ID3 Tag - Batch Edit?
Hey guys,

Been doing heaps of research lurking the forums here lately (Enough to know that when the time comes for my first gig I should drop acid and pussy out ), figured I'd ask my first question.

Basically, I'm trying new things, and I want to get harmonic mixing down, and the key of all my mp3's (Working on moving to FLAC eventually) is stored in the Comments, which works, but for organisation's sake I'd prefer them to be stored in the Key (Or InitialKey as referred to in some apps) field. I know Mixed In Key can do this but I can't really afford to drop that much money on a relatively simple application for which there might be a free alternative, so I'm hoping someone knows of some sort of way to batch edit my library so the information in the comments field is changed to the Key field. Is this possible?

louislogic, just checked it out, free which is great but the UI is terrible and I could only get it to do one song and then it just didn't want to analyse any others.

quantum8, I'm on Windows 7 (Come to think of it maybe that's why the mixshare one didn't function properly?) so that's no good.

Thanks

If it was just the poor UI I'd agree, but the fact it actually doesn't work kinda makes that analogy redundant doesn't it?

I do appreciate your help though, don't get me wrong. I'm looking for something to batch edit tags rather than reanalyse the keys. Although if push comes to shove maybe I can bring my collection around to someone else's computer and try it there.

That app has the swap between fields functionality which is perfect for what I want, but doesn't support the Key field (I confirmed this wasn't just my PC/mp3's after some googling). It is, however, exactly the kind of application I am after, if only it was updated to support Key.

Through a bit more googling regarding that app though, I came across a different app with the same functionality which does work with the Key field. As far as I can tell, it is exactly what I'm after. Thank you for your help WhiteMeat!

Re: louislogic: I appreciate what you're saying and the application does load, however its user interface is troublesome, which I would be fine with, except that for whatever reason, operating under Windows 7 it was not analysing tracks properly. I doubt a read of the wiki page would do me any good. It's irrelevant at this point as someone offered an alternative through which I found my answer.

Thanks guys!

All in good time mate. At the moment I'm more sort of branching out a bit, just learning as I go. Still pretty new at the whole thing in general, but I love my music and I'm having a lot of fun with it. No goals set or anything like that but sometime soon when I'm confident enough in my abilities I'll post something up here for critiquing and advice.

It was the aforementioned Mp3tag with the ability to add custom tags. Worked a treat! Thanks for all your help guys.

I haven't come across any free ones, but have heard that Jaikoz gets the job done.

sorry if I'm totally off here..

But what apps have this Key or InitialKey field, so you can sort and browse your mp3 collection with that criteria?

And with that mp3-retag program. Do you add or rename an original column in the Mp3's ID3-tag (shown in winamp f.ex), or is this an invisible field only shown with special apps?

Mostly DJ specific apps like Serato, Traktor, and Virtual DJ.
