EV SX300's
gday lads, i got hold of 3 x EV SX300 speakers.. just recently bought a set of pioneer cdj400's and a djm400. What would be an appropriate amp to run these speakers with of my decks? and should i also get a sub? or should i sell the lot and get something totally different ? cheers

what did you do, walk into the shop blindfolded and buy 3 of the first thing you bumped into?

Used to have them at highschool... not bad little speakers, but we never used them for pumping out electronic music, or anything much with sub for that matter - more as vocal PAs.

You'll need an amp that can throw out 2x300W @ 8ohm to get two of 'em going.

What are you using them for?

Nice speakers to be given!

If you want to get subs from them then you'll need a sub...

In terms of the amp thing, it all depends what brand you go for and whether you buy second hand or not. No 12-15" PA speaker is going to give you much sub - that is always the case.
If you're prepared to buy old, second-hand gear this or this should do the job OK (admittedly, the 400x400 @ 4ohm is slightly less power than ample).

If there aint enough sub in that setup, you're gonna have to spend a fair bit more to pull some decent subs (my vote would probably be for a 1x18 summed to mono or a 15"er for each side).

Just get a 2 channel amp and a powered sub.
And while your at it, get an EV AC1 Crossover, its got EQ tweeks in the right places to get the SX300's sounding pretty good - they can get pretty nasty in the high-mids.

My guess is that you wants the third as a monitor - Yes?
It would maybe then make sense to get 2 x2channel amps, but a 4 channel amp? People actually sell those?

But remember that the power required for a decent sub will be a lot more than the power for the top boxes.

No - I mean that there's no such thing in Pro Audio (for the most part - if you got old theatre amps there might be quad amps there) - You buy monoblocks or stereo amps.

Ideally you wouldn't run the sub and third on the same amp as the pull will be quite different on the two sides of the amp. If it was a true dual-monoblock design this wouldn't be problematic, but that amp would be expensive.

Or find an Australian Monitor AM1200 if you can - http://www.jesther.com/dungeon/pdf/AM1200.PDF

Also, Crown, Lab Gruppen and QSC do 4 channel power amps as well, they're becoming more common as amp technology gets better.

a cheap option is a new PROEL 4ch amp, i'm not sure where you get them from but a client of mine just got one for $1300 brand new, It's 1500w per ch into 4 channels, you could runa sub off 1ch and a sx off the other 3. It also had built in crossover switching, and i actully think it sounded good, It wont compeate with my Crowns or Lab's but it was definatly perfect for what he's mobile setup and buy the sounds of it yours. As for as subs go try to get one cabinet, if you can transport it go for a twin 18" cabinet or if not a single 18" will do! You don't want to seperate the subs, keep them in one corner of the room (corner is prefered)..

It was a PROEL HPD3000 and it was 740w x 4ch and it was only 12kg, the australian distributor is National Audio Systems 03 9761 5577, call them they could put you onto a local dealer.
The PROEL stuff is cost effective, Personaly i wouldn't sell it to a client but we also refuse to sell JBL, RCF, NEXO and all the other crap people seem to like!
I also found a twin 18" sub http://www.proelgroup.com/proel/en/s...11652442746650 on there site which plays 35hz to 250hz which would be perfect under a couple of SX300's and it kicks 100db with 500w input which is nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
