the piss.

The interview part is the most interesting bit of the second CD download. I have most of the other tracks on 'Vorsprung Dyk Technic' (what does Vorsprung translate as?) and 'Out there and back'.
Vorsprung: ledge, projection, promontory, lead, start, avail (Babylon Translator)
To say it with an example: If you´re in a car race 5 seconds in front of your rival, you´ve got a vorsprung of 5 seconds.
But it´s getting really interesting, if you know this:
A former slogan of the german car manufactor "Audi" (I don´t know, if they´re very common in australia) was "Vorsprung durch Technik", which means that they´re leading in competiton by using (advanced) technics.
The trademark of Audi are four circles in a row, which are.....hm....check www.audi.de or www.audi.com.
PvD changed the "durch" (by) into "Dyk" and threw one circle away and so he got this PVD-sign with three circles. I don´t know if they got into trouble with Audi because of this. Might be, because I never saw this PvD sign again on any other record.
I have never heard recordings of PvD speak audible non-subliminal words b4. Only in the middle of an essential mix download "hello! this is paul van dyk, for the essential mix, enjoy". The german accent is what strikes you. I don't know many german people, and i don't know whether it is usual to speak english so well. I am curious to know what language he thinks in.
Check this video interview http://dancemusic.about.com/library/wmc/bl-PaulvanDyk.htm to hear PvD talk in english. It´s without "I don´t play trance music", I promise !! :-)) His english is very good, definetively much better than mine. But that´s not surprising after 8-10 years of international clubbing and producing.

Why do you feel the need to come on to this forum and bombard us with PVD propaganda. I mean really

The thing about subliminals is that you can't hear or see them. They are to fast for the concious mind so go straight to the sub-concious. They are also illegal, otherwise PVD could be telling you, go buy more records, go buy more records, go buy more records, and you'd have some strange urge to purchase records that you could not explain.

musical subliminals are not visual, and they are not illegal.
you have not bothered to read the archive of the PvD website, and you have not bothered to listen to any PvD. So i cannot be bothered talking to you.
If you listen to the track 06 'Out there and back' Tell Me Why (The Riddle)' at 14 seconds, and nine times thereafter (a total of ten times) you will hear the word "Laurie". This is not subliminal, but there are other subliminal phrases on that track.
Please do not bother me again if you are too lazy.

I have never been to the globe before, because i was always a voodoo and cargo member @ sublime on Pitt St, and that is where i always went. But i might come and check it out soon. what sort of crowd is there on a wednesday night?
But wednesday night is difficult for me, because i live in the CIty of Lake Macquarie, population 180,000, 542km^2, 130km's of shoreline, 4 times as much water as sydney harbour, and almost 120 minutes north of sydney. You know all these statistics if you have been a city councillor and Deputy Mayor as i have (the youngest ever).
perhaps this is why PvD was so fascinated with me.
perhaps when he was in australia, he met me then came to Lake Macquarie withou me knowing it, and saw that on the freeway, there were directions to East Lake Macquarie, and West Lake Macquarie, similar to the old divided Berlin.
Our city is divided by the largest salt water lake in australia, but i have swum across it 3.9 km's, in 72minutes and 45 seconds. There were 398 contestants that day, and i came 186th. not bad for my first attempt.
but my next trip to sydney will be on the Weekend of the 13th May, when PvD is returning to Sydney @ Sounds on Sunday @ the greenwood. Some time soon i might find a job in sydney, and return to live there, but i will always like "travelling" :)

Communism is a beautiful theory. Reading Karl Marx you begin to see why many millions of people supported this ideal for nearly 100 years. However in practice it becomes corrupt, restricts a persons freedom, reduces productivity, and consolidates power.
Ok maybe after Lenin grabbed power in 1917, and murded the monarchy communism seemed like it could work and especially during the great depression.
When Stalin come to power though he consolidated his power, murded anyone who opposed him and ruled with an iron fist. His people suffered, starved and died by the millions.
Look at the rest of the old second world(communist nations) there leaders were dictators. China -Mao, Cuba-Castro, North Korea-Kim Il-sung(the great leader). All are tyranical dictators that inhibate their peoples right for freedom.
Elmo, communism will never work. It is too suseptable to be explioted by the few. Many people, such as some extreme M1 an S11 protesters believe capitalism can also be explioted by the few, ie multinational corporations. However in even the most extreme paraniod version of capitalism it is still no where near the centralised power of any communist government.
Communism makes 1% Super rich and powerful, 10% well off, and 89% peseants.
Capitalism makes 5% super rich and powerful, 65% well off, and 30% poor, but not to the same degree.
Which one would you choose?

no, i am being really sincere. I am not asking you to believe that i was abducted by aliens - i better say that again because people are careless at reading sometimes - "I was not abducted by aliens".
All i am saying is that PvD met me in Sydney, and created a character called "Laurie B" which features on his latest album.

there are non-subliminal parts - like track 06 Tell Me Why (The Riddle), where a female voice sings "Laurie" at 14 seconds and then another 9 times thereafter.

and then there are tracks which relate to sex and drugs.
PvD does not know me. He just met me, took my card, and wrote an album about me.
sometimes i do not believe it, and it took me a long time to accept it, but it is there, on the plastic, and the vinyl, forever.
But the important point i make, is that it is a creative artistic work of fiction, and the sex and drug references do not relate to me, but PvD's fictional subliminal and non-subliminal character "Laurie B".

I think we should all drop this thread now. Seriously. I've been to the Paul Van Dyk mail list and it was 'hijacked' in the same way that this thread has been by our fellow forumer jason/laurie. Jason is entitled to believe what he wishes, and if he hears subliminal messages about him in songs then so be it - its his ears, his head. I started with the PvD mailing list last September, and the reaction to my story was initially very similar to some of the postings we have seen here - disbelief - ridicule - suggestions of insanity - all this and more.
But my claims can easily be verified. The non-subliminal references can be heard by anyone, the first time. And the subliminal phrases can be learned, and heard with practice.
But now, people all around the world, are pleased that i gave them a new insight into PvD's work. Some knew nothing about it before, and some knew something was there, yet couldn't understand it all. They have thanked me for filling in the gaps.
But who wants the cover up?? Like elmo said, visual subliminals are illegal, and i said auditory ones are not. People who mis-use the sound subliminals that i have described, do not want their mischeif exposed. Subliminals are used in most clubs around sydney, where ever house/techno/trance is heard.
And the cat is out of the bag.
I know about it, and more and more people know about it.

PvD doesn't know me, and I don't know him. He is just some guy who talked to me a couple of times in Sydney, when i was dancing. i guess he followed me around for a couple of nights, but i didn't notice him. i only remember him because he was a stange guy dressed in black with a german accent. he didn't even tell me who he was.
this isn't a special gift. there are lots of people that can hear them. there are subliminals on other albums, but they are not about me. i won't talk about nik fish and bexta at the moment because it will confuse the issue. Local immitators have followed, perhaps because this is so interesting.
yes i did say who else can hear them - all the DJ's in Sydney, some of the crowd, people i know, people around the world.... the list goes on.
but the important thing to remember, and the way i live with this, is to remember that PvD's character "Laurie B" is a fictional character, who just happens to share my name.

the starjump is only the hands, not the feet, it is more a swimming move, suited to a massive percussive sound after a 2 or 3 beat pause, which i enjoyed about the time luke slater came to sublime pitt st around new years 2000, and i kept it until about june 2000, when i moved onto other moves.
the underground nature of the voodoo backroom on pitt street meant that you could dance how you wanted - thats what is missing @ sublime @ home - it is too open and there are too many people watching. but i don't care - just because sublime on pitt st closed, doesn't mean the people that enjoyed it have to die too.

"Drifting deeply into the visual ebb and flow of the DMT I just walked through the thin fabric of the visual fractal fantasy. It was like a gauze layer of the dream just separated and boom .. it was like walking from a dark night into a brightly lit casino in Las Vegas. There were two people a man and a women or a girl and a boy. They appeared to me like simple balloon computer generated images. As soon as I stepped in the room, they glided up to me and spoke directly to me. They kept saying welcome back and words like: the big winner, he has returned, welcome to the end and the beginning, you are The One! As I looked around the room I felt the sense of some huge celebration upon my entry to this place. Bells were ringing, lights flashing fear began to rise in me as I felt the deep change in my world. The sprites begin to lead me around the room showing me how all my life they had been preparing me for this return. I was shown dozen of experiences simultaneously in my life, that had lead up to and been clues to this moment. I was shown in a flood and a onslaught of images, thoughts, situations, raw feelings that everything had been building to this moment. That this moment had been planned.
They told me it was a gift. That I had been selected to be The One. I felt feelings of huge relief, excitement and fear in the sprites. At this moment in the experience I became afraid for my life. I felt that this gift would cost me my life. I did not want to be The One. The sprits felt this fear in me and begin to hold my hands and arms rushing me deeper into their world. I felt their fear and I begin to believe that I had stepped out of the dream, out of the drug, out of my body and mind and into this super world. I begin to believe in the transformation. As I walked deeper I could see standing in the middle of the room, in the center of this place, an object similar to an hour glass. It was slowly turning over. I became aware that this vessel, as it tipped over, transferring its contents from the small red end to the larger blue end was transforming me. I felt my humanity slip out as I was filled with this new powerful light. A light of greater perception, of clarity. It felt like returning home. It felt familiar. It felt like I was waking up from a hollow, pale dream of reality. I felt god like and omnipotent. I realized the this gift was not only a gift but equally a death sentence for my physical body. I felt like I had been chosen to receive this not out of benevolence but out of a need to release this power and perception There had to be The One, to relieve the others. There had to be The One who perceived completely. I felt like Christ at the moment of realization of godhood and the inevitable moment of his crucifixion. I also felt like all this knowledge and perception was far too large to be processed by my physical mind and that death was the obvious transition.
As this moment of realization hit me I felt the sprites smile and step back. They told me I WAS The One and this WAS real and that it would never end.
They said do you not believe..... then see.
At this moment I sat up (in the real world) and opened my eyes. This moment true panic set in. I was deeply hallucinating. The real world was being covered, transformed into a psychedelic kaleidoscope of energy. Every surface had something like movie film, one image after another lined up like film shown through an overhead projector. These were the prime images of our symbolic nature. Slowly rolling over every surface. like the sprites of the objects. I felt I was seeing time in a singularity. I felt like I was seeing the symbolic patters like a second perception of true meaning. In the real room there were two people sitting next to me. When I looked at them I felt reassured momentarily. Then they exploded into dozens of two dimensional layers of light. Looking like computer generated futurists paintings. Wafer thin halos created the shapes of my friends. Dave looked up at me and said Welcome Back causing me to panic. Because when he said welcome back I did not think it was back to reality but back into the fold of this super world I was in. Back as there chosen one or at least one amongst them. I perceived Dave and Poon as personal guides or Guardians or gatekeepers there to welcome me into this new exalted state. That moment striped me of my world, my truths leading me to believe that my hallucinations were truth. I once again had the crashing feeling of winning, of being chosen, and being forced to receive this unwanted sentence of total vision. I had this crash as I could see once again the cause and effect of my being there and the price I would have to pay. I was the Bean King and the price of my gift would be perceptual transcendence but physical death.
At this time I felt a collapsing feeling as I gave in to the experience excepting my fate. I remember thinking that the hour glass had turned a little farther and I was pouring out of this life into my new one. I said out loud I am dying. Then I lost the support of my body, my self, my existence and I began to drift.
Dave then touched my leg I remember being drawn back into my body and thinking to hell with this I am not going to die, not yet and I felt the sprites smiling around me looking at me. I felt the fear. I felt the exhilaration of my visions. I was back in the sprites room. Even though this place was vibrant and psychedelic it was within my ability to comprehend. The sprits began there pitch at me being a winner and The One. I felt they were taking me back down the hallway to open those iconic, electric vision and to my death. I then said out loud again I am dying to which Dave responded only three more minutes and you will be all right.
Three more minutes.. Three more minutes was like a life raft that I sailed out of that world. As soon as I was able to believe that in three more minutes I would be normal again and everything began to fade. I felt in control of my body and my life. Slowly I drifted out of the their world, back through the gauzy world of colors and patterns. With a little extra coaxing from my friends I was able to wake up and separate my self from that moment.
I still vibrate from the experience.
I am very grateful to have been with my friends. "
