I sold it to my mate making a new one soon just going to fix little things up that needed fixing on it i also wired up a switch on it so you can turn all the gear on at once and a power chassis on the back like what you have in computers also has xlr chassis in the back.

I was scrolling through thinking the whirly-birds were for cooling, but you didn't use them

Great looking table, nonetheless.

All that effort and no shelves for records?!?

Expedit from IKEA = $149
Heavy Duty Wheels from Mitre 10 to give it extra height and make it mobile = $100

Putting it together soon...will PWN this for on price alone!

not being able to set up your turntables battle style = irritating.

I don't scratch (much or very well) but I prefer battle.

It just seems to make more sense. You've go greater access to the record, you're less likely to knonk a tone arm, you can be closer to the mixer and you take up less space.

Yes, you have to "reach" a bit further for the pitch, but on some of front set ups in clubs everything is spaced so far apart i find i have to "reach" fairly far just to keep one and on the xfader and on cueing the record.

Maybe because i grew up on hip hop is why i think that.

Speaking of IKEA Expedit's. Could you kindly link me the specific Expedit Bookshelf everyone uses for a DJ Table? I looked on the IKEA site and I found what looks right, but it's more expensive and 149CM tall. While I'm tall I think that's probably a bit too tall.

The 8 cube one, 149cm tall...lay it down sideways and hazzzarh! It's only 79CM tall!

Which is a fraction to low imo...which is why I'm putting it on wheels to bring it up to standard 90cm (or there abouts) bench height...plus I can then wheel it to the spare room when not in use.

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/50103086

Or there's this one, which would be 89cm high, but I wanted the constent record sized shelves (and it's not available at the Richmond store either)

True.

But itís no issue for me - I suppose just up to how your brain programs itself to talk to your hands when youíre first learning to play.

Those wheels you mentioned earlier for $100 seem a tad to expensive, i just bought 5 steel legs from Bunnings for 5 bux each, then bolted on for support and height and works a charm. I guess if you need wheels to move around then fair call its a good idea but i didnt really need them for mine!

Here's some legs from IKEA.

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20074250

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20049538

The second ones look the goods. Would make the 79cm table a metre tall which is much more desirable.

There's tonnes of them at IKEA.

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/search/?qu...&sorting=price

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/45932080 - These would make it 110cm, even better.

do the math...

LXWXH
(normal)
45.3X36X16.2cm

(battle)
36x45.3x16.2cm

.....so 45.3-36=9.3cm difference

Looks nice! I just wanted wheels A) for the industrial look and B) as I do actually want it in the spare room when not being used, easy to wheel out and just plug in the power/mixer to the amp which lives in the lounge powering the TV/DVD player.

My only concern now is that the bits I'm screwing into, like you have with your legs, is hollow...only like 3mm MDF plus sides, but hollow in the middle...concerned about whether it'll handle the weight pressing down on it. Yours seems stable enough??? I was thinking of slapping a 5mm sheet of MDF across the bottom for more strenght, then screw the wheels to that.

FYI, the wheels were a little pricey, but wanted to make sure I've got strong enough ones for the weight. 75KG max loading per wheel, 4 for the corners which have breaks, 2 for the middle sans breaks...plus required screws/washers...was about $100, not bad really...quality hardware rather than more Ikea cheapyness!

Is anyone using this for a DJ Table?

I'm curious as to whether the top shelves will fit records vertically. If not, I'll have to get the regular Expedit everyone else uses.

I wanted to check that one out as it has an extra 10cms on the standard Expedit, which makes it the perfect height, but according to their website, it wasn't available in any stores!

Looks like those top shelves will fit records, and with them not being all the same square shape, one of them would fit your amp unlike the standard ones. That's the only draw back imo...no room for an amp
Pete Gordon - Deep and Low

Slower tempo but still with balls, deephouse, slow-mo, futurehouse, nudeep, indie, nudisco, hints of progressive, whatever the fuck you want to call it, just good shit! Get on it

I checked yesterday and it says it's available in Richmond. I'm going there tonight with a record sleeve. Will report back (if I remember ).

I'm coming home with an Expedit one way or another tonight, providing there's stock.

If that one isn't in stock, the other one will be, they have hundreds of them usually as it's such a popular shelf...when I was there, there were none on Aisle 22, Row 12 (or whatever the site said) as they were all piled up in the middle of the store for easy access

I made a base for my Expedit from 2"x4" that my old man brought home. All I did was plane off the glue, and then hammer it together and sand it level. Then I spray painted it with some cheap black spray paint from Autobarn. Total cost: about $10 (we had all materials already including timber glue and 6 inch nails). Assembled it in a ladder style, with two rungs on each end and two central rungs for further strength/stability/support.

End result:
Music is the best drug.

Can confirm records fit in the this model of Expedit. But only on one row of the shelf.

Just picked mine up today. A lot sturdier than I expected.

This is only partially set up. Got lots of re-arranging to do in my room to make shit fit proper.

Hey Chimby,

Hows the height of it, is it a good mixing height? I am thinking of getting one, and maybe mount some wheels on it aswell...but might bring it up a bit too high.
