Good stuff, I'll have to track one down somewhere at some jewellery store.

No mine's a Frederique Constant...

That Longines one pictured about you can pick up for US$900.

Visiting the parents over the Easter weekend and came across my old Citizen automatic.

I got given this circa '96. As a 14yo male ended up dropping/breaking it at least twice. I'm not sure if it was due to the damage done to it or if it was a problem with the original watch, but I stopped wearing it about '98-'99 due to it not being able to keep decent time. Re-discovering this watch I really like it's simple style and design.

I might look into getting it serviced and getting the damaged case repaired. Can anyone recommend a decent place in Syd to get it looked at?

Joe Santos at Christina Jewellers, 183 Enmore Road, Enmore. He's a wizard and cheap at the same time.

Don't let his terse manner put you off. The Swiss can be strange.

I remember as a kid my 10th birthday and my dad asked me what I wanted for my special day.

I said to him, "I wanna watch".

So that night he let me.

Not quite, mine's the automatic version whereas the Moon Watch is manual wind also it's slightly smaller at 39mm (MW is 41mm) which fits my weedy wrists a bit better

Pretty happy with it, picked it up for less than a third of the cost of a new one yet it looks like it's never been worn.

Does anyone know how much this would be worth? Surely <<$250 which is what I was quoted today to get it repaired (not working, chipped face). I think I might retire it.

I almost grabbed this last week for just over $2k.....before I hit myself over the head and thought about what other things I could spend two grand on right now instead. Will definitely be keeping an eye on it if a big bonus hits and/or I switch jobs with a much bigger pay packet. Awesome watch though, very clean but stylish too.

I like that watch. This thread got my digging to find my almost new Fossil that I haven't worn for almost a year.

Now I am inspired to get a real watch!!!

Is it actually cheaper to buy a watch duty free? Or are watches cheaper O/S, e.g. in the US?

Not sure about every brand, but at least check the O.S. prices to see how much cheaper it is.
As I said, I picked up a bargain (imo) with the nixon I got, almost half price since I bought it from the U.S. instead of Aus.

Overseas is MUCH cheaper than Australia.

As an example, the MSRP of an Omega Speedmaster Professional in the US is US$3450 whereas here it is AU$4950 which equals US$4580. In Europe it's cheapeer still.

I don't know why anyone buys watches in Australia, just not worth it. Ridiculous.

Been offered a 1960's Seamaster 30 for $750 from a shop in Sydney. Watch looks to be in great condition as it is from a shop specialising in repairs etc so it is fully serviced. Manual wind.

Do people think this price is too high? I have seen some on ebay go for around this price, but quite a few going for a couple of hundred bucks less...

Can't make up my mind!

Anyone know any decent online stores to buy nice brands of watches that are reliable?

Got one of these online a couple of months ago. People seem to love the extra large numbers on it. Never had so many randoms compliment a watch before.

Fledz I have the Tsovet SVT FW44, had heaps of comments on that too (though it has no numerals on it)

For my next watch I want a cheapish military-styled watch with canvas strap. At this point I'm tossing up between the Seiko 5 Military or MWC GG-W-113:

Seiko is about $80, MWC about $100. MWC is hand wound, Seiko is automatic... hmm maybe i'll go the Seiko

Picked this up for cheap over the weekend for Subsonic. Always hate not having a watch and don't really want to take my Tissot to a camping festival.

If they hadn't circled it in red pen, I might not have notice it.
