2 noob packages. Worth it or not??
Hi all

I'm looking at getting into mixing and have decided to go down the cd path. I dont have a huge amount of money to spend and am reluctant to spend too much in case I decide that mixing isn't for me.

I have come across two deals which seem fairly basic and am interested in your feedback as to whether they are decent packages and the pros and cons of each

1. 2x denon dns1000's with a behringer vmx100 mixer for $1000
2. 2x Pioneer cdj 200's with a behringer djx700 mixer - $1490

I am pretty much just looking to mix trance/progressive. Not interested in scratching or anything.

lol download a trial version of PCDJ, play on that for a while and then if you like mixing, play on some friends gear or hire some over the weekend.

PCDJ?
If you havent already done so, get a trial version for either Traktor or Virtual DJ (it has a nice visual aspect to DJing).

If you dont have a computer, get the cdj 200s and find another mixer. dont get behringer.

ditch the behringer and pickup a numark DXM06

other than that... the DNS1000's are okay, they do everything right, but i prefer the pioneer CDJ 200's.

depends what you can/want to afford.

PCDJ red is the most basic mixing program. Its great for learning to beatmix.

From what I remember, it was above the pitch slider.

I just looked at a few screen shots, looks like the latest releases have eqs...

my tips- wouldnt buy a behringer mixer & wouldnt buy a CD player that isnt pioneer.

get a pair of CDJ-400's & a numark DXM06, easy to sell off when your done with em, best value, cant go wrong.

Why is that?

Denon have a proud heritage in CD player technology:

- World's first professional CD player (1981)
- World's first consumer CD player (1982)
- Industry standard twin-deck DJ CD player (1993)

There's nothing wrong with Denon gear, just the hype for Pioneer - like electro house - reigns supreme right now.

hehehe....

But really, Pioneer just seems to feel alot better off the fingers.
the jog wheel feels more touchy and light, and reacts faster.
plus, the cdj-100 was (and still is I am sure) the only cd player made with a car audio lazer that can withstand a serious amount of knocking about and still continue to play without a flaw.
Have you checked out Marsh Media recently?

Disagree totally, the denon higher end platters (have no experience below the 3500s) feel much better. But i guess i'm a denon fanboy

best thing i can say is bite the bullet, and get better stuff otherwise its a waste of money. If u like it heaps u might want to go and upgrade. If u buy good stuff and find after a few months its not ur thing, u can sell it without loosing all too much money (as long as u look after the gear)

It seems like a good deal. I mean the cheapest I reckon I could get it for new would be $2400ish. They seem to be pretty mint. I figured by buying these I probably wouldn't need to upgrade for a looooong time, if at all, since these are the "industry standard decks".

For the same money I could have bought 2 cdj 400's with a dxm06 mix but for the money I figured I may as well go one up.

anyone i know that has ever had to use one has complained about it. apparently they operate differently to the industry standard, dont assume i was implying that denon are of poor quality, & i never said there was anything wrong with them & they may be of better build quality than pioneer, i would just never buy one or want to use one at a gig because they are so different to the industry standard.

800's are more like "one sideways" than up sorta....

"Industry standard"? Others will say that's the 1000's, others will rant at you for beleiving the same thing about Pioneer as people believe about iPods re. mp3 players...it's moot anywho..

in the old days Forum users used to use green text for sarcasm so it was more obvious...ie Yeah you got ripped, I'll take em off ya hands for $100 less than you paid just to help you out-do yourself a favour and get some American Audio gear instead

Well... it is pretty uncommon to see CD decks that aren't pioneer now. That said I've been to gigs at pubs/clubs/warehouses and seen everything from American Audio to Denon to Pioneer and Technics up on the stands. The last year though it's mostly just been pioneer.

It's not hard to learn how to use one deck after you've used another, so don't be too worried about the brand - just think:
'does it do what i want?'
'does it feel sturdy/will it survive?'

Both these questions led me to a pair of SL1210s
