SO, I think it's official, growing an epic beard pretty much makes you a demigod in Newtown. Actually lost count of the number of hipsters who complemented it last night, people are so predictable

The Simpson's parody of the Warriors is pretty good.

I'm looking at the jackets, leaning towards getting the Legacy Trench.

Exactly $30 less. Mum bought it for dad and he didnt want it.

Astro-Boy 22-Jul-14 10:32am

Bargain. I've started wearing my Icebreaker GT150 and GT260 again, but with my 6 Foot shirt over the top because I totally ran that stupid race and all of Camberwell needs to know that fact.

<3 the legacy trench, awesome piece of kit, ive owned their Legacy hoody for years and loved it to death.

SpaceMonkey 22-Jul-14 03:30pm

Speaking of merino stuff been rocking the merino thermals I got from Aldi under my overalls this week, fucking awesome for $25 a piece, quality is as good as the Icebreaker ones at 1/3 the price :)
Icebreaker is still unmatchable for the mid/outer layer stuff though, need to get me another 320 pullover, some theiving **** stole mine.

SPOKEYDOKEY 22-Jul-14 03:44pm

This macpac hoodie is the ducks nuts for light merino;

http://www.macpac.com.au/mens/mens-m...ino-hoddy.html

SpaceMonkey 22-Jul-14 03:53pm

I've got a Macpac 280gm pullover, it's aiight but not Icebreaker good.

DuncanM 22-Jul-14 04:10pm

I have a Macpac hoody and an Icebreaker hoody and find them much of a muchness. The Macpac one is probably slightly better because the hood is more close-fitting.

The cheap Merino on Torpedo7 is alright too, if you're after the Aldi style cheap stuff.

dementruck 22-Jul-14 04:17pm

got a goose down north face jacket from david jones last week for $120 bucks. didn't even know it was on sale so i was quite pleased!

SPOKEYDOKEY 22-Jul-14 04:27pm

I picked up a superfine beanie at Hobart from Smitten Merino....it's kept my brain from freezing this winter.

http://www.smittenmerino.com/

DuncanM 22-Jul-14 04:29pm

Oh yeah, I rock a part merino part possum fur beanie from Un Zud. You can't have too much merino.

airconteka 22-Jul-14 04:45pm

Best way to pick up over there.

I've got 320 pullover that I found in some guys bag!

WalterBrown 22-Jul-14 04:58pm

I don't know if you guys are going fishing when it's really cold or what you are doing, but i've found that a cheapish golf wet weather jacket, plus my normal Nike Skins underneath (with shorts and singlet) keep me warm (or even hot) even in the coldest and wettest conditions (as long as i'm running)

How are you all getting so cold?

please explain

big eddie 22-Jul-14 05:12pm

It was 4c when I left the house yesterday.

SpaceMonkey 22-Jul-14 05:19pm

It's been 8-9 most mornings here and I'm working outside, so it's worth getting rugged up a bit. I've also been riding the motorbike to work a bit and that gets bloody cold if you're not well covered.
Though the thing with the Icebreaker stuff isn't that it's super warm, more that it's super-comfortable. Cheap polypropylene thermals are as warm as merino but they're scratchy and they smell.

WalterBrown 22-Jul-14 05:34pm

Ah fair enough, i wake up at 11 am and have zero motorbikes,

i understand now haha

Well, we're living relative to where South Morang is to Melbourne. His friend could be moving to the equivalent of Cranbourne or Werribee.

Also I haven't arrived yet still got 2 weeks or so to pack up and move.

Forgot the size, it's a medium. I'm not sure what price is fair, because of the ridiculous shipping cost that took to get it here.

Yeah I really should have gotten the large as well. I've got it on the second last notch and the end of the lever hangs off the end of the belt.

Selling it though because it didn't work out, it actually hindered my deadlifts, gave me massive burning pains in my lower abdomen.

Crossfit games seeks to find the Fittest on Earthâ„¢, says so in the tagline for the games, must be true.

Fittest Man of Earth*

*Lost a foot race to a bunch of women 2 days ago

KingWicked 28-Jul-14 03:11pm

Which is probably why 'fittest' and 'fastest' are different words with different meanings ;)

Thanks for clarifying

My wife had a crack me the other day for saying someone ran like a girl, its not the PC thing to say these days now.

little_brad 28-Jul-14 03:49pm

Hahaha. It was a beastly effort in the end from Froning but the fact that the "Fittest Man on Earth" had to walk a 3 mile run multiple times shows how flawed this ultimate proving ground bullshit is

Despite that, Froning is bloody good at exercising

big eddie 28-Jul-14 03:54pm

They also have drug testing about as comprehensive as Major League Baseball.

little_brad 28-Jul-14 03:57pm

Haha yep, so many are on the juice I reckon

my argument for that though would be that he finished well down the rankings for that WOD, and justifiably so, he risked losing the games with that performance.

What about the drug testing that Crossfit HQ controls?

I've never defended their drug testing policies, but IMO, I dont think its the big issue that everyone makes it out to be. The athletes competing in these games are so far beyond what is achievable by the average person anyway, so i figure if they are at this level, then good luck to them. I'm probably playing devils advocate here, but if these guys are juiced, then lets see how far a human body can be pushed with the aid of anabolics, its not my ballsack thats shrinking so i really dont care if these guys are putting themselves at risk for my entertainment, its still fascinating to see a guy OHS 170kg and then run a 5km race a few days later.

little_brad 28-Jul-14 04:42pm

Oh don't get me wrong I love the games and the performances are ridiculous

I'm just arguing against this being a test of the fittest on earth

I thought all the events this year were great

big eddie 28-Jul-14 04:52pm

Serious question: Is there any crossfit athlete who is the best/current champ (or top 10) in any of athletic pursuits within crossfit (or loosely related, triathlon etc)?

Go back to the juice years in Olympic lifting and you have a 90kg record of a 422.5 kg total Snatch + Clean & Jerk, so they've got a little bit further to go.

Lauren fisher competes with the junior USA Olympic lifting team, Tommy Hackenbruck is ex Football...there are a few gymnasts in there as well I think.

ah god i'm over bar work,

is office work fun ? like do you people joke around a bit? I am doing a postgrad now so cutting back my hours from 40+ to 20-25, thinking maybe a part time office role, but if it is depressing and really simple i will hate it, like, I enjoy being under pressure and achieving things,

i dunno if anyone has any suggestions for a challenging role for someone with "ok" qualifications, but no real life experience

cheers

SpaceMonkey 31-Jul-14 06:30am

Entry level office work is tedious and soul destroying, you might get some pressure but it will be pressure to chew through tedious spreadsheets or deal with **** clients or shit**** team leaders. It won't get rewarding until you spend a couple of years at shit-kicker level and get promoted, sorry champ.
Oh and since you're pushing 30 you'll probably be managed by snotty little graduates younger than you are. My advice is to try and use your existing qualifications and experience to get a relevant private sector job or get I to the security industry like you were planning at one point and work your way up, because honestly I don't see entry level office work suiting you.

walter, i reckon you should take the plunge and do some office work that is hopefully even loosely related to your degree. even if you're an admin shitkicker, you have to start somewhere, and it's a lot easier to do crappy work while you're young. put in a few years, get some experience, and your options will open up. everyone's done dumb shit when they were young, but there's no reason why it needs to hold you back from a career.

First off KW, I don't know why you think i'm so pathetic, I'm fitter than you, smarter than you, better looking, plus I've got a degree, so suck my balls ;)

Secondly, sounds like a good idea, I might hit up a few private sector security firms and see if they need someone to buy them coffees / be a general shit kicker, I know it probably sounds medial to you guys, but I think the change should hopefully offset some of the tedium. Plus on those typing tests I always get around 70wpm with no errors, so I guess that will be useful to someone !

I'm doing my post-grad at the moment also (in OHS) anyway, so I still have "some sort" of plan for the future, just a shame I got a degree in something so specific I guess,

Also @ Derp, I actually fly out tomorrow for Accreditation / Orientation, then I'm back in P-town for a couple of weeks, then in Sept I will get the final confirmation (or rejection, if it's due to DUI I will kill someone) then I will move over there definetly as I won't have any more money to keep flying back and forth anyway !

But thanks everyone, I know I come across as a massive chauvanistic douche, but I swear I've been good these last 2 years!

I happened across some of the heats on foxtel the other day (when that Aussie woman was in the mix). They were literally walking parts of the 400m run after muscle ups...It made a bit of a joke of the exercise to be honest.
