well it seems Cascade Amber Ale has been voted the worlds best amber larger!

I must admitt i have never had one, but my lips are wet at just the thought. seems they did well with their other seasonal beers, which i also have never had the pleasure of drinking.

But if they taste anything like Cascade Premium, they would get my vote everytime...ahh, Tazmanian, and people wonder why we keep tazzie as part of oz :p

so the question is put, have we become a nation of boutique beer lovers?

dark & malty... oh god its good.

(btw james boag premium > cascade premium ;) )

although the summer blonde was pissweak and boring imo.

I agree with big eddie, summer blond wasnt the same calibur as autum amber, winter warmer and spring fest, they were so much more flavoursome and intricate. But many customers at the pub where I work only liked summer, horses for courses i guess.

Cascade Autumn Amber was the best of the Cascade Seasonal brews. 2nd Cascade Winter Warmer which is a dark beer, but is surprisingly light with almost a chocolaty taste to it. Not really impressed with the other 2. Up here in Qld they retail for $13 per 4pk.

My personal favourite beer is James Squire Pilsener. It is the most full flavoured beer i had ever had the pleasure of passing over my lips. It makes Becks and Stella taste like water, IMO it is better than Boags and Cascade Premium. BEST AUSSIE BEER EVER.

This 'Tazmania' sounds very much like a place i know called Tasmania ....
Hard to pinpoint what seperates them .... perhaps they rest their beers on Tazo's instead of coasters over there :\

On a serious note though ... Cascade is an acquired taste, I duno if it stacks up against some of our other domestic brews though :(

Yeah I prefer Boags to Cascade as well. In fact I don't really like cascade at all.

The WA beers are kewl too. Redback, Little Creatures and Little Creatures Rogers. Little creatures Rogers is only a medium strength beer (%3.8) but is probably my favourite beer at the moment. Fooking expensive mind you. And Coops is on the money all the time I must say.

To answer tt's question, yes Boutique Beers have become increasingly popular during recent years, especially for people who drink at home.

For many people when they go to a pub they like a nice fresh beer poured straight from the tap. In many places you just cant get boutique beers on tap.

If you look at the volumes of beers sold VB is King across Australia with New in 2nd place. Neither of these are boutique beers and they sell in large numbers because they're sold everywhere and they are cheaper than boutique beers as well.

New is in the ascendancy and has taken over as the #1 selling beer in two states and has moved to outright second in 2 others.

Personally I prefer to drink the lighter beers such as New or Carlton Draught purely because I like the refreshing feel and I'm not a fan of strong tasting beers, such as Pilsner or Premium Beers. However on the odd occasion, especially with food like at a BBQ I do like to have a stronger tasting beer or two.

My personal faves of all the Premium Beers are Steinlager and Boags Strongarm.

I think the most underrated Australian Beer is Fosters in Stubbies. Its no worse than VB, Carlton Draught or New or all those other beers that sell by the million case load and yet everyone scoffs at it. People are happy to drink Crown. Yet both Crown and Fosters are brewed at the same time in the same vat using the same recipe. They're virtually identical

its tazmania, as in where Taz the tazmanian devil comes from ...just look at a map aresholes :p

Anyway i recon you should all check out a local hunter vally brew called blue tongue...that is one fine beer, but i belive you can only get it from one pub in newy...so sucks to be you i guess

as a regular tap beer i cant pass carlton draught

boags strongarm isn't a premium beer, it's just 5.2%

getting pissed in the summer in the uni beer garden, cascade pale ale is hard to go past.

for other times, I'm a big fan of boags XXX ale (easy on the fiz, widemouth cans are the business)

Autumn amber on tap is facking amazing.

The cascade first harvest was a very interesting beer too (brewed with green hops from the first day of the harvest)

It's ok, but my vote for best aussie beer goes to:

Grand Ridge's - Gippsland Gold

Following that would be the mountain goat beers (especially the stout)
